Publicación Desinformación: democracia, plataformas y agentes extranjeros(Los libros de la Catarata, 2020-12-22) Torreblanca Payá, José Ignacio; Torreblanca Payá, José Ignacio; Hobbs, CarlaPublicación Economic insecurity and poverty(Edward Elgar Publishing, 2023) Cantó, Olga; Romaguera de la Cruz, Marina; Silber, Jacques; Elgar, EdwardEconomic insecurity is a relevant dimension of well-being. So far, there are a variety of approaches and methodologies to measure it and empirical results are only available for a limited number of countries. In this chapter we provide an up-to-date review of the literature on the topic discussing the concept and interpreting the main empirical findings, giving some hints about the relationship between economic insecurity and poverty. Publicación Multidimensional poverty and deprivation: Using individual versus household data(Edward Elgar Publishing, 2023-03-11) Espinoza-Delgado, José; Silber, Jacques; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7050-718XMost existing multidimensional poverty indices, like the global MPI, use the household as the unit of identification of the multi-dimensionally poor, meaning that the multidimensional poverty status of the household is equated with the multidimensional poverty status of all its members. Such an approach ignores intra-household inequalities, which are crucial, among other things, for understanding and quantifying child poverty and gender inequality. Consequently, in this chapter, we stress that one cannot be indifferent to how deprivations are distributed among household members and that there are good reasons to think about moving from the household to the individual when analyzing and estimating multidimensional poverty, especially if the goal is to adequately monitor progress towards meeting Target 1.2 and Goal 5 of the SDGs.Publicación Nivel de vida biológico y diversidad socioeconómica en la España central, 1837-1936(Prensas de la Universidad de Zaragoza-SEHA, 2023) García Montero, Héctor; Martínez Carrión, José Miguel; Ramón i Muñoz, Josep MaríaPublicación La política de cooperación española con Mozambique y Angola(Museo de Historia del Movimiento Popular Polaco : Instituto de Estudios Ibéricos e Iberoamericanos de la Universidad de Varsovia, 2012) Muñoz Martínez, César; Martínez Boyé, ÁngelesLa situación actual de África Subsahariana plantea importantes retos y oportunidades de acción para la política exterior española. Publicación Position and Strategy of Constituents in the IFRS 16 Project on Lease with Special Attention to Large Audit Firms' Comment Letters(Springer Nature, 2022) Mellado Bermejo, Lucía; Parte Esteban, LauraThis chapter examines the position and strategy of groups of constituents in IFRS 16 on leases through a content analysis of comment letters submitted in the last consultation period. The chapter also focuses on large audit firms to understand their influence in the final standard because they have been submitting extensive comment letters to the two Exposure Drafts and Discussion Paper in the IASB lease accounting due process. Specific objectives of the chapter include the following: i) to examine the position and the strategy developed by constituents to persuade regulators in the lease standard setting process, looking for measures of quality, lobbying effort or style, among others; ii) to understand the arguments of Big 4 audit firms and their reflection on final standard. Findings show differences in content analysis variables among constituents (groups of participants, US respondents vs non-US respondents, and signatories’ gender), suggesting different positions and strategies to persuade regulators. The study also provides a deeper understanding of the large audit firms’ motivations to be involved in the lease standard setting process and their influence on final decisions. Understanding the role of players in the decision process may help the accounting community to improve the standard setting.Publicación Using Rippin’s Approach to Estimate Multi-Dimensional Poverty in Central America(Taylor & Francis, 2021) Silber, Jacques; Espinoza-Delgado, JoséThe removal of poverty remains one of the most important aims of economic policy in many countries of the world; it continues to be one of the greatest global challenges and is an essential ‘requirement for sustainable development’. In line with the literature, the individual multi-dimensional poverty function must not only identify the poor but also capture the intensity of the multi-dimensional poverty experience. The inclusion of employment as a dimension is based on its instrumental significance as well as on its intrinsic importance. Water and sanitation are also of considerable instrumental and intrinsic importance. The Alkire and Foster (AF) methodology, as the mainstream approach to the measurement of multi-dimensional poverty in the developing world, is insensitive to inequality among the poor. It appears that multi-dimensional poverty among adults is highest in Guatemala and Nicaragua and lowest in Costa Rica.Publicación Wealth inequality in Catalonia, 1400-1800. Sources, data and a case study(Firenze University Press, 2020) García Montero, Héctor; Nigro, GiampieroThis work is part of the research carried out within the EINITE and SMITE projects for the case of Catalonia. In this chapter, firstly, a brief state of the art of research carried out in recent years on the evolution of economic inequality in the pre-industrial world is traced. Subsequently, through the previously existing literature and the study of the empirical evidence compiled for this work, the characteristics of the fiscal sources available for some Catalan localities, i.e. the books of estimes, vàlues or manifests, and the sample of localities studied in the EINITE/SMITE projects are described in detail. The second part of the work focuses on the analysis of a case study, the town of Balaguer.
