The Relationship Between Perceived Discrimination And Affective Balance On People With Physical Disabilities: The Mediating Role Of Environmental Mastery

Identity Leadership and Work Engagement in Spain: A Cross-Cultural Adaptation of the Identity Leadership Inventory
(Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá, 2020) Laguía González, Ana; Moriano León, Juan Antonio; Molero Alonso, Fernando Jorge; García Ael, Mª Cristina; Dick, Rolf van; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6308-9466
This paper reports the adaptation and validation of the Identity Leadership Inventory (ILI) in a Spanish organizational context. In addition, this study empirically explores the positive relationship between identity leadership and followers’ work engagement as mediated by positive and negative job-related affect. A total of 854 employees from different organizations (53.6% female, 46.4% male; M = 40.7 years, SD = 11.5, 19-74) completed an online questionnaire. Descriptive analyses, as well as confirmatory factor analyses, were conducted. According to our results, the Spanish version of the ILI had adequate psychometric properties. The four dimensions obtained in other countries (i.e., identity prototypicality, identity advancement, identity entrepreneurship, and identity impresarioship) were replicated in our sample. Moreover, we found that only identity entrepreneurship significantly related to followers’ positive and negative affect at work, which in turn, related to reported work engagement. We conclude that the Spanish version of the ILI adequately measures identity leadership in organizations. Future studies can build on this instrument to assess and foster identity leadership among supervisors.

Psychological quality of life in people with physical disability: the effect of internalized stigma, collective action and resilience
(MDPI, 2020-03-10) Silván Ferrero, Mª Del Prado; Recio Saboya, Patricia; Molero Alonso, Fernando Jorge; Nouvilas Palleja, Encarnación
Purpose: The main objective of this study was to examine the role of social identification, collective action and resilience in reducing the negative consequences of internalized stigma on the psychological quality of life of people with physical disability using path analysis. We propose a model with two paths: the first through social identification and collective action and the second via resilience. Method: A total of 288 Spanish people with physical disability aged between 18 and 82 years (46.4% males; mean [SD] of age = 45.1 [12.3] responded to the questionnaire. Data were collected for three months through an online survey. Results: The tested model adequately fit the data. We found that the relationship between internalized stigma and the psychological quality of life of people with physical disability was mediated by resilience. However, neither social identification nor collective action mediated the association between internalized stigma and quality of life among our participants. Conclusions: The results confirmed the negative association between internalized stigma and quality of life in the population with physical disability. The results show that some interactive processes, such as resilience, may contribute to decreasing the negative effects of internalized stigma. In contrast, no effects of identification with the group or collective action intention were found.

Attachment insecurities, life satisfaction, and relationship satisfaction from a dyadic perspective: The role of positive and negative affect
(Wiley, 2017-05-25) Shaver, Phillip R.; Molero Alonso, Fernando Jorge; Fernández Sedano, Iciar; Recio Saboya, Patricia
he purpose of this research is to examine the association between attachment insecurities (anxiety and avoidance) and both subjective well-being (positive affect [PA] and negative affect [NA] and life satisfaction) and relationship satisfaction. There were 174 Spanish heterosexual couples with a mean length of relationship of 13.9 years who participated in the study. The hypotheses were tested according to the actor-partner interdependence model. We proposed a model in which PA and NA could mediate the association between attachment insecurities and life and relationship satisfaction. Results show that (1) actor effects are more frequent than partner effects; (2) anxious attachment tends to be related to NA and avoidant attachment to PA; (3) avoidance is more detrimental than anxiety for relationship satisfaction at individual and dyadic levels, and (4) there are some mediational effects of NA and PA in the association between attachment insecurities and life and relationship satisfaction.

Long-term partners’ relationship satisfaction and their perceptions of each other’s attachment insecurities
(Wiley, 2016-03) Shaver, Phillip R.; Alonso Arbiol, Itziar; Molero Alonso, Fernando Jorge; Fernández Sedano, Iciar; Recio Saboya, Patricia
n this research, we examined actors’ and partners’ perceptions of each other’s attachment insecurities and the associations of these perceptions with relationship satisfaction. A sample of 148 heterosexual couples completed measures of self and partner attachment insecurities and relationship satisfaction. Results indicate that partners agree in their perceptions of their own and each other’s attachment insecurities (anxiety and avoidance). Based on the actor–partner interdependence model (APIM), we also found that both actors’ scores on avoidance and their perceptions of their partner’s degree of avoidanc are associated with lower relationship satisfaction. Finally, we found that the way an actor perceives his or her partner’s avoidance plays a mediational role in the association between partner’s self-reported avoidance and actor’s relationship satisfaction.

Perceived Discrimination and Well-Being in Romanian Immigrants: The Role of Social Support
(Springer, 2014-06-12) Fernández Sedano, Iciar; Silván Ferrero, Mª Del Prado; Molero Alonso, Fernando Jorge; Gaviria Stewart, Elena; García Ael, Mª Cristina
In this study, carried out with Romanian immigrants (N = 202), the aim was to test the extent to which discrimination in the workplace, health and legal contexts is linked to an important aspect of psychological well-being: self-acceptance. The results showed that immigrants had a relatively low level of perceived discrimination and good scores in self-acceptance, except for those who were unemployed. In addition, we examined the role of seeking social support in the relationship between perceived personal discrimination and self-acceptance. The structural equations analysis provided evidence that the postulated models fit the data well. Thus, it was confirmed that the higher the perceived personal discrimination, the lower the self-acceptance. The data also indicated that seeking social support ediates between perceived discrimination and psychological well-being. These findings demonstrate the protective effect of social support for the mental health of immigrants.
