Abstract
In this research a biocomposite material has been obtained using Polylactic Acid (PLA) and calcium calcinate (CaCO3) extracted from eggshells in concentrations of 10, 20, 30 and 40% by weight. An epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO) at 5 wt% was tested as plasticizer. CaCO3 microparticles obtained by mechanical crushing were added at different concentrations by single-screw extruder without and with ESBO. The results of the microscopy analysis demonstrated the good coherence of the phases present in each formulation, and the mechanical tests by traction, bending and impact showed that CaCO3 increases the stiffness, bending and tensile modulus of PLA as its content increases, while formulations with ESBO improve the values of bending modulus in relation to the compounds without plasticizer.
