Se abordan dos cuestiones principales: la ayuda de las voluntarias profesionales sanitarias americanas a través del Medical Bureau to Aid Spanish Democracy (MBASD) y el análisis de un caso concreto, el de la enfermera afroamericana Salaria Kea, que ayudó al bando republicano en la Guerra Civil española. Se trata no sólo su labor humanitaria, sino también su compromiso con la causa republicana y las circunstancias que le llevaron a dejar los Estados Unidos para ayudar a la España republicana.This article aims to contribute to the knowledge of the work that international volunteer women carried out during the Spanish Civil War and focuses on highlighting the role of American volunteers. Two main issues are tackled: the help of American health professional volunteers through the Medical Bureau to Aid Spanish Democracy (MBASD); and the analysis of a case study, that of the African-American nurse Salaria Kea, who assisted on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War.
