Resumen
Sabemos, por él mismo, que Hilario de Poitiers, no tuvo conocimiento del credo de Nicea hasta 356. A pesar de esto, desde su primera obra conocida, la adhesión de Hilario de Poitiers a los planteamientos fundamentales que definirán la correcta comprensión de la naturaleza de Cristo resulta incontestable. Esto se debe a que parte, en su reflexión cristológica, de una íntima comprensión del Evangelio de Juan que antepone a la mera defensa del homooúsios niceno. A través de la exégesis de los pasajes y motivos más relevantes del Cuarto Evangelio, Hilario de Poitiers explora la relación entre Padre e Hijo profundizando en su carácter consustancial y en la inhabitación mutua de sus Personas, imprimiendo un carácter pneumatológico a su reflexión cristológica y demostrando un conocimiento profundo de la naturaleza del Cristo que trasciende, con mucho, la mera especulación en torno a su familiaridad con el credo de Nicea y con el homooúsios.
We know from Hilary of Poitiers’ own writings that he had no knowledge of the Nicaean creed until the year 356. However, in spite of this, it is obvious that Hilary of Poitiers adhered to the creed’s fundamental notions that defined correct understanding of the nature of Christ since his earliest writings. This is due to the fact that his Christological thought stems from an intimate understanding of the Gospel of John rather than a mere defense of the Nicene homousios. Through his exegesis of the most significant passages and motifs in the Fourth Gospel, Hilary of Poitiers delves into the relationship between the Father and the Son, analyzing its consubstantial nature and the mutual inhabitation of their Persons, endowing his Christological thought with a Pneumatological character. In doing so, he demonstrates a profound knowledge of the nature of Christ that goes far beyond mere speculation concerning his familiarity with the Nicaean creed and homousios.
