dc.description.abstractThis study aims at defining the androktasíai or killing lists of the Iliad taking functional and construction grammar as a methodological background. The information structure of warrior deaths catalogues, as well as that of their constituents on an intraclausal level, follows a pattern regularly shifting the focus and the topic to different elements of the battle scene. Those same constructions and patterns also appear in more narrative sections or non-catalogic battle scenes, which include extended descriptions and employ different narratological tools. It can be concluded that all battle death lists in the Iliad follow an identical information structure despite changes in the wording, thus showcasing how Homeric epics introduce variations into a stable scene type.en
