dc.description.abstractJuan de Angulo escribió, a instancias de Gastón de Peralta, una detallada relación de las rogativas celebradas en Toledo por la mejoría de la salud del príncipe don Carlos, accidentado en Alcalá de Henares. Acompañan al texto unos dibujos alegóricos, anónimos, en los cuales se representa al heredero dentro de los parámetros culturales de su época: retórica, erasmismo, Humanismo y Contrarreforma. El escritor creó la máscara del príncipe orante, objeto de nuestro estudio, cuyo capital simbólico develamos a través de su análisis iconográfico. El artículo sostiene que esta se ofrece como exemplum contrarreformista con el propósito de legitimar el poder del heredero, presentándolo como modelo virtuoso. La eficacia de la oración principesca —y la de sus súbditos—, le granjea el favor divino, situándolo en posición privilegiada para enfrentar la herejía luterana. Finalmente, delimitando el campo político en que se pone en circulación la obra, se explica cómo la Relación ha de pensarse en relación con los intereses tanto del III marqués de Falces como de la propia ciudad de Toledo.es
dc.description.abstractJuan de Angulo wrote, at the behest of Gastón de Peralta, a detailed relación —account— of the rogation days held in Toledo for the improvement of the health of Prince don Carlos, wounded in Alcalá de Henares. The text is accompanied by anonymous allegorical drawings in which the heir is represented within the cultural parameters of his time: rhetoric, Erasmism, Humanism and Counter- Reformation. The writer created the mask of the praying prince, the object of our study, whose symbolic capital we unveil through its iconographic analysis. Through iconographic analysis, its symbolic capital is revealed. The article maintains that that mask is offered as a Counter-Reformation exemplum with the purpose of legitimizing the power of the heir, presenting him as a virtuous model. The effectiveness of his prayer —and that of his subjects— earned him divine favor, placing him in a privileged position to confront the Lutheran heresy. Finally, delimiting the political field in which the work is put into circulation, it is also explained how the Relación has to be considered in relation to the interests of both the III Marquis of Falces and the city of Toledo itself.en
