Modern philosophy has its roots in earlier thought. Charles Taylor draws a personal anthropology around the concept of self. To this end, he investigates the various sources from which modern human interiority derives. The concepts of person, of self, of interiority have their undeniable origin in a Western culture. Taylor traces these sources of the modern self. An attentive reading of his works brings to mind the philosophy of Saint Augustine. This other author is the door that closes the classicism in philosophy and opens a new stage, Christian philosophy. Both authors` anthropology has many points in common that confirm the influence of the African author on the history of philosophy and anthropology. The similarities and differences between these two authors provide a more accurate view of the modern self and its historical sources.
