Alonso seeks to explain the historiographical vacuum on the question and offers an alternative framework of interpretation. Moreover, he considers that the Spanish experience has many similarities with the cases of other European fascisms—Italy, Germany, Croatia—both in the perception of the war and its influence in the fascist project and in the way war was waged.
