dc.description.abstractA pesar del amplio reconocimiento del distrito marmóreo de Almadén de la Plata como un área de gran interés para el conocimiento de la explotación de los mármoles regionales de la Hispania romana, la contextualización arqueológica de las canteras antiguas es una cuestión que ha recibido poca atención hasta la fecha. En este trabajo se pretende reunir y presentar de forma ordenada los datos fundamentales para el conocimiento de los diferentes tipos de ocupación, actividad y movimiento humano en la zona en época romana, con evidencias que abarcan los siglos I a.C. a IV d.C. La inscripción que conserva sobre mármol el nombre de L. Lucano es una referencia obligada, junto a otros datos más propiamente arqueológicos de menor difusión pero claves para la reconstrucción de los patrones de poblamiento y movilidad en el territorio inmediato a las canteras de mármol. El análisis conjunto de las informaciones ahora disponibles permite una primera síntesis arqueológica sobre el contexto humano e infraestructural asociado con el área o lugar cuyo nombre ha sido transmitido por la epigrafía como pagus marmorarius.es
dc.description.abstractDespite the wide recognition of the marble district of Almadén de la Plata as an area of great interest for the knowledge of the exploitation of the regional marbles of Roman Hispania, the archaeological context of the ancient quarries is a question that has received little attention. In this work we aim to gather and present in an orderly way the fundamental data for the knowledge of the different types of human occupation, activity and movement in the area in Roman times, with evidence that spans from the 1st century BC to 4th century AD. The inscription that preserves in marble the name of L. Attius Lucanus is an obligatory reference, together with a body of less well-known archaeological data that is of key importance for the reconstruction of the patterns of population and mobility in the territory surrounding the marble quarries. The joint analysis of the information currently available allows a first archaeological synthesis of the human and infrastructural context associated with the area or place whose name has been transmitted as pagus marmorarius.en
