This is the case of Virtual Research Environments (VREs), as they facilitate researchers and users from different communities a place to develop, store, share and preserve their work (Carusi and Reimer, 2010). The first DH Center in Spain, LINHD, the Digital Innovation Lab at UNED has started developing EVILINHD, the first VRE for Spanish-speakers (González-Blanco, 2016; del Río Riande, 2016b). The environment offers researchers a collaborative space in the cloud to manage all phases of their projects: the edition process, storage into the database, and text visualization in several output formats, such as HTML. In order to facilitate digital scholarly editing a specific tagging tool has been developed as a cloud application implemented with Vaadin, an open-source Java framework and integrated in EVILINHD: TEIScribe (TEIScribe, 2016). TEIScribe helps the DH community to concurrently label texts with TEI without XML knowledge through a graphic and intuitive design that aims to break language and technological barriers. The tool, that was conceived and developed for the BIESES project in order to boost collaborative work (BIESES, 2016), is based on some of the existing collaborative cloud editors (such as FontoXML, or CWRC writer), so its learning curve is low. The creation, modification and eliminating of labels and attributes is done with only a few mouse clicks. Since not all projects have the same labeling needs (Spadini, 2015), each text in TEIScribe is linked to a particular scheme that establishes the TEI-file structure (an XML file). All documents employed by the application are stored in a NoSQL database, a documental database, namely eXistDB, which organizes the different XML documents and schemes by project, and their correspondence. The NetPro project integrates traditional PBL into a network based learning environment. The project has developed models, tools and services to facilitate communication and collaboration between distant students, and to manage access and control of project deliverables. NetPro project teams form cross-institutional learning communities. This new learning environment is a distributed system that facilitates sharing and peer reviewing of project deliverables and interaction in special interest group discussions. The aim of this course is to bring the student closer to the professional electronic circuit design world .The methodology of this practical course is innovative. The educational resources used consist of a professional CAD tool for electronic design (Cadence), the use of English as the “official language” of the course, 8 practical cases, 3 competitive challenges among the students and Figure Of Merits (FOM) for the evaluation of these milestones. Although the study of populism has experienced an unprecedented growth across social sciences during the last decade, research directly addressing this connection remains scarce. Moreover, most existing tools used to measure populism have not been created paying much consideration to their compatibility with those applied in the other side of this demand-supply divide. This article critically revisits the influential Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (CSES) Module 5 dataset to illustrate shortcomings regarding current efforts to measure the demand- and supply-sides of populism. We show that according to CSES data the, often presumed, correspondence between “populist” attitudes and likelihood of voting for “populist parties” is only partial and country specific. But more importantly, we identify three main potential sources of such mismatch linked to instrumental issues: (i) problems with the choice, design and operationalization of attitudinal survey items; (ii) problems in the assessment of parties’ populism; and (iii) instrument biases that make them more effective with some varieties of populism than with others. These methodological limitations are hindering our ability to settle longstanding theoretical debates concerning the correspondence between the demand- and supply-side, the relative centrality of attributes, and varieties of populism. This will lead to an applied learning- and teaching-enhancement-oriented sustainable Higher Education System. This research aims to contribute to that goal by analyzing student interactions in a collaborative learning community. It assesses the impact of visual tools on academic performance and student satisfaction in employment-focused blended studies, in which enrollees were geographically dispersed undergraduates with a diversity of profiles. A financial studies learning community was created to test students’ interactions in a model conducive to participation as visual content creators and users. Three surveys (pre-project, appraisal of classmates’ visual exercises, and post-project) were conducted to assess project impact. First, we used a univariate approach, focused on students’ characteristics, course and project appraisals, and the eects of the project on academic performance and expectations. Secondly, a bivariate approach was conducted to detect relationships between respondents’ appraisals and personal characteristics and to determine whether their mean scores were the same irrespective of such characteristics. The findings showed that: (1) Students’ preferences concur with those of their employers; (2) participation in innovative initiatives improves students’ perception of course procedures; (3) visual tools have a positive impact on learning, in terms of both academic performance and student satisfaction. Moodle is a free source LMS with more than 63 million users, which makes it the most used LMS around the world. Like some other LMS, the stated philosophy of Moodle includes a constructivist and social constructionist approach to education, emphasizing that learners (and not just teachers) can contribute to the educational experience. This is the web 2.0 applied to education. Easy Java Simulations (EJS) is an authoring tool written in Java that helps to create interactive simulations in Java, mainly for teaching and learning purposes. By means of this tool, instructors can easily create virtual and/or (if they also use the appropriate additional software) remote laboratories. While virtual laboratories are based on mathematical models, remote ones use real equipment and so, the experiments are carried out in the reality. Virtual and remote laboratories (created with EJS, for example) as well as LMS (Moodle, for example) offer different but fundamental educational tools to both teachers and students. Since these resources are complementary (and not mutually exclusive), e-learning programs should offer both kinds of tools to be considered a complete experience for students. However, the integration between these two different resources is still an open issue that must be addressed. This thesis gathers together the two previous resources and provides the necessary tools and methodology for developing web experimentation portals (such as UNEDLabs, also presented here) that can offer e-learning programs based on: 1) experimentation (thanks to the use of the virtual and remote laboratories) and 2) theory documentation provision, social interactivity and easy management (thanks to the use of a LMS). Moreover, the presented tools and methodology allow people not specialized in these particular topics (such as they are the vast majority of the teachers) to easily create these kind of experimentation portals and populate them with virtual and/or remote laboratories (VRLs). Four new Moodle plug-ins facilitate this task: EJSApp, EJSApp Booking System, EJSApp Files Browser and EJSApp Collab Sessions. Nowadays, UNEDLabs holds two courses (among others); one in Control Engineering and another one in Physics. Both of them offer three experiments which are all available in the two possible versions: virtual and remote. The Physics course is still growing and new experiments are added every year. Right now, the three available ones are a motorized rotatory laser for studying the light in isotropic media, a motorized optical bench for determining the focal length of a thin lens, and an experiment with three springs and related to Hookes law. Thanks to the tools presented in this work, not only all the EJS laboratories in UNEDLabs are added and integrated into the Moodle web portal in a very easy and natural way, but they also acquire several special functionalities they lack when they are used outside this LMS. The first of these functionalities is the capability of saving and/or loading files to/from the private files repository in Moodle. The second one is the possibility to create collaborative experimental sessions with other users of Moodle who are enrolled to the course the EJS lab belongs to. The third one is an automatic integration with a booking system specifically designed for managing users access to the remote laboratories. The reduction of motion sickness can be stated as a monovariable regulation problem of a highly perturbed system. This work presents the design of a monovariable robust controller with quantitative feedback theory (QFT) for reducing the vertical movement on a high-speed ferry. The different stages of QFT methodology have been done with the help of the software tool QFTIT (Quantitative Feedback Theory Interactive Tool). This is a free software tool that is characterized by its ease of use and interactive nature. The designed regulator is validated experimentally in sea behaviour trials with a scaled down replica 1/25 the size of a high-speed ferry. Tools based on artificial intelligence can be used to face this complex problem. In this work, a computer-aided tool is developed to predict relevant mechanical properties of aluminum alloys—Young’s modulus, yield stress, ultimate tensile strength and elongation at break. These predictions are based on the alloy chemical composition and tempers, and are employed to estimate the bilinear approximation of the stress-strain curve, very useful as a decision tool that helps in the selection of materials. The system is based on the use of artificial neural networks supported by a big data collection about technological characteristics of thousands of commercial materials. It compares quantitatively and qualitatively the electoral manifestos of four radical right parties —Vox, RN, UKIP, and Brexit Party—, and shows that borders are basic factors in the process of decontestation of “the people” and construction of exclusion-inclusion narratives. Likewise, this analysis exemplifies how (re)bordering claims are usually justified and articulated via populist discursive elements such as antagonism, morality, idealization of society, popular sovereignty and personalistic leadership. This article demonstrates that the border can become a method to study populism and vice versa and that crossfertilization between the borders and populism literatures is desirable. Esta investigación emerge debido a la reciente implementación de aprendizaje semi-presencial en estas escuelas, la cuál está a transformar su manera de enseñar y evaluar. Para ello, se lleva a cabo un cuasi experimento en el cual se recogen los datos cualitativos y cuantitativos a través de la analítica de estadísticas, entrevistas, cuestionarios y análisis de contenidos. They have been designed to build state-transition models, mainly in medicine, and perform cost-effectiveness analysis. Using a causal graph that may contain several variables per cycle, MIDs can model various features of the patient without multiplying the number of states; in particular, they can represent the history of the patient without using tunnel states. OpenMarkov, an open-source tool, allows the decision analyst to build and evaluate MIDs—including cost-effectiveness analysis and several types of deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analysis—with a graphical user interface, without writing any code. This way, MIDs can be used to easily build and evaluate complex models whose implementation as spreadsheets or decision trees would be cumbersome or unfeasible in practice. Selected conditions to improve this signal were: pH 9.5, 0.14 M Britton Robinson buffer and methanol between 5% and 10%. The excitation–emission fluorescence matrices of a set of 36 samples of Spanish paprika were analyzed by means of parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC). Thus, the profiles of possible fluorescence components (PARAFAC loadings) were obtained. One of these profiles was identified by matching PARAFAC scores with LC analysis on the same samples. Two clusters of samples were obtained when score values were plotted against each other. Spectrofluorimetry coupled to second order multivariate calibration methods, as unfolded-partial least squares with residual bilinearization (U-PLS/RBL) and multidimensional-partial least-squares with residual bilinearization (N-PLS/RBL), was investigated to quantify quercetin and kaempferol in those samples. Estas plataformas ofrecen, entre otros servicios, el de foros, que son utilizados para que los estudiantes se comuniquen con el equipo docente o entre sí. El objetivo del proyecto es continuar con el desarrollo de una aplicación que permita incorporar los datos de los foros asociados a los cursos virtuales de la UNED, gestionar y manipular dichos datos desde la propia aplicación y generar información de salida que facilite al responsable de la asignatura el proceso de análisis de la interacciones y modelado del estudiante, y así poder establecer procesos de mejora. El proyecto amplía la funcionalidad y profundiza en los métodos de minería de datos orientados al entorno educativo y en la integración de la información generada por la aplicación con las herramientas más avanzadas actualmente en materia de gestión, así como representación de gráficos. Se realiza un proceso de modelado del estudiante, sobre todo de su componente social, con la finalidad de ofrecer información útil para la gestión de actividades de aprendizaje colaborativo. Las tecnologías empleadas para llevar a cabo el proyecto han sido entre otras Spring Tool Suite, el cual ha permitido crear toda la aplicación a través del lenguaje de programación Java, y utilizándose tecnologías y lenguajes como HTML, PhpMyAdmin, Spring JPA y Thymeleaf para la creación de la aplicación y para la gestión de bases de datos. Muchos traductores del Consejo la han aceptado, mientras que otros desconfían de ella. Al igual que otros recursos, sirve de ayuda a aquellos profesionales que elaboran el texto meta de acuerdo con los procedimientos de trabajo común (CWP por sus siglas en inglés) del Consejo de la UE. A pesar de la existencia de estas guías, el producto final varía no solo de una lengua a otra, sino también de un traductor a otro. Este trabajo de fin de máster se centra en el caso de estudio del español con el objetivo de esclarecer cuándo, cómo y por qué el traductor decide usar NMT o no y cuáles son las consecuencias derivadas de estas decisiones. Existen aspectos decisivos, como los plazos de entrega, la calidad y los prejuicios en torno a la traducción automática neural, que influyen en este proceso. Mientras que la causa del último es el pensamiento colectivo, el tiempo y la calidad constituyen factores cruciales para el Consejo. En este sentido, los traductores se dividen entre aquellos que rechazan el uso de NMT y aquellos que la utilizan, pero la infravaloran. Teniendo en cuenta estas circunstancias, es necesario analizar cada idioma de forma individual para identificar cualquier déficit durante los procesos de revisión y post-edición. Esto nos permitirá reflexionar acerca de un contexto lingüístico individual para obtener conclusiones que puedan aplicarse a situaciones similares. Asimismo, servirá para aprovechar al máximo la capacidad de la traducción automática neuronal para producir el texto meta. De acuerdo con este proyecto de investigación, es posible confirmar que, en el caso del español, el agente humano y la traducción automática neural continuarán conviviendo. In Spanish literary studies, detailed case-studies of the phenomenon based on single authors exist. However, a larger-scale study spanning hundreds of major and minor authors, across several centuries, is not available so far. Towards that need, we have developed software based on Natural Language Processing (NLP), to automatically identify enjambment (and its type) in Spanish. To evaluate the system, we manually annotated two reference corpora (one diachronic, one from the 20th century). Results are satisfactory for the system's first version, with F1 varying depending on period and enjambment type. As a scholarly corpus to apply the tool, from public HTML sources we created a diachronic corpus covering four centuries of sonnets (3750 poems). This study aims at exploring static back pressure and ball height as function of flow for two devices, marketed as flow ball and floating ball game. Study Design. This is a comparative descriptive study. Methods. A flow-driven vocal tract simulator was used to investigate the aerodynamic properties of these two devices, testing them for four different ball sizes. The flow range investigated was between 0 and 0.5 L/s. Audio, flow, pressure, and ball height were recorded. Results. The flow pressure profiles for both tested devices were similar to those observed in previous studies on narrow tubes. For lifting the ball, both devices had a flow and a pressure threshold. The tested floating ball game required considerably higher back pressure for a given flow as compared with the flow ball. Conclusions. Both tested devices have similar effects on back pressure as straws of 3.7 and 3.0 mm in diameter for the flow ball and the floating ball game, respectively. One might argue that both devices could be used as tools for practicing semi-occluded vocal tract exercises, with the additional benefit of providing real-time visual feedback of airflow during phonation. In these analyzes through CEP, we generated several lambda intervals, each with the optimal intervention, its cost and expected effectiveness. Being able to represent these lambda intervals, through a graphic model, will help us see all the available information and will speed us up to make a decision. If we can optimize this tree, it will be easier to study and understand it. Objective: To find the algorithm that returns the best optimization of the generated tree after applying the deterministic CEA analysis. Methods: Applying pruning techniques on the tree nodes (variable exchange, elimination of redundancies, lambda displacement) in a search algorithm, we will be able to get partial results of the search optimization, until we reach the most optimal tree optimization result created with CEP results. Results: Once optimized with the most appropriate pruning techniques and algorithms, we will have a graphic model where the different options can be observed in a more effective and clear way than when we use a textual description. Conclusion: Through the open source software tool "OpenMarkov" the possibility of graphically displaying the result of a deterministic CEA analysis has been implemented.
