dc.description.abstractDuring the 19th century, and especially during Romanticism, the concept of the artist as we understand it today, male and linked to the idea of genius, was developed. This notion of who is an artist will also be supported and validated in European and North American literature through the so-called Künstlerrroman or artist's novel. When it comes to women artists, their presence in literature will increase as the century progresses. This coincides with their conquest of public space and the creation of academies and institutions that allowed them access to official artistic training. As a consequence, many novels and short stories featuring women artists that reflect their demands and challenges will be published during the second half of the century. This thesis aims to analyze through a selection of literary texts written in America in the second half of the 19th century how women artists, especially female painters, have been depicted in literature. This analysis will pay special attention to how changes regarding artistic training and the pursuit of a professional career are reflected in those texts.en
dc.description.abstractDurante el siglo XIX y especialmente durante el Romanticismo, se produce la configuración de la figura del artista (esencialmente masculina) tal como hoy la entendemos y vinculada a la idea de genio. Este concepto del artista tendrá también su desarrollo y validación en la literatura europea y norteamericana a través de la denominada Künstlerrroman o novela de artista. En el caso de las mujeres artistas, su presencia en la literatura aumentará a medida que avance el siglo, coincidiendo con su conquista paulatina del espacio público y la aparición de academias e instituciones que les permitían acceder a una formación artística reglada. De esta manera, sobre todo durante la segunda mitad del siglo, se publicarán numerosas novelas y relatos protagonizados por mujeres artistas que reflejan sus reivindicaciones y retos. El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar a través de una selección de textos literarios escritos en América durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, cómo las mujeres artistas, y más concretamente las pintoras, han sido representadas en la literatura. Este análisis pondrá especial atención en cómo los cambios en el acceso a la formación artística y el desarrollo de su Carrera se reflejan en dichos textos.es
