The study examines the evolving role of translation is second language (L2) education. It traces the historical journey and resurgence of translation as an educational tool, highlighting its multifaceted role in enhancing L2 learning, challenging prevalent misconceptions and promoting the development of all four basic language skills. It also explores the rise of Didactic Audiovisual Translation (DAT) in contemporary language education, particularly through the TRADILEX Project. This project integrates technology, audiovisual media and mediation to improve L2 communicative competence. It outlines the developmental stages of TRADILEX, including proposal design, task creation, pre-piloting, piloting, and experimental phases, leading to the creation of a specialized platform. This approach offers a novel framework for incorporating DAT into L2 education. The paper also presents results from the project’s various phases, which included feedback from 120 evaluations in the pre-piloting phase and 60 reports post-improvements, involving 107 participants in the piloting stage and 566 in the main intervention. The findings emphasise the project’s methodological strength and its effectiveness in enhancing participants’ basic language skills.en
