This article aims to demonstrate that the Franco-Spanish short film Un chien andalou, written and directed by Luis Buñuel in 1929 with the collaboration of Salvador Dalí can be condiered as an avant-garde work, with many characteristics that connect with the Surrealist movement and hence, these apparently disconect it from the artistic sensibility of logic and reason – a challenge for the spectator and the artificiality of the prevailing social values. Overall, This short film could be defined as a puzzle of a surrealist painting, in which new forms of expression are sought, without denying the very notion of the established social order.
