dc.description.abstractThe assessment of the speaking skills of a foreign language is one of the most discussed areas in Applied Linguistics. More specifically, in the field of teaching and learning of English as a Foreign Language (EFL, henceforth), it has been a topic of research for decades. In the eighties, Canale (1984) already pointed out the challenges of assessing language within the so-called Communicative Approach1, that is, language testing had to face new assessment formats in order to allow creative and open-ended language use, as well as new testing and scoring procedures.en
