dc.description.abstractIn this document the theory of “Cooperative Principle” by Paul Grice is used as a theoretical basis to analyse the most important dialogues in the play “Top Girls” by Carol Churchill. By doing that, it is found that characters are often not cooperative and break the maxims as a self-defence mechanism to avoid arguments witch each other. Besides, it provides information about their personality and evolution throughout the play. Finally, the violation of the maxims also helps to trigger the plot.en
