La debilidad estructural de los estados sahelianos es identificado como el principal factor facilitador de este nexo que encuentra abrigo, además, en la porosidad de las fronteras y en la corrupción endémica de la región. Con unos niveles muy bajos de desarrollo, una creciente inseguridad y aumento de la violencia, fomentar la seguridad y el desarrollo en el Sahel es necesario para luchar contra estas amenazas y favorecer la estabilidad y sostenibilidad de la región.The Sahel is one of the regions of the world where the nexus between transnational organized crime and jihadist terrorism, which has become one of the main threats to the international security, is most palpable.
