Thus Romualdo Nogués defined, in 1890, Spanish collectors of bourgeois origin who had joined the ranks of the aristocracy. A few years later, in 1924, the Duke of Alba’s maiden speech at the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando justified his personal artistic worthiness on the basis of his ancestors’ collecting activities and the artworks they had amassed. These two examples set the scene for the research questions studied in this monographic issue. The present introduction offers a bird’s eye view of the phenomenon and continues with a few remarks about the House of Osuna which, as is well known, occupied a pivotal position in Spanish nobility during the whole of the second half of the nineteenth century.0322Urquízar Herrera, Antonio .

acknowledged said influences on many

analysis of his work and his interest in
Japan, where he travelled several times,
demonstrate that the Spanish architecture
was influenced by the Orient. This article
provides a more complete overview of
Fisac’s evolution as an architect. It offers a
historic outlook of his development during
the forties and fifties, when he created his
personal concept of architecture by
appropriating ideas from diverse sources,
with oriental architecture being one of his
principal influences. In addition, this article
examines, in detail, the effects that contact

in showing what was happening outside
our country, since its opening bet on the
European vanguardists, he saw for the
first time in his rooms the great artists of
the twentieth century; promoted, true his
ideals, youth and relevant Catalan artists

with purity and rigor informalist abstract

corrientes europeas. The centenary of the Gran Vía has
become an opportunity to gain insight into
the most significant elements from the
point of view of architecture, which mark
this street, product of the last major
domestic reform that rushed into the city of
Madrid. In just twenty years, stand the
latest examples of historicist eclectic
architecture, to go from a jump like few
times in our architectural historiography,
the construction of possibly better example
of rationalist architecture, the Building
Capitol, accompanied by flashes of
modern architecture, after the traumatic
break of the Civil War and the first
postwor, will be accompanied by unique
elements of an architecture in pursuit of a
meaningless way, promoted by the end of
a generation of architects. This sense of
acceleration and brake is linked to some of
the most prominent names of Spanish
architecture of the first two thirds of the
twentieth century: Palacios, Anasagasti,
Gutiérrez Soto, Fernández-Shaw,
Muguruza, Feduchi or Eced among others.010132López Díaz, Jesús .
