dc.description.abstractThis work examines the relevance of Gloria Anzaldúa’s “New Mestiza Consciousness”, and the in-betweenness in the novel Caramelo, by Sandra Cisneros, in order to explore the most compelling elements in Cisneros’ work, concepts like “hybridity”, “the Cosmic Race”, and the importance of her multiculturalism. The author’s personality traits, sense of humor, and feelings regarding her own self are displayed through the main character of the novel focusing on her perspective, the different narrative voices, and her family’s experiences.en
