This research examines the extent to which, in some contexts, Women’s Day can activate sexist attitudes that reinforce structural inequalities between men and women. Based on ambivalent sexism theory, we propose that people are more likely to agree with benevolent sexist attitudes on Women’s Day than on any other day. In Study 1 (N=190) we measured sexist attitudes on Women’s Day and then one month later. We found that participants asked on Women’s Day reported more benevolent sexism than participants asked a month later. Benevolent sexism was stronger on Women’s Day for men (who scored higher for both hostile and benevolent sexism than women). In order to establish causality, in Study 2 (N=175) we used an experimental paradigm in which we made Women’s Day more salient (against the control condition). Results showed that participants assigned to the Women’s Day experimental condition indicated more support for benevolent sexist attitudes than those assigned to the control condition and again (men scored higher on both dimensions of sexism across both conditions). This research provides evidence of the potential unintended effects of International Women’s Day and the challenges that women still face.0302Quiroga Garza, Angélica, Moreno Bella, Eva, Matamoros Lima, Juan A. y Willi, Guillermo B. . Event-related potentials from 40 participants (20 female) was recorded as male and female faces matched or mismatched previous gender-stereotyped statements and were compared with those elicited by faces preceded by gender-unbiased statements. We conducted linear mixed-effects models to account for possible random effects from both participants and the strength of the gender bias. The amplitude of the N170 to faces was larger following stereotyped relative to gender-unbiased statements in both male and female participants, although the effect was larger for males. This result reveals that stereotyping exerts an early effect in face processing and that the impact is higher in men. In later time windows, male faces after female-stereotyped statements elicited large late positivity potential (LPP) responses in both men and women, indicating that the violation of male stereotypes induces a post-perceptual reevaluation of a salient or conflicting event. Besides, the largest LPP amplitude in women was elicited when they encountered a female face after a female-stereotyped statement. The later result is discussed from the perspective of recent claims on the evolution of women self-identification with traditionally held female roles.0282Rodríguez-Gómez, Pablo, Romero-Ferreiro, Verónica, Pozo, Miguel A., Hinojosa, José Antonio y Moreno, Eva M. . A social and historical approach (Resumen)tesisuned:ED-Pg-SocCamSoc-CleoneIn our western culture disability is very often still meaning incompetence and inferiority. A woman with disability is frequently considered double inferior to everyone, being woman and having a disability, and being in the intersection of different kinds of discrimination. During last decades, at social and political level many things have transformed, and society changed even the words used to speak of or about disability, but nevertheless many questions remain unsolved and the fact that disability is either hidden or denied, or misrepresented, or misevaluated is a reality even now. The experiences of disability are missing from the general culture and very often an engendered investigation is lacking. This thesis aims to widen the existing knowledge on what is needed to improve the quality of life of women with disabilities, by analysing the gap between current legislation in Europe and in particular in Italy and the real life of people with disabilities from a gender perspective. Therefore, the objective of this thesis is to contribute to the literature on the well-being and quality of life of women with disabilities, applying an intersectional approach in empirical research and studies on gender inequality. The thesis argues the theory that women's voices would help better identify priorities and choose the most appropriate policies accordingly, as well as help discover the reasons behind the persistent condition of injustice, with the aim of ensuring more equitable and effective services and sustainable well-being for all. After a European historical and legislative overview and an analysis of the main models of disability that have followed over time, the thesis has been developed by analysing the Italian context where, despite the legislative and social progress in recent years, women with disabilities are still subject to discrimination and exclusion compared to other groups. Through a qualitative analysis, the research aims to deepen the real-life situation and the marginalisation even existing in Italy through the voice of women, offering an important perspective and food for thought to fill the gaps.0Doctoral Thesis4432Leone, Cinzia. <a class="citation_title" title="Click para ver : Women with disabilities in Italy. In this research, we propose that perceived economic inequality might affect how people perceive men and women. In two experiments carried out in Spain (N = 170) and Mexico (N = 215), we tested whether high (vs. low) economic inequality leads to changes in the perceived agency and communion of both men and women. Our findings suggest that when economic inequality is high (vs. low), the communal content in social perceptions of both men and women decreases. Specifically, under high (vs. low) inequality, the difference in agency and communion ascribed to a man becomes greater (i.e., men are perceived as even more agentic than communal), whereas this difference becomes smaller for women (i.e., women are still perceived as more communal than agentic, but this difference is smaller). We discuss these findings’ implications regarding the psychosocial effects of economic inequality.0332Moreno Bella, Eva, Willis, Guillermo B., Quiroga-Garza, Angélica, Moya, Miguel y Bangee, Munirah . The current research aims to draw the structure of gender stereotypes and metastereotype schemes as complex systems of stereotypical features. Therefore, we analyze gender stereotypes as networks of interconnected characteristics. Method: Through an online survey (N = 750), participants listed the common female and male features to build the structure of the gender stereotypes. Participants also listed the common features of howmembers of one gender think they are viewed by people of the other gender to build the structure of gender metastereotypes. Results: Our results suggest that female stereotypes are characterized by a single community of features consistently associated such as intelligent, strong, and hardworkers. Female metastereotype, however, combines the previous community with another characterized by weak and sensitive. Focusing on an Anglo-Irish Victorian novel, Edith Somerville and Martin Ross’s The Real Charlotte (1894), and a post-Second-World-War English novel, Barbara Pym’s Excellent Women (1952), this study explores how unmarried women were portrayed in literature and what stereotypes were associated with them. By analysing the novels within their historical and sociocultural contexts, the paper aims to illustrate how societal expectations and gender norms influenced the lives of spinsters. This study follows a feminist approach to literature, exploring the experiences of unmarried women in terms of identity, agency, social acceptance or rejection, and adherence or challenge to traditional notions of womanhood. The analysis of the main characters of The Real Charlotte and Excellent Women, Charlotte Mullen and Mildred Lathbury, identifies common themes in the portrayal of spinsters, such as social isolation, self-reliance, pressure to marry, and subversion of traditional gender roles. This paper also aims to determine whether negative stereotypes of and prejudices against the spinster remained in the mid-twentieth century, at a time where women had achieved more rights and independence than they had had sixty years before. Ultimately, this study aims to contribute to the broader understanding of gender roles, stereotypes, and dynamics in literature, as well as the construction of one’s identity through social conventions and expectations.0Doctoral Thesis1202Novo Raposo, Julia María. For these women, life after the violence is (or continues to be) a “living death.” With this characterization I seek to further the debate on the notion of life as perceived in sociology, bearing in mind that in that discipline life has been assumed as a given, and arguing instead that life should be understood as “making a life.”0232Martínez, María . han jugado en la participación sindical y
Doing research on women’s political and
syndical participation during Francoism (or
in any other historical period) it is essential
to bear in mind the existence of a
particular women’s civic culture, different
from the men’s one due to gender
relations. The idea of a specific female
civic or political culture is established from
the negation: women were deprived of the
use of symbols, motives, attitudes and
values which were reserved by the society
to the dominant class-gender: the men.
The political culture that emerged from
liberal revolutions of the 19th century has
been a key point of reference for the
citizenship as a whole; however, it is clear
that women’s possibility of its
appropriation has been limited. In this way,
women’s political participation has had its
own idiosyncracy, including their genuine
forms of approximation, as well as their
strategies and declared claims.010922Díaz Sánchez, Pilar . genders in meetings of a decision-taking nature.
Furthermore, other aspects are emphasised,
relating to decision quality, to the socalled

The paper emphasizes the «female historical invisibility», many times reported in Gender Historiography, with the ultimate goal of understanding the socio-politic causes that have subjugated women during the period elapsed since the victory of the Frente Popular to the begining of the Spanish Civil War. This paper is, also, to add a small contribution to the significant effort developed by some colleagues on this field of study, and it stresses somo aspects less known and less studied. During the reporting period, women play an important role in trade unions, wich be the causes for the later repression, already in the begining on Franco Period. This study highlights the active participation of left wing an republican women in the election campaing of 1936, and their involvement in social unrest during the spring of 1936. Supporting Frente Popular, Women will play an important role in the capaign, and many of them will made, also, their own «campaign» with specific acts such as travelling around the country, promoting and leading numerous campaign events or developing acts in favour of amnesty. Women topics on campaign were about economics and classical political struggle.06162Seoane Amigo, Paloma . However, this does not necessarily have consequences for their work, as they very rarely make costly adaptations in their working lives. In this study, we propose a definition of a man in care (MIC) as a working father who, in order to meet care needs, has adapted his working life in a way that potentially entails a financial penalty. We analyze the prevalence of men in care among men living with children below the age of 15 across the EU-27 plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and the UK using recent representative data (the European Labour Survey and its 2018 ad hoc module on work-life balance). We find that although the number of men engaging in costly work adaptations is still very low when compared to their female counterparts, the characteristics of these men can be clearly outlined: they have a non-manual occupation (managers excluded), they have temporary contracts or are self-employed, they are partnered to women who hold jobs of 40 or more hours a week and have a high educational attainment, and they work in family-friendly companies. Also, at the context level, the prevalence of MIC is clearly elated to gender equality and values. However, we do not find evidence of any country having reached the universal caregiver model proposed by Nancy Fraser, including those with more advanced gender and welfare regimes.0402Martínez-Pastor, Juan-Ignacio, Jurado-Guerrero, Teresa, Fernández-Lozano, Irina y Castellanos-Serrano, Cristina . The first study analyzed the relationship between dimensions of EI and aspects of empathy, in a sample of 856 participants who completed two measures of EI, the trait meta-mood scale (TMMS) and the trait emotional intelligence questionnaire (TEIQue), and a measure of empathy, the interpersonal reactivity index (IRI). The results showed a similar pattern of significant positive relations in all the EI domains with empathic perspective-taking (PT), and significant negative relationships with empathic personal distress (PD), except for the EI domain of attention, which had a positive relationship. Stepwise multiple regression analyses showed that the dimension that best predicted empathic PT and empathic concern (EC) was the emotionality factor; whereas attention best predicted empathic fantasy; and the self-control factor best predicted PD, although negatively. Gender emerged as a predictor of three empathic aspects, fantasy, EC, and PD, with women obtaining higher scores than men in all of them. Age was the only predictor of fantasy, with a negative relationship. The second study involved 646 people who completed the same measures of EI as the participants of the first study and the mini-profile of non-verbal sensitivity (Mini-PONS). The results showed some significant relationships between EI dimensions and the channels and quadrants of the MiniPONS. Stepwise multiple regression analyses showed that very few EI dimensions predicted non-verbal sensitivity, with attention obtaining the best result. Both gender and age emerged as predictors, some in unique cases, of channels, quadrants, and of the total score of non-verbal sensitivity; age had a negative relationship, and women obtained higher scores than men.0452Fernández Abascal, Enrique G. y Martín Díaz, María Dolores . Mothers played a particularly important role in this ‘educational shift’. Even though under Francoism legislation and moral habits implied female subordination in virtually all spheres of life, many of those mothers were willing and able to promote their children's education irrespective of their gender. Making use of oral history, the article offers an account of how mothers of the Spanish baby boom generation entered into marriage, organised their daily lives at home and took decisions regarding their children's welfare and education. Today in their old age, these women deserve to be considered important agents of the remarkable social change Spain has experienced during the last decades.0332Chuliá, Elisa . The Weight-Related Abuse Questionnaire (WRAQ) is an instrument specifically designed to measure weight-related abuse. The main goal of this research was to study the factor structure and measurement invariance of the Spanish version of the WRAQ in a non-clinical and a clinical sample. The clinical sample included 150 participants with obesity (60 % women) from the (masked for blind review) Hospital. The non-clinical sample included 301 students (79 % women) from the (masked for blind review) University. Scales to measure weight self-stigma and fear of gaining weight were used to analyze the convergent validity of the WRAQ. A confirmatory factor analysis showed that a two-factor model (verbal and physical abuse) was an acceptable fit for the data in both the clinical and nonclinical samples. Multigroup Confirmatory Factor Analysis revealed scalar measurement invariance by sample and gender. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients and composite reliability for both samples were found to be good, with values ranging from 0.83 to 0.96. Fear of gaining weight was correlated to verbal (r = 0.36, p < .01) and physical (r = 0.12, p < .05) abuse, and weight self-stigma was also related to physical (r = 0.21, p < .01) and verbal (r = 0.41, p < .01) abuse. These results suggest that the WRAQ can be used in clinical and non-clinical samples to assess verbal and physical abuse in both men and women.0562Magallares, Alejandro, Recio, Patricia, Jáuregui-Lobera, Ignacio, Benito del Valle, Pilar, Irles, José Antonio y Hymowitz, Genna .
