A la práctica deportiva o entretenimiento se suma su uso como medio de transporte cotidiano, y se incrementa el riesgo de accidentes con ciclistas y el número de víctimas. Aunque su número sigue siendo muy reducido en relación con los accidentes y víctimas totales en España, la proporción entre ellos crece con mayor tasa de incremento en zona urbana, y la mayor severidad se produce en las vías interurbanas. Si la tendencia se mantiene, el diseño y aplicación de las medidas adecuadas para lograr las mejoras necesarias, requiere el estudio del fenómeno y la identificación de sus características más importantes. Este trabajo se centra en la caracterización de la accidentalidad ciclista en España entre 2000 y2020. Se desarrolla un estudio comparativo en el ámbito urbano español y en cuatro ciudades seleccionadas.The sustained increase in the use of bicycles connects with the growing awareness of citizens with health and sustainable mobility. In addition to the practice of sport or entertainment, its use as a means of daily transport is added, increasing the risk of accidents with cyclists and the number of victims. Although their number is still very low in relation to total accidents and victims in Spain, the proportion between them grows with a higher rate of increase in urban areas, and the greatest severity occurs on interurban roads. If the trend continues, the design and application of adequate measures to achieve the necessary improvements requires the study of the phenomenon and the identification of its most important characteristics. This work focuses on the characterization of cycling accidents in Spain between 2000 and 2020.
