Tuning of PID Controllers Based on Sensitivity Margin Specification
(2004-01-01) Dormido Bencomo, Sebastián; Morilla García, Fernando
This paper presents an alternative method to the one proposed by Åström and Hägglund (1995) for the tuning of PID controllers with specification of sensitivity margin Ms. The method is based on the following steps: 1º) to delimit the range of frequencies in which it is possible to contact with a specific point of a circle of radius Ms -1 centered at -1, 2º) to explore the frequencies where this contact takes place tangentially, because these frequencies will only be possible solutions, and 3º) to choose one of the possible solutions. Some examples have been selected in order to show the main features of the proposed method.

Control systems analysis & design server
(IFAC 2002, 2002-01-01) Fernández, A.; Morilla García, Fernando
This paper describes an implementation of the tool SISTEMAS in order to use as WWW Server for analysis and design of control systems. It can be used via an Intranet or Internet, alone or integrated in the virtual and remote control laboratory. This laboratory is being developed in the Informática y Automática Department of UNED. The tool covers widely the key concepts of Automática I (an annual course of feedback automatic control). It has been used since the academic year 94/95 as support material in the subject and in one of the practical sessions that take place in the laboratories of the Facultad de Ciencias (Sciences Faculty) of UNED. With the new idea of WWW service, the student could be able to use the tool as many times as he needs (to study or to take a practical session) from his house or from his Associated Centre; he will need only an Internet connection. Centralized PID Control by Decoupling for TITO Processes
(2008-10-14) Vázquez, Francisco; Garrido Jurado, Juan; Morilla García, Fernando
This paper presents a new methodology to design multivariable PID controllers for two-input and twooutput systems. The proposed control strategy, which is centralized, combines four PID controllers plus two possible delays and two P controllers. The proportional gains in the P controllers act as tuning parameters in order to modify the behavior of the loops almost independently. The design procedure consists of three steps: first, an ideal decoupler including integral action is determined. Second, the decoupler is approximated with four PID controllers plus two possible delays. Third, the proportional gains are tuned to achieve the specified performance. The proposed method is applied to three representative processes.
