Nowadays, a part from traditional face to face conversation, people can communicate and interact in different ways. Most of them are related to the digital and virtual world. On the Internet, each person has a digital identity which is different from other users. This digital identity has an increasingly important role since both real and digital world are interconnected, that is to say, what happens in one will influence what happens in the other. Students spend an increasing amount of time on the Internet where they communicate mostly with their peers or with people from anywhere in the world. For this reason, this essay aims to reflect on the digital identity that students adopt via Internet. In other words, to know their identity and how it has been created. Moreover, it also focuses attention on their privacy and other possible problems related to their image and digital identity as well as the connection between their identity in the real world and the digital world. To this effect, a quantitative investigation is carried out in several primary and secondary schools where a questionnaire is targeted at students between the age of 11 and 18. After gathering this information, it was discovered that students are increasingly active in the digital world by contributing and providing more contents on the network. However, the survey revealed that students remain largely ignorant of their privacy on the Internet, as they believe that their contents uploaded are safe and access is provided only for those who they want to have access to. In conclusion, it has been proven that the digital identity is related to digital spaces such as Youtube or online games and, even thought there is a connection between digital and real identity for students, trying to make both the same; they take great care of their own image and identity in the real world rather than in the digital world.
