This research examines the extent to which, in some contexts, Women’s Day can activate sexist attitudes that reinforce structural inequalities between men and women. Based on ambivalent sexism theory, we propose that people are more likely to agree with benevolent sexist attitudes on Women’s Day than on any other day. In Study 1 (N=190) we measured sexist attitudes on Women’s Day and then one month later. We found that participants asked on Women’s Day reported more benevolent sexism than participants asked a month later. Benevolent sexism was stronger on Women’s Day for men (who scored higher for both hostile and benevolent sexism than women). In order to establish causality, in Study 2 (N=175) we used an experimental paradigm in which we made Women’s Day more salient (against the control condition). Results showed that participants assigned to the Women’s Day experimental condition indicated more support for benevolent sexist attitudes than those assigned to the control condition and again (men scored higher on both dimensions of sexism across both conditions). This research provides evidence of the potential unintended effects of International Women’s Day and the challenges that women still face.0302Quiroga Garza, Angélica, Moreno Bella, Eva, Matamoros Lima, Juan A. y Willi, Guillermo B. . A social and historical approach (Resumen)tesisuned:ED-Pg-SocCamSoc-CleoneIn our western culture disability is very often still meaning incompetence and inferiority. A woman with disability is frequently considered double inferior to everyone, being woman and having a disability, and being in the intersection of different kinds of discrimination. During last decades, at social and political level many things have transformed, and society changed even the words used to speak of or about disability, but nevertheless many questions remain unsolved and the fact that disability is either hidden or denied, or misrepresented, or misevaluated is a reality even now. The experiences of disability are missing from the general culture and very often an engendered investigation is lacking. This thesis aims to widen the existing knowledge on what is needed to improve the quality of life of women with disabilities, by analysing the gap between current legislation in Europe and in particular in Italy and the real life of people with disabilities from a gender perspective. Therefore, the objective of this thesis is to contribute to the literature on the well-being and quality of life of women with disabilities, applying an intersectional approach in empirical research and studies on gender inequality. The thesis argues the theory that women's voices would help better identify priorities and choose the most appropriate policies accordingly, as well as help discover the reasons behind the persistent condition of injustice, with the aim of ensuring more equitable and effective services and sustainable well-being for all. After a European historical and legislative overview and an analysis of the main models of disability that have followed over time, the thesis has been developed by analysing the Italian context where, despite the legislative and social progress in recent years, women with disabilities are still subject to discrimination and exclusion compared to other groups. Through a qualitative analysis, the research aims to deepen the real-life situation and the marginalisation even existing in Italy through the voice of women, offering an important perspective and food for thought to fill the gaps.0Doctoral Thesis4432Leone, Cinzia. <a class="citation_title" title="Click para ver : Women with disabilities in Italy. The paper emphasizes the «female historical invisibility», many times reported in Gender Historiography, with the ultimate goal of understanding the socio-politic causes that have subjugated women during the period elapsed since the victory of the Frente Popular to the begining of the Spanish Civil War. This paper is, also, to add a small contribution to the significant effort developed by some colleagues on this field of study, and it stresses somo aspects less known and less studied. During the reporting period, women play an important role in trade unions, wich be the causes for the later repression, already in the begining on Franco Period. This study highlights the active participation of left wing an republican women in the election campaing of 1936, and their involvement in social unrest during the spring of 1936. Supporting Frente Popular, Women will play an important role in the capaign, and many of them will made, also, their own «campaign» with specific acts such as travelling around the country, promoting and leading numerous campaign events or developing acts in favour of amnesty. Women topics on campaign were about economics and classical political struggle.06162Seoane Amigo, Paloma . Focusing on an Anglo-Irish Victorian novel, Edith Somerville and Martin Ross’s The Real Charlotte (1894), and a post-Second-World-War English novel, Barbara Pym’s Excellent Women (1952), this study explores how unmarried women were portrayed in literature and what stereotypes were associated with them. By analysing the novels within their historical and sociocultural contexts, the paper aims to illustrate how societal expectations and gender norms influenced the lives of spinsters. This study follows a feminist approach to literature, exploring the experiences of unmarried women in terms of identity, agency, social acceptance or rejection, and adherence or challenge to traditional notions of womanhood. The analysis of the main characters of The Real Charlotte and Excellent Women, Charlotte Mullen and Mildred Lathbury, identifies common themes in the portrayal of spinsters, such as social isolation, self-reliance, pressure to marry, and subversion of traditional gender roles. This paper also aims to determine whether negative stereotypes of and prejudices against the spinster remained in the mid-twentieth century, at a time where women had achieved more rights and independence than they had had sixty years before. Ultimately, this study aims to contribute to the broader understanding of gender roles, stereotypes, and dynamics in literature, as well as the construction of one’s identity through social conventions and expectations.0Doctoral Thesis1202Novo Raposo, Julia María. This study aims to explore the extent to which specific styles of CER strategies relate to the anxious and avoidant attachment dimensions in adults and whether such relationships operate similarly for women and men. Two hundred and fifteen adults (between 22 and 67 years old) completed the Spanish versions of the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and the Experiences in Close Relationships instrument. Cluster analysis, ANOVA and Student’s t-test were used. Our results show that women and men can be successfully classified into two CER clusters (Protective and Vulnerable), distinguished by the higher use in the protective cluster of the CER strategies considered most adaptive and complex (Acceptance, Positive Refocusing, Refocus on Planning, Positive Reappraisal, and Putting into Perspective). However, only in women were the anxious and avoidant attachment dimensions significantly associated with CER style. In conclusion, from a clinical and interpersonal perspective, it is interesting to be able to predict the belonging to a Protective or Vulnerable coping style by analysing the CER strategies and to know their relationship with the adult affective system.0332Delgado, Begoña, Amor, Pedro J., Domínguez Sánchez, Francisco Javier y Holgado‑Tello, Francisco P. . A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Studybibliuned:425-Lfilipa-0022Voice complaints associated with menopause have been reported by a substantial number of studies. However, to assess the clinical relevance of menopause to voice is still difficult as the extent to which menopausal symptoms are reflected on voice metrics remains unclear. A comprehensive review and meta-analysis were carried out to identify voice-related metrics that change with menopause and to quantify the magnitude of those changes. Academic Search Premier, Medline, SciELO, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science were searched without restriction of publication year until January 2020. Cross-sectional studies comparing voice-related metrics between pre- and post-menopausal women were included. Studies assessing effects of hormonal-replacement therapy were excluded. Datasets with more than one publication were also disregarded. Methodological quality of included studies was assessed applying the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for cross-sectional studies. Given the heterogeneous nature of the primary studies, random-effects models were applied to pool the estimates. Eight articles were considered eligible for meta-analyses, assessing the effects of menopause on 6 voice metrics: mean fundamental frequency (fo), extracted from (1) speech and (2) from sustained vowel /a/; frequency perturbation measures (3) jitter, (4) shimmer and (5) noise-to-harmonics ratio; and (6) maximum phonation time. Both speech fundamental frequency and fo for sustained vowel /a/ were found to be 0.94 and 1.18 semitones lower in post- as compared to pre-menopausal women, respectively. Although significant, the magnitude of these decreases is below the just noticeable interval difference and well above the cutting point for distinguishing female from male voices. No significant differences were found for jitter, shimmer, noise-to-harmonics ratio, and maximum phonation time. The evaluation of acoustic metrics that reflect a single aspect of voice production at a time may conceal the effects of hormonal shifts during menopause. In addition, several variables interplay during voice production and acoustical measures may constitute weak predictors of vocal folds’ status, where changes associated to sex steroid hormones are most likely to occur.0562Filipa M.B., Lã y Ardura, Diego . The most relevant results reveal significant differences between men and women in the confinement period, on almost all the scales of psychological well-being (SPWB), with the men obtaining a lower mean than the women. The analyses of the differences between the time periods show a significant difference in the Positive Affect scale (PANAS), the ordinary week group obtaining the highest score, and with this score decreasing in the pre-confinement week and the confinement period, and Negative Affect scale (PANAS) remained stable We found no significant differences in the participants’ total depression score (BDI-II). S we obtained significant differences in the Role Physical and Physical Health Component scales (SF-36) between the pre-confinement week, with the highest mean, and the confinement.0422Fernández Abascal, Enrique G. y Martín Díaz, María Dolores .
manera particular, Margarita Nelken; pues
fue la única de ellas que se dedicó a su
estudio de manera profesional. Many women writers of the Spain at the

and dilettantes, as their male
colleagues, because the lack of
professional art history studies, which was
the general keynote of these disciplines
until the second half of the 20th century.
The women writers’ ideas about art did not
appear —except for some cases— in
works about art, but in texts belonging to a
large variety of genres. These did not
always have art as their aim, but devoted
to it many pages and reflections.
Some women writers stand out for the
quantity of their literary production and for
the importance they gave to art: Emilia

Martínez Sierra and, specially, Margarita
Nelken, because she was the only one
who studied art professionally.06772Cabanillas Casafranca, África . The first study analyzed the relationship between dimensions of EI and aspects of empathy, in a sample of 856 participants who completed two measures of EI, the trait meta-mood scale (TMMS) and the trait emotional intelligence questionnaire (TEIQue), and a measure of empathy, the interpersonal reactivity index (IRI). The results showed a similar pattern of significant positive relations in all the EI domains with empathic perspective-taking (PT), and significant negative relationships with empathic personal distress (PD), except for the EI domain of attention, which had a positive relationship. Stepwise multiple regression analyses showed that the dimension that best predicted empathic PT and empathic concern (EC) was the emotionality factor; whereas attention best predicted empathic fantasy; and the self-control factor best predicted PD, although negatively. Gender emerged as a predictor of three empathic aspects, fantasy, EC, and PD, with women obtaining higher scores than men in all of them. Age was the only predictor of fantasy, with a negative relationship. The second study involved 646 people who completed the same measures of EI as the participants of the first study and the mini-profile of non-verbal sensitivity (Mini-PONS). The results showed some significant relationships between EI dimensions and the channels and quadrants of the MiniPONS. Stepwise multiple regression analyses showed that very few EI dimensions predicted non-verbal sensitivity, with attention obtaining the best result. Both gender and age emerged as predictors, some in unique cases, of channels, quadrants, and of the total score of non-verbal sensitivity; age had a negative relationship, and women obtained higher scores than men.0452Fernández Abascal, Enrique G. y Martín Díaz, María Dolores . While Spain is no exception, the issue of why some women in this country choose to forego motherhood has received little attention. Drawing on the Spanish Survey on Fertility and Values (2006), this study analyzes the weight in the decision of three groups of variables having proven crucial for fertility behaviour. Individual socioeconomic circumstances related to the costs of motherhood, the delay in economic independence and union formation, and attitudinal work and family orientations prove all important; which indicates Spain's resemblance to other Western societies. Still, the particularly manifest relevance of a delayed transition to adulthood brings the Spanish case especially close to the Italian one; raising further questions on the fine line separating chosen from accepted childlessness in Southern Europe.0382Seiz, Marta . For these women, life after the violence is (or continues to be) a “living death.” With this characterization I seek to further the debate on the notion of life as perceived in sociology, bearing in mind that in that discipline life has been assumed as a given, and arguing instead that life should be understood as “making a life.”0232Martínez, María . This population is particularly susceptible to mental health problems, such as high levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. Aim: To evaluate possible negative impacts of confinement by COVID-19 on Chilean higher education students’ mental health. Material and Methods: The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) Scale and the Profile of Mood States (POMS) were applied to 315 students during 2016 and to 301 students during 2020. Results: In 2020, depression mean scores for men (24.1) and women (29.7) exceeded the cutoff point, therefore suggesting the presence of depressive disorder. Women had higher depressive and anxious symptoms in both years, however, in 2020 a significant increase was observed for depression, indicating interaction between the year of assessment andgender (0 = 6.74; p <.001). In both samples, first-year students hadsignificantly higherdepressionscores (fl = −1,909;p = 0.05). Conclusions: An increase in depression was observed in 2020. Confinement by COVID-19 had a high impact on mental health in female students. Women and first-year students appear to be high risk groups for developing depressive symptoms.0302Carvacho, Raffaela, Morán-Kneer, Javier, Miranda-Castillo, Claudia, Fernández-Fernández, Virginia, Mora, Beatriz, Moya, Yasnni, Pinilla, Víctor, Toro, Ignacio y Valdivia, Constanza . The Weight-Related Abuse Questionnaire (WRAQ) is an instrument specifically designed to measure weight-related abuse. The main goal of this research was to study the factor structure and measurement invariance of the Spanish version of the WRAQ in a non-clinical and a clinical sample. The clinical sample included 150 participants with obesity (60 % women) from the (masked for blind review) Hospital. The non-clinical sample included 301 students (79 % women) from the (masked for blind review) University. Scales to measure weight self-stigma and fear of gaining weight were used to analyze the convergent validity of the WRAQ. A confirmatory factor analysis showed that a two-factor model (verbal and physical abuse) was an acceptable fit for the data in both the clinical and nonclinical samples. Multigroup Confirmatory Factor Analysis revealed scalar measurement invariance by sample and gender. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients and composite reliability for both samples were found to be good, with values ranging from 0.83 to 0.96. Fear of gaining weight was correlated to verbal (r = 0.36, p < .01) and physical (r = 0.12, p < .05) abuse, and weight self-stigma was also related to physical (r = 0.21, p < .01) and verbal (r = 0.41, p < .01) abuse. These results suggest that the WRAQ can be used in clinical and non-clinical samples to assess verbal and physical abuse in both men and women.0562Magallares, Alejandro, Recio, Patricia, Jáuregui-Lobera, Ignacio, Benito del Valle, Pilar, Irles, José Antonio y Hymowitz, Genna . There is a lack of instruments that evaluate these behaviors and their influence in formal caregivers. The aim of this study is to develop and psychometrically test—the Revised Memory and Behavior Problems Checklist for Nursing Homes (RMBPC-NH). A cross-sectional study was carried out. The sample was made up of 312 formal caregivers working in nursing homes from different territories in Spain, 87.5% were women and 12.5% were men. The average age of participants was 39 years (SD = 12.2). The sample was recruited from January 2019 to March 2020. Participants completed a self-administered questionnaire, which included sociodemographic information, and assessed quality of technical equipment, level of training, experience of working with older people, job satisfaction, professional quality of life, burnout, and conception of negative stereotypes held towards aging. The four-factor structure of the RMBPC-NH showed a good fit, namely in relation to memory, functional, and emotional factors, and other problems. It has shown adequate psychometric properties, internal consistency, and validity (correlations with professional quality of life, job satisfaction, burnout, and negative stereotypes). The RMBPC-NH is a useful instrument to evaluate the frequency of older people’s memory and behavior problems and professional caregivers’ burden. The practical application in nursing homes is discussed.0362Velasco, Cristina, López, Javier, Pérez-Rojo, Gema, Noriega, Cristina y Martínez-Huertas, José Ángel . The Weight Self-Stigma Questionnaire (WSSQ) is an instrument specifically designed to measure weight self-stigma in populations with overweight or obesity. The objective of this study was to adapt the WSSQ to the Spanish population (S-WSSQ) following the guidelines for cross-cultural adaptations. Methods The sample comprised 165 participants with obesity seeking weight loss treatment (65% women) at the “Hospital de Valme” (Seville, Spain). Scales to measure life satisfaction, self-esteem, positive and negative affect, and antifat attitudes were used to analyze the convergent and divergent validity of the S-WSSQ. Results A confirmatory factor analysis showed adequate values of the goodness of fit indexes of a two-factor model (χ2/ df = 2.01 CFI = 0.92, IFI = 0.92, SRMR = 0.08, RMSEA = 0.078), replicating the structure found by the original authors. Cronbach’s alphas of the two factors were 0.76 (self-devaluation) and 0.77 (fear of enacted stigma). Composite Reliability values were 0.72 (self-devaluation) and 0.76 (fear of enacted stigma). Self-devaluation and fear of enacted stigma were negatively related to self-esteem, and positive affect, and positively related to negative affect and antifat attitudes. Finally, life satisfaction was negatively correlated to fear of enacted stigma. Conclusions Based on these results, it is concluded that the S-WSSQ has good psychometric properties and might be used by the Spanish-speaking scientific community to measure weight self-stigma. Deep Learning with a Small Datasetbibliuned:master-ETSInformatica-IAA-AsafontAccording to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast carcinoma is the cancer with highest prevalence among women, with 2.1 million new diagnoses every year. Given the risk of death associated to the metastasis during the late stages of the cancer, early detection is the optimal strategy to reduce the risk of death. Among the numerous tests that can be used in the breast cancer screening, thermography represents a non-invasive, painless, and free of ionizing radiation. The research group within which I have done this research is interested in applying artificial intelligence to analyzing thermographic images for breast cancer screening. Given that the project that this group intends to carry out in collaboration with HM Hospitales has not yet begun, we have used in this master thesis the Database for Mastology Research (DMR) developed at the Visual Lab of the Universidade Federal Fluminense, in Brazil, which is the only dataset of breast thermograms publicly available. It contains 216 patients, with up to 25 image per patient. It has been studied in dozens of research works, most of them using statistical feature extraction and machine learning algorithms for classification. Unfortunately this database has important flaws, such as two different patient having exactly the same image (pixel by pixel), which have not been mentioned in previous works. For this reason we have devoted a significant effort to cleaning the dataset, which reduced it to only 188 images. We have then tried several deep learning models for image classification. We first built from scratch several Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), each consisting of n pairs of convolutional-maxpool layers, a flatten layer, and n dense layers, for different values of n. All the CNNs gave poor results: the highest accuracy, obtained for n = 4, was 75%, and the largest area under the ROC (AUC), obtained for n = 5, was 0.70. We also took into account that a false positive, which may cause anxiety and discomfort to the patient and lead to a biopsy, is not as serious as a false positive, which may delay the detection of cancer, thus requiring more aggressive and expensive treatments and drastically reducing the survival rate. After consulting with a radiologist of HM Montepríncipe hospital, we estimate that the relative cost of a false negative is at least 20 times higher than that of a false positive and defined a metric in which a false negative weighs the same as 20 false positives. In our study, the CNN with n = 5 has the smallest weighted error, by far, so we have selected this network as a reference for the next phases of our study. In the second group of experiments we have used three of the most popular pre-trained CNNs available in Keras: VGG16, VGG19, and ResNet50, and optimized their parameters for our dataset; this process is usually called transfer learning. Contrary to other results published in the literature, all these re-trained CNNs performed worse than the optimal network built from scratch, i.e., the one with n = 5. Finally, we have built several hybrid models by replacing the top m layers of the optimal CNN with either a Support Vector Machine (SVM) or a Sum-Product Network (SPN), for different values of m. Again the performance was lower than for the optimal pure CNN. The conclusion is that when the dataset contains a relatively small number of images, large CNNs tend to overfit, thus leading to poor AUCs, contrary to the case of large datasets, for which very deep networks usually perform much better than shallow ones. An additional reason for which transfer learning did not work in our study is that the above-mentioned networks were trained for color images, while in a thermogram every pixel does not represent a red-green-blue (RGB) color, but a temperature, and for this reason in our case the networks built from scratch (at least some of them) performed better than re-trained CNNs.0Doctoral Thesis3602Safont Andreu, Anna. Italian and Spanish families in a comparative perspectivebibliuned:23034This article analyses family changes in Italy and Spain from 1960 to 1990 and contrasts them with four Central/Northern European countries. Italy and Spain show extremely rapid family changes, which nevertheless do not lead to a convergence between southern and central/northern families. The particularities of the southern family model are a high degree of cross-generational cohabitation, a high frequency of social contacts and help within kinship, a strong institutionalization of marriage, a low female employment rate in the formal labour market, a low fertility rate, and widespread family and child-oriented attitudes. In addition, relations between generations are seen more in terms of obligations than in terms of individual choice. We conclude that the specific economic situation, the particularities of social policies and the family culture in Italy and Spain are important barriers for a further individualization of family relations in these societies. The aim of this paper is to analyse Italy and Spain as representatives of a Mediterranean type of society. The question whether such a type exists with respect to family changes will be explored here. For this purpose we use a comparative perspective. Our assumption is that the division of labour between state, family, labour market and church in Mediterranean countries is a specific one. The societal configuration in the South will be analysed from the perspective of the family. First, we will describe differences in demography and family among countries as well as cultural differences observed by opinion surveys. Second, we will develop some hypotheses in order to explain the southern family characteristics, their interrelations and their relation to other institutions. To this end, we will concentrate on the possible effects that southern modernization processes, employment and unemployment trends, family laws, social policies and some historical and cultural peculiarities in Italy and Spain have on family patterns. In this paper the hypotheses will be put forward only in a preliminary way, without testing them. The socio-economic crisis that has affected all European countries since the mid-seventies has gradually produced a collective loss of faith in the possibility of uninterrupted economic growth and disillusion concerning the programmes and promises of the welfare society. As a result of the crisis, the institutional framework began to change and the social division of responsibilities among the various institutional spheres, state, market and family, had to (and still has to) be re-negotiated (Flora 1985). In the new social and economic context, the interest in the family in the analysis of western-welfare society has become wider. From a cross-national perspective it is often assumed that southern welfare states have a different division of labour between state, market and family than other Northern/Central European societies (Ferrera 1994). Studies on this field show that, despite the development of the welfare state, the family and the ‘serving work’ (Balbo 1983) carried out by women in southern welfare societies have continued to constitute an indispensable resource for the satisfaction of many basic needs. The changing age structure of the population, the decreasing fertility rate and the emerging female employment patterns in Italy and Spain may affect the southern division of labour in an important way. While analysts are emphasizing the importance of the family for the satisfaction of many basic needs in this welfare state crisis period, the most “family-oriented” countries are moving towards a more individualistic society? Is this a contradiction? First of all, it needs to be determined to what extent the family is changing in the South and therefore we will give a general overview on these changes in the European context. Since 1965, in most European countries - with varying intensity and timing - a reduction in the fertility rate and an increase in the divorce rate has taken place. These new family behaviours have been related to the gradual diffusion of cohabitation and to the increase in births out of wedlock. During the 1970s these family changes became more radical in Scandinavia and more widespread in Central Europe, but they remained weak in Southern Europe. What was really new were the relations between sexes and generations. Equal opportunities became an important issue in public life (Roussel 1992), and changes in family roles also occurred. More women have entered the labour market, in a wider range of occupations and for a longer period than at any other time since the Industrial Revolution (Rapoport 1989).010582Jurado Guerrero, Teresa y Naldini, Manuela . The population pyramid presents a broad base (due to the large proportion of children: 43% of the total population is under the age of 15 years) that tapers off to a narrow vertex (due to the low life expectancy: only 6,4% of the population is over 80). The estimated life expectancy in 1996 was 45 years in males and 51 years in females. The mean population density is 10 inhabitants per km' though the distribution is by no means homogeneous. The highest population density corresponds to the province of Kie- Ntem, with 17 inhabitants per km'; however, the island territories present the highest densities of the whole country, with 60 and 120 inhabitants per km' on North Bioko and Annob6n, respectively. The two main urban centers are the capital, Malabo, on the island of Bioko, with an estimated population of 58000 (60% of the total population on Bioko), and Bata, on the continent (population: approx. 45000). Seventy percent of the population of Equatorial Guinea lives in rural areas. Social indicators include: annual population growth rate (1991): 2,4%; global fertility rate (1988): 5,64 offspring per female; gross birth rate (J 989): 4,3%; gross mortality rate (1989): 1,9%; gross infant mortality rate (1989): 21,4%; illiteracy rate: 45%, of which over half are women; 23% of the population has completed primary schooling, 0,5% secondary education, and 0.2% university studies; of the latter, a full 88% are males; just under half of the population (48%) is employed, though only 38% are women. In economical terms, Equatorial Guinea possesses a free market economy, in which the private sector predominates. Expansion is hampered, however, by the precarious condition of the infrastructure, among other factors. The economy is basically fundamented upon two sectors: the exploitation of forest resources and agriculture, which involves 80% of the active population. Equatorial Guinea is included among the least developed countries, with severe deficiencies in terms of basic needs in nutrition, health, education and housing. The Fang are the predominant ethnic group in Equatorial Guinea, representing 82% of the global population. They are in turn divided into the Ntumu Fang to the North of the Uolo river, and the Okak Fang to the South. Four main ethnic groups collectively known as «Playeros- (or «Beach Peoples») inhabit Rfo Muni, the coast and the islands of Corisco and the Elobey group: the Ndowe (representing 3,7% of the population), the Bissio (1,4%) (previously known by the Spaniards as Bujebas), the Basseke, and the Balengue. The Bubi are second most numerous ethnic group, and are native to the island of Bioko. This group represents only 9% of the population. According to the 1983 census, of the total of 57740 inhabitants on Bioko, the Bubis accounted for 42%, while the remaining population was mainly Fang. The Fernandinos on Bioko island and the Annob6n on Bioko and Annob6n islands are minority groups. All these ethnic groups are of Bantu linguistic origin. Most of the population is Christian; however, religious beliefs are a syncretism combining monotheist Christian faith and traditional animist beliefs. The cult of ancestors is common in traditional belief among the different ethnic groups, as is communication with the supernatural world and with the spirits. Luck or ill fortune is always due to the intervention of spirits. These spirits are equally capable of protecting or causing bad luck, illnesses and death. Disease is seen as the confluence of physical and spiritual evil. Poor health is often attributed to a lack of adequate attention or homage to ancestors; it represents punishment by the ancestors for having transgressed certain norms or rules.010262Fernández Moreno, Nuria . However, this does not necessarily have consequences for their work, as they very rarely make costly adaptations in their working lives. In this study, we propose a definition of a man in care (MIC) as a working father who, in order to meet care needs, has adapted his working life in a way that potentially entails a financial penalty. We analyze the prevalence of men in care among men living with children below the age of 15 across the EU-27 plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and the UK using recent representative data (the European Labour Survey and its 2018 ad hoc module on work-life balance). We find that although the number of men engaging in costly work adaptations is still very low when compared to their female counterparts, the characteristics of these men can be clearly outlined: they have a non-manual occupation (managers excluded), they have temporary contracts or are self-employed, they are partnered to women who hold jobs of 40 or more hours a week and have a high educational attainment, and they work in family-friendly companies. Also, at the context level, the prevalence of MIC is clearly elated to gender equality and values. However, we do not find evidence of any country having reached the universal caregiver model proposed by Nancy Fraser, including those with more advanced gender and welfare regimes.0402Martínez-Pastor, Juan-Ignacio, Jurado-Guerrero, Teresa, Fernández-Lozano, Irina y Castellanos-Serrano, Cristina .
In the present article the main obtained results from a research on violence in couple’s relationships are shown. This research was carried out on students from the Faculty of Education of the University of Granada. This study is mainly descriptive and shows the characteristics of this phenomenon in relation to the typology, incidence and grade of self-perception of the problem. Obtained data show that 21,2% of the students have frequently suffered some kind of violence –pointed out in the questionnaire- from their couples, and how those behaviours affect mainly women than men. Also, the low grade of self-perception of the problem by the students is acknowledged. Finally, the necessity of working, during the education of the future teachers, on the detection and prevention of violence in the couple is suggested, and some educative intervention principles in this field are proposed.05382Soriano Díaz, Andrés . The current research aims to draw the structure of gender stereotypes and metastereotype schemes as complex systems of stereotypical features. Therefore, we analyze gender stereotypes as networks of interconnected characteristics. Method: Through an online survey (N = 750), participants listed the common female and male features to build the structure of the gender stereotypes. Participants also listed the common features of howmembers of one gender think they are viewed by people of the other gender to build the structure of gender metastereotypes. Results: Our results suggest that female stereotypes are characterized by a single community of features consistently associated such as intelligent, strong, and hardworkers. Female metastereotype, however, combines the previous community with another characterized by weak and sensitive. On the contrary, the male stereotype projected by women is characterized by a community of features associated such as intelligent, strong, and hardworker, but male in-group stereotypes and metastereotypes projected by men are a combination of this community with another one characterized by features associated such as strong, chauvinist, and aggressive. Discussion: A network approach to studying stereotypes provided insights into the meaning of certain traits when considered in combination with di0382Rodríguez Sánchez, Ángel, Moreno Bella, Eva y García Sánchez, Efrain . Nicotine-induced increases in impulsivity has been previously reported in male humans and rodents. Although the potential for sex differences in nicotine-induced impulsivity has not been examined. Aims and methods: In the present study, male and female Sprague Dawley rats were submitted to a delay discounting task, in which several consecutive measures of self-control were taken. Firstly, rats were tested with vehicle, and next with nicotine doses of 0.4 and 0.8 mg/kg. Thereafter, chronic treatment with bupropion started, and the animals were tested again. Half the animals continued to receive 0.8 mg/kg of nicotine, while the rest received nicotine and also a daily dose of 30 mg/kg of bupropion. Results: When the animals were first tested with nicotine, female rats showed a significant nicotine dose dependent increase of impulsive behaviour, whereas male rats only showed a decrease on their elections of the larger but delayed reward under the highest dose of 0.8 mg/kg of nicotine. Treatment with bupropion blocked the effect of nicotine on decision making in female rats, as they showed results close to their baseline levels. On the other hand, bupropion did not affect the nicotine-induced delay discounting in male rats. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate sexually dimorphic effects of nicotine on cognitive impulsivity which may help to shed light on nicotine use vulnerabilities observed in women.0452Íbias, Javier y Nazarian, Arbi . This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to (a) determine the effect of exercise-based CR on heart-rate-derived indices associated with cardiac parasympathetic modulation in resting and post-exercise conditions in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients and (b) identify the possible moderator variables of the effect of exercise-based CR on parasympathetic modulation. Methods We searched CENTRAL and Web of Science up to November 2018 for the following terms: adult CAD patients, controlled exercise-based CR interventions and parasympathetic modulation measured in resting (vagal-related heart rate variability [HRV] indices of the root mean square of the differences in successive in RR interval [RMSSD] and high frequency [HF]) and post-exercise (heart rate recovery [HRR]) pre- and post-intervention. We estimated a random-effects model of standardised mean difference (SMD) and mean difference (MD) for vagal-related HRV indices and HRR, respectively. We assessed the influence of categorical and continuous variables. Results The overall effect size showed significant differences in RMSSD (SMD+ = 0.30; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.12–0.49) and HRR (MD+ = 5.35; 95% CI = 4.08–6.61 bpm) in favour of the exercise-based CR group. The overall effect size showed no differences in HF between groups (SMD+ = 0.14; 95% CI, −0.12–0.40). Heterogeneity analyses reached statistical significance, with high heterogeneity for HF (p < 0.001; I2 = 70%) and HRR (p < 0.001; I2 = 85%). Analysis of the moderator variables showed that the effect on HRR is greater in young patients (p = 0.008) and patients treated with percutaneous intervention (p = 0.020). Conclusions Exercise-based CR improves the post-exercise parasympathetic function, with greater effects in younger CAD patients and in those who were revascularised with percutaneous intervention. The effects on resting parasympathetic function are more controversial due to methodological inconsistencies in measuring HRV, with the use of RMSSD recommended instead of HF because its results show higher consistency. Future studies involving women, focusing on methodological issues, and performing other training methods are needed to increase our knowledge about this topic.0342Manresa-Rocamora, Agustín, Ribeiro, Fernando, Sarabia, José Manuel, Íbias, Javier, Oliveira, Nórton Luís, Vera-García, Francisco José y Moya-Ramón, Manuel .
