Abstract There has not always been an awareness of the relationship between sexual hormonal concentrations and quality of the singing voice in the Western Classical singing world. Despite evidence for this connection existing since the 3rd century B.C., there are still controversies and lack of information about this area, especially regarding the effects on the female western classical singing voice. The aim of this paper is to shed light on the importance of undertaking further research in this field. Therefore, a revision of previous research, exploring the extent to which sexual hormonal concentrations can contribute to the well-being of a singer’s voice and career, from both psychological and biological points of view, will be presented. Additionally, further investigation in the field of hormonal related medication and its effects on singing voice quality will be undertaken.
