However, the most commonly used estimation method for CDMs, marginal maximum likelihood estimation with Expectation–Maximization (MMLE-EM), can present difficulties when sample sizes are small. This study compares the results of different estimation methods for CDMs under varying sample sizes using simulated and empirical data. The methods compared include MMLE-EM, Bayes modal, Markov chain Monte Carlo, a non-parametric method, and a parsimonious parametric model such as Restricted DINA. We varied the sample size, and assessed the bias in the estimation of item parameters, the precision in attribute classification, the bias in the reliability estimate, and computational cost. The findings suggest that alternative estimation methods are preferred over MMLE-EM under low sample-size conditions, whereas comparable results are obtained under large sample-size conditions. Practitioners should consider using alternative estimation methods when working with small samples to obtain more accurate estimates of CDM parameters. This study aims to maximize the potential of CDMs by providing guidance on the estimation of the parameters.0242Sorrel, Miguel A., Escudero, Scarlett, Nájera, Pablo, Schames Kreitchmann, Rodrigo y Vázquez-Lira, Ramsés . The SILP sorbent was prepared with three remarkably different mean particle sizes and characterized by porous texture, morphology, thermal stability, and elemental composition. The thermodynamics and kinetics of the CO2 capture process has been studied, testing the effects of SILP particle size, sorption temperature, gas flow rate, and CO2 partial pressure. The CO2 sorption isotherms at different temperatures were obtained by gravimetric measurements, revealing that the equilibrium sorption capacity is only due to the IL incorporated on the silica support of SILP. The experimental isotherms were successfully fitted to the Langmuir−Freundlich model. Fixed-bed experiments of CO2 capture were carried out to evaluate the performance of the SILP sorbents at different operating conditions. All the breakthrough curves were well described by a linear driving force model. The obtained kinetic coefficients revealed that the CO2 sorption rate in fixed-bed linearly increases when decreasing the SILP particle size and increasing the operating temperature. Higher CO2 partial pressure in the inlet gas stream led to a faster mass transfer rate, affecting both the mass transfer driving force and kinetic coefficient. Aspen Adsorption simulator was successfully applied to model the fixed-bed operation, highlighting the role of the particle size on separation efficiency. Simulations results indicate that at very low CO2 partial pressure chemical absorption is the controlling step, while increasing that partial pressure shifts the regime toward diffusion into the SILP. This methodology will allow designing CO2 sorption systems based on SILPs that fulfill the separation requirements at given conditions (CO2 partial pressure and temperature), minimizing the SILP needs by optimizing the particle size and type of IL.0512Santiago, Rubén, Lemus, Jesús, Hospital-Benito, Daniel, Moya, Cristian, Bedia, Jorge, Alonso-Morales, Noelia, Rodríguez, Juan J. y Palomar, Jose . The model includes governing equations based on mass, species, and energy balances, implemented for the main components of the system. It accounts for both thermal and mass resistances in the transfer processes that occur in the system. The study evaluates the performance of the ROBUR® absorption refrigeration system, model ACF60-00 LB, operating under part-load conditions, driven by hot water temperatures ranging between 160 and 210 °C, while the ambient temperature remains up to 40 °C. This refrigeration system is characterised by including an extra valve that allows active control of the pressure levels of the system. The analysis focusses on the effect of its active control on the size of the system. The results show that increasing the pressure loss in this valve reduces the size of the air-cooled absorber to 37.3 % of its nominal size at an ambient temperature of 40 °C, while the reduction in refrigerant mass flow is 18.5 %, while the condenser size decreases 3.1 times. Evaporator, air-cooled absorber and condenser effectiveness are minimally affected. Additionally, contribution of condenser and evaporator to exergy destruction is balanced.0352Palacios-Lorenzo, María Esther y Marcos, José Daniel . Here we provide the example of a spin chain with random and inhomogeneous couplings that in the ground state exhibits a very unusual area-law violation. In the clean limit, i.e. without disorder, the model is the rainbow chain and has volume law entanglement. We show that, in the presence of disorder, the entanglement entropy exhibits a power-law growth with the subsystem size, with an exponent 1/2. By employing the strong disorder renormalization group (SDRG) framework, we show that this exponent is related to the survival probability of certain random walks. The ground state of the model exhibits extended regions of short-range singlets (that we term ‘bubble’ regions) as well as rare long range singlet (‘rainbow’ regions). Crucially, while the probability of extended rainbow regions decays exponentially with their size, that of the bubble regions is power law. We provide strong numerical evidence for the correctness of SDRG results by exploiting the free-fermion solution of the model. Finally, we investigate the role of interactions by considering the random inhomogeneous XXZ spin chain. Within the SDRG framework and in the strong inhomogeneous limit, we show that the above area-law violation takes place only at the free-fermion point of phase diagram. This point divides two extended regions, which exhibit volume-law and area-law entanglement, respectively.0262Alba, Vincenzo, Santalla, Silvia N., Ruggiero, Paola, Rodriguez-Laguna, Javier, Calabrese, Pasquale y Sierra, German . Given that model selection makes all-or-nothing decisions regarding to the inclusion of model parameters, we evaluated if model averaging could deal with model uncertainty to recover random effects of MEMs-CR. Specifically, we analyzed the bias and the root mean squared error (RMSE) of the estimations of the variances of random effects using model averaging with Akaike weights and Bayesian model averaging with BIC posterior probabilities, comparing them with two alternative analytical strategies as benchmarks: AIC and BIC model selection, and fitting a full random structure. A simulation study was conducted manipulating sample sizes for subjects and items, and the variance of random effects. Results showed that model averaging, especially Akaike weights, can adequately recover random variances, given a minimum sample size in the modeled clusters. Thus, we endorse using model averaging to deal with model uncertainty in MEMs-CR. An empirical illustration is provided to ease the usability of model averaging.0292Martínez-Huertas, José Ángel y Olmos, Ricardo . Although the evolution, stability, and breakup of fluid sheets composed of a Newtonian liquid has been extensively studied, the morphology and dynamics of viscoelastic fluid sheets remains poorly understood. This manuscript provides a theoretical and numerical framework that integrates the effects of fluid elasticity, surface tension, inertia, and viscosity to predict the morphology, velocity, and stress within stable fluid sheets composed of viscoelastic fluids as a function of the dimensionless Weber, Reynolds, and Weissenberg numbers. We find a non-monotonic behavior in the sheet’s size, velocity, and stress distribution as a function of the ratio between the Weissenberg and the Weber numbers. In particular, a minimum in the sheet’s size and a maximum in the stress occur when such a ratio is of the order of unity. We interpret these results as the consequence of the competing effects of the growth-favoring inertia and the restoring elastic forces acting within the sheet.0312Rodríguez-Hakim, Mariana, Stricker, Laura y Vermant, Jan . A standard modeling approach that includes such sources of variability is the mixed-effects models (MEMs) with crossed random effects. However, under-parameterizing or over-parameterizing the random structure of MEMs bias the estimations of the Standard Errors (SEs) of fixed effects. In this simulation study, we examined two different but complementary perspectives: model selection with likelihood-ratio tests, AIC, and BIC; and model averaging with Akaike weights. Results showed that true model selection was constant across the different strategies examined (including ML and REML estimators). However, sample size and variance of random slopes were found to explain true model selection and SE bias of fixed effects. No relevant differences in SE bias were found for model selection and model averaging. Sample size and variance of random slopes interacted with the estimator to explain SE bias. Only the within-subjects effect showed significant underestimation of SEs with smaller number of items and larger item random slopes. SE bias was higher for ML than REML, but the variability of SE bias was the opposite. Such variability can be translated into high rates of unacceptable bias in many replications.0242Martínez-Huertas, José Ángel, Olmosa, Ricardo y Ferrer, Emilio . Prior to analysing the quality of the audit, we have adjusted the best possible model to the audit fees behaviour in order to extract the abnormal fees. Our dynamic model shows that audited company’s size, the previous year’s audit fees, the years with the same audit firm, the auditor’s opinion, the auditor rotation, the concentration or dedication to the client and the client sector are explanatory factors of audit fees. Further, we find evidence that audit quality improves with number of hours billed for audit work and decreases with sector concentration of auditor and, a novel multiplicative effect, the auditor size by abnormal audit fees, in such a way that the surcharge (abnormal fees) of the big audit firms contribute negatively to improve the audit quality.0222Guzmán-Raja, Isidoro, González-Sánchez, Mariano, Rúa-Alonso-De- Corralesc, Enrique y Sánchez-García, Juan Francisco . As in any assessment, an accurate reliability estimation is crucial for valid score interpretations. In this sense, most CDM reliability indices are based on the posterior probabilities of the estimated attribute profiles. These posteriors are traditionally computed using point estimates for the model parameters as approximations to their populational values. If the uncertainty around these parameters is unaccounted for, the posteriors may be overly peaked, deriving into overestimated reliabilities. This article presents a multiple imputation (MI) procedure to integrate out the model parameters in the estimation of the posterior distributions, thus correcting the reliability estimation. A simulation study was conducted to compare the MI procedure with the traditional reliability estimation. Five factors were manipulated: the attribute structure, the CDM model (DINA and G-DINA), test length, sample size, and item quality. Additionally, an illustration using the Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English data was analyzed. The effect of sample size was studied by sampling subsets of subjects from the complete data. In both studies, the traditional reliability estimation systematically provided overestimated reliabilities, whereas the MI procedure offered more accurate results. Accordingly, practitioners in small educational or clinical settings should be aware that the reliability estimation using model parameter point estimates may be positively biased. R codes for the MI procedure are made available0252Schames Kreitchmann, Rodrigo, Torre, Jimmy de la, Sorrel, Miguel A., Nájera, pablo y Abad, Francisco J. . However, previous studies included multiple linguistic indicators to predict personality from an exploratory framework. The aim of this study was to conduct a cross-validation study analyzing the relationships between language indicators and personality traits to test the generalizability of previous results; (2) Methods: 643 Spanish undergraduate students were tasked to write a self-description in 500 words (which was evaluated with the LIWC) and to answer a standardized Big Five questionnaire. Two different analytical approaches using multiple linear regression were followed: first, using the complete data and, second, by conducting different cross-validation studies; (3) Results: The results showed medium effect sizes in the first analytical approach. On the contrary, it was found that language and personality relationships were not generalizable in the cross-validation studies; (4) Conclusions: We concluded that moderate effect sizes could be obtained when the language and personality relationships were analyzed in single samples, but it was not possible to generalize the model estimates to other samples. Thus, previous exploratory results found on this line of research appear to be incompatible with a nomothetic approach.0342Martínez-Huertas, José Ángel, David Moreno, José, Olmos,Ricardo, Martínez-Mingo, Alejandro y Jorge-Botana, Guillermo . The reduction of motion sickness can be stated as a monovariable regulation problem of a highly perturbed system. This work presents the design of a monovariable robust controller with quantitative feedback theory (QFT) for reducing the vertical movement on a high-speed ferry. The different stages of QFT methodology have been done with the help of the software tool QFTIT (Quantitative Feedback Theory Interactive Tool). This is a free software tool that is characterized by its ease of use and interactive nature. The designed regulator is validated experimentally in sea behaviour trials with a scaled down replica 1/25 the size of a high-speed ferry. The designed regulator is also compared with a gain-scheduling scheme using a proportional and derivative controller (PD).06992Díaz Martínez, José Manuel, Dormido Bencomo, Sebastián y Aranda Almansa, Joaquín . Here we investigate the Galactic distribution and properties of two DIBs identified in almost six million stellar spectra collected by the Gaia Radial Velocity Spectrometer. These measurements constitute a part of the Gaia Focused Product Release to be made public between the Gaia DR3 and DR4 data releases. In order to isolate the DIB signal from the stellar features in each individual spectrum, we identified a set of 160 000 spectra at high Galactic latitudes (|b| ⩾ 65◦) covering a range of stellar parameters which we consider to be the DIB-free reference sample. Matching each target spectrum to its closest reference spectra in stellar parameter space allowed us to remove the stellar spectrum empirically, without reference to stellar models, leaving a set of six million ISM spectra. Using the star’s parallax and sky coordinates, we then allocated each ISM spectrum to a voxel (VOlume piXEL) on a contiguous three-dimensional grid with an angular size of 1.8◦ (level 5 HEALPix) and 29 unequally sized distance bins. Identifying the two DIBs at 862.1 nm (λ862.1) and 864.8 nm (λ864.8) in the stacked spectra, we modelled their shapes and report the depth, central wavelength, width, and equivalent width (EW) for each, along with confidence bounds on these measurements. We then explored the properties and distributions of these quantities and compared them with similar measurements from other surveys. Our main results are as follows: (1) the strength and spatial distribution of the DIB λ862.1 are very consistent with what was found in Gaia DR3, but for this work we attained a higher signal-to-noise ratio in the stacked spectra to larger distances, which allowed us to trace DIBs in the outer spiral arm and beyond the Scutum–Centaurus spiral arm; (2) we produced an all-sky map below ±65◦ of Galactic latitude to ∼4000 pc of both DIB features and their correlations; (3) we detected the signals of DIB λ862.1 inside the Local Bubble (≲200 pc); and (4) there is a reasonable correlation with the dust reddening found from stellar absorption and EWs of both DIBs with a correlation coefficient of 0.90 for λ862.1 and 0.77 for λ864.8.0332Schultheis, M., Zhao, H., Zwitter, T, <a class="citation_author_name" title="Navegar por nombre de Autor de Bailer-Jones, C. We aimed to characterize the size, position, circulation, and kinetic energy (KE) of LV main vortex cores in patients with nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM) and analyze their physiological correlates. We used digital processing of color-Doppler images to study flow evolution in 61 patients with NIDCM and 61 age-matched control subjects. Vortex features showed a characteristic biphasic temporal course during diastole. Because late filling contributed significantly to flow entrainment, vortex KE reached its maximum at the time of the peak A wave, storing 26 ± 20% of total KE delivered by inflow (range: 1–74%). Patients with NIDCM showed larger and stronger vortices than control subjects (circulation: 0.008 ± 0.007 vs. 0.006 ± 0.005 m2/s, respectively, P = 0.02; KE: 7 ± 8 vs. 5 ± 5 mJ/m, P = 0.04), even when corrected for LV size. This helped confining the filling jet in the dilated ventricle. The vortex Reynolds number was also higher in the NIDCM group. By multivariate analysis, vortex KE was related to the KE generated by inflow and to chamber short-axis diameter. In 21 patients studied head to head, Doppler measurements of circulation and KE closely correlated with phase-contract magnetic resonance values (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.82 and 0.76, respectively). Thus, the biphasic nature of filling determines normal vortex physiology. Vortex formation is exaggerated in patients with NIDCM due to chamber remodeling, and enlarged vortices are helpful for ameliorating convective pressure losses and facilitating transport. These findings can be accurately studied using ultrasound. intraventricular vortex dynamics may have an important role in cardiac hemodynamics. During early filling and atrial contraction, strong jets entering the left ventricle (LV) lead to the formation of vortex rings near the tips of the mitral valve leaflets. Due to the chiral configuration formed by the LV inflow tract, main chamber, and LV outflow tract (LVOT), these vortex rings evolve into large rotational flow structures that occupy a large fraction of the ventricle. Recent clinical data in patients with diastolic dysfunction indicate that LV vortices may facilitate flow from the left atrium to the LV apex (6). Also, vortical structures may increase ejection efficiency by conserving the momentum of blood built up during filling (1). Finally, vortices may contribute to blood mixing inside the ventricle, avoiding stasis (6, 19, 30, 32, 33, 40). Because impaired diastolic function, reduced mechanical efficiency, and risk of thrombosis characteristically concur in patients with nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM), addressing the physical properties of intraventricular vortices is particularly relevant in this condition. Recent ultrasound (1, 19, 29), computational (28), and phase-contrast magnetic resonance (PC-MR) (3, 6, 11–13) studies have described intraventricular flow characteristics in small numbers of patients with normal and dilated hearts. We hypothesized that significant physiological insights can be gained by comprehensively studying the temporal dynamics and correlates of intraventricular vortex development. We also hypothesized that impaired chamber properties in patients with NIDCM may be associated with modified vortex physiology. Therefore, the present study was designed to characterize the dynamics of vortex position, size, and strength along the cardiac cycle in patients with NIDCM and age-matched healthy control subjects. The physiological relevance of vortices relative to the global LV kinetic energy (KE) balance was also analyzed in detail. We used a custom-developed method that allowed us to measure two-dimensional (2-D) flow using conventional color-Doppler ultrasound (17). Flow ball devices have been used as teaching tools to provide visual real-time feedback of airflow during singing. This study aims at exploring static back pressure and ball height as function of flow for two devices, marketed as flow ball and floating ball game. Study Design. This is a comparative descriptive study. Methods. A flow-driven vocal tract simulator was used to investigate the aerodynamic properties of these two devices, testing them for four different ball sizes. The flow range investigated was between 0 and 0.5 L/s. Audio, flow, pressure, and ball height were recorded. Results. The flow pressure profiles for both tested devices were similar to those observed in previous studies on narrow tubes. For lifting the ball, both devices had a flow and a pressure threshold. The tested floating ball game required considerably higher back pressure for a given flow as compared with the flow ball. Conclusions. Both tested devices have similar effects on back pressure as straws of 3.7 and 3.0 mm in diameter for the flow ball and the floating ball game, respectively. One might argue that both devices could be used as tools for practicing semi-occluded vocal tract exercises, with the additional benefit of providing real-time visual feedback of airflow during phonation. The flow threshold, combined with the flow feedback, would increase awareness of flow, rather than of pressure, during exercises using a flow ball device.0362Filipa M.B., Lã, Wistbacka, Greta, Amarante Andrade, Pedro y Granqvist, Svante . Method: A double-blind randomized placebo-controlled trial assessing effects of the menstrual cycle and use of a combined oral contraceptive pill (OCP) on pitch control in singing is presented. Audio-electrolaryngograph recordings were made and blood samples were taken from 9 singers in each of the 3 phases of the menstrual cycle both under the placebo and the OCP conditions for a total of 6 months. Participants sang an exercise consisting of an ascending octave followed by a descending major triad, starting on pitches F4 and B4. Pitch control was assessed in terms of the octave's deviations from pure intonation and of the vibrato rate and extent. Results: Significant differences were found between the 3 phases of the cycle regarding octave size only for pitch F5 during OCP use. Significant vibrato rate differences between placebo and OCP conditions were found only for pitch F5. Conclusion: OCP use may have an effect on pitch control in singers. Possible explanations point to a complex interaction between hormonal milieu and pitch control, enhancing the need for longitudinal studies.0582Filipa M.B., Lã, Sundberg, Johan, Howard, David M., Sa-Couto, Pedro y Freitas, Adelaide . Twenty-two voice-related studies about twins have been reviewed in order to account for the average sample size of previous twin corpora, as well as their data collection method. Within a forensic-phonetic approach, the study of twins’ voices is particularly relevant, as these (especially monozygotic twins) represent the most extreme physical similarity in human beings. Distinguishing them is therefore a challenge in speaker identification.0342San Segundo Fernández, Eugenia . Empirical research has found that investors’ responses to market movements up and down are not symmetric. We show a new type of anomaly, statistical anomalies, resulting from decomposing asset returns into three independent time series: positive outliers (the good), negative outliers (the bad), and the remainder or Gaussian returns (the usual). Using a sample consisting of 49 equalweighted US industrial portfolios with daily and monthly frequencies from 1969 to 2020, we find evidence that the good-usual-bad factor model exhibits fewer anomalies, better explanatory power, and greater robustness than the “magnificent seven” factors model. Our results are relevant to investors trading at less than monthly frequencies.0382González-Sánchez, Mariano . To analyze the effects of this omission, in the present study, we define the behavior of prices and volume via stochastic processes subordinated to the time elapsing between two consecutive transactions in the market. Using simulated data and market data from companies of different sizes and capitalization levels, we compare the results of measuring risk using prices compared to using both prices and volumes. The results indicate that traditional measures of market risk behave inversely to the degree of liquidity of the asset, thereby underestimating the risk of liquid assets and overestimating the risk of less liquid assets.0582González-Sánchez, Mariano, Ibáñez Jiménez, Eva M. y Segovia San Juan, Ana I. . The tail probability approximation obtained is very accurate even for small sample sizes. In the approximations we consider that the observations follow a distribution close to the normal, specifically, a scale contaminated normal model. To obtain the approximations we transform the original observations into a new ones, which can be considered independent if a linearized variogram can be accepted as model for them. To check this, a goodness of fit test for a variogram model is defined in the last part of the paper.0592García Pérez, Alfonso . Ranges of
densities within the interval of reduced de Broglie wavelengths 0.2 * 0.8 B ≤ λ ≤ have been
analyzed using Monte Carlo simulations with Cao-Berne propagator. Energies, pressures, and
structural quantities (pair radial correlation functions, centroid structure factors, and Steinhardt
order parameters) have been computed. Also, applications of the Einstein crystal technique (J.
Chem. Phys. 126, 164508 (2007)) have been made to compute the free energies of the fcc and
hcp solids. Some technical points related to the latter technique are discussed, and it is shown
that these calculations produce consistent results with increasing sample sizes. The fluid-solid
(fcc and hcp) equilibria have been studied, thus completing prior work by this author on the
fluid-fcc equilibrium. Within the accuracy attained no significant differences between the relative
stabilities of the fcc and hcp lattices have been detected. The bcc case stands apart from the other
two lattices, as the simulations lead either to irregular lattices (two types) that keep some traces
of bcc-memory, or to spontaneous transitions to hcp-like lattices. The latter transitions make
manifestly clear the potential repercussions that the quantum hard-sphere behavior can have on
solid-solid equilibria at low temperatures in real systems (e.g. helium).

The first-order energy potential for an obstacle on that lattice corresponds to the Newtonian potential associated with the metric, while the finite-size corrections are described by a curved extension of the conformal field theory predictions, including a suitable boundary term. We show that for weak deformations of the Minkowski metric, Casimir forces measured by a local observer at the boundary are universal. We provide numerical evidence for our results on a variety of (1+1)D deformations: Minkowski, Rindler, anti–de Sitter (the so-called rainbow system), and sinusoidal metrics. Moreover, we show that interactions do not preclude our conclusions, exemplifying this with the deformed Heisenberg chain.0242Mula, Begoña, Santalla, Silvia N. y Rodríguez-Laguna, Javier . Sinnott’s Complex Postformal Thought Questionnaire (PFTQ) is one of the most widely used measures of this construct and thus, the main aim of this study was to translate a Spanish version of the PFTQ and to validate it using a sample of 1093 subjects aged from 18 to 71 years. A cross-validation study was carried out and measurement invariance was analyzed by gender and across age groups: emerging adults, 18-29 years; established adults, 30-45 years; and middle-aged adults, 46-60 years. Furthermore, evidence of validity was assessed relative to cognitive and personality measures (i.e.: mindfulness, grit, resilience, intolerance of uncertainty, conscientiousness, metacognition and learning strategies), as was the developmental pattern of the PFTQ. In the cross-validation study, both the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses indicated it was appropriate to consider a unidimensional structure. Likewise, the PFTQ exhibited good psychometric properties (α = .84; Ω = .83), and there was reasonable evidence of strict invariance by gender and across age groups. Moreover, the PFTQ was significantly and positively related to metacognition, learning strategies, mindfulness, conscientiousness, resilience and grit, whereas it was significantly and negatively related to intolerance of uncertainty, albeit to a lesser extent. Finally, a developmental progression of the PFTQ was observed during adulthood, with significant differences observed between the latent means of the three age groups, which was associated with moderate effect sizes between the emerging and the established or middle-age adult groups (d = 0.28 and d = 0.37, respectively). By contrast, a very small and practically negligible effect size was detected between the established and middle-aged adult groups (d = 0.09). Relativistic operations would appear to underlie psychosocial development in established adulthood, when they are most needed. Overall, the Spanish version of the PFTQ showed good psychometric properties and validity evidence of its utility to studying adult thinking.0332Contreras Felipe, Antonio, Suárez-Falcón, Juan C., Caprara, Mariagiovanna y et al. . This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to (a) determine the effect of exercise-based CR on heart-rate-derived indices associated with cardiac parasympathetic modulation in resting and post-exercise conditions in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients and (b) identify the possible moderator variables of the effect of exercise-based CR on parasympathetic modulation. Methods We searched CENTRAL and Web of Science up to November 2018 for the following terms: adult CAD patients, controlled exercise-based CR interventions and parasympathetic modulation measured in resting (vagal-related heart rate variability [HRV] indices of the root mean square of the differences in successive in RR interval [RMSSD] and high frequency [HF]) and post-exercise (heart rate recovery [HRR]) pre- and post-intervention. We estimated a random-effects model of standardised mean difference (SMD) and mean difference (MD) for vagal-related HRV indices and HRR, respectively. We assessed the influence of categorical and continuous variables. Results The overall effect size showed significant differences in RMSSD (SMD+ = 0.30; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.12–0.49) and HRR (MD+ = 5.35; 95% CI = 4.08–6.61 bpm) in favour of the exercise-based CR group. The overall effect size showed no differences in HF between groups (SMD+ = 0.14; 95% CI, −0.12–0.40). Heterogeneity analyses reached statistical significance, with high heterogeneity for HF (p < 0.001; I2 = 70%) and HRR (p < 0.001; I2 = 85%). Analysis of the moderator variables showed that the effect on HRR is greater in young patients (p = 0.008) and patients treated with percutaneous intervention (p = 0.020). Conclusions Exercise-based CR improves the post-exercise parasympathetic function, with greater effects in younger CAD patients and in those who were revascularised with percutaneous intervention. The effects on resting parasympathetic function are more controversial due to methodological inconsistencies in measuring HRV, with the use of RMSSD recommended instead of HF because its results show higher consistency. Future studies involving women, focusing on methodological issues, and performing other training methods are needed to increase our knowledge about this topic.0342Manresa-Rocamora, Agustín, Ribeiro, Fernando, Sarabia, José Manuel, Íbias, Javier, Oliveira, Nórton Luís, Vera-García, Francisco José y Moya-Ramón, Manuel . This research growth yields substantial advancements in tsunami knowledge. Among these advancements is the “Paleotsunami” research that has marked particular progress on the reconstruction of the tsunami history of a region. As an integration of the historical documentation available in the Mediterranean and the Gulf of Cadiz areas, geological and geoarchaeological records provide the insights to define the occurrence, characteristics, and impact of tsunamis of the past. Here, we present the recent advancements done for both the onshore and offshore realms. As for the onshore, we discuss case studies dealing with recent high-resolution works based on: a) direct push in situ sensing techniques, applied to identification and characterization of typical paleotsunami deposits features; b) combined XRF-X-CT approach, implemented for the identification of fine-scale sedimentary structures useful for the definition of the causative flow dynamics; c) the geoarchaeological “new field” contribution, with the development of specific diagnostic criteria in search for tsunami impact traces in archaeological strata; d) comparison of multiple dating methods and of different modeling codes for the definition of the potential source for the displacement of boulders of exceptional dimension, identified by 3D size calculation. As for the offshore advancements, we present case studies focusing on the recognition of tsunami deposits and their sedimentary traces in the geological record from the nearshore, thanks to diver-operated coring equipment, down to the continental slope, by means of vibracorer and long gravity core sampling in deeper areas. The examples provided show a multiproxy approach with a high potential of retrieving a complete record of paleotsunami traces at least during the Holocene. This is based on the combination of multidisciplinary approaches including X-ray imaging, high-resolution measurement of physical properties, Xray fluorescence data, grain-size analysis, micropaleontology, palynological content, isotopic and optically stimulated luminescence dating methods.03162Martini, de P.M., Bruins, H.J., Feist, L., Goodman Tchernov, B.N., Hadler, H., Lario, Javier, Mastronuzzi, G., Obrocki, L., Pantosti, D., Paris, R., Reicherter, K., Smedile, A. y Vött, A. . Non-stellar content and source classificationbibliuned:95-Lmsarro-0013Context. As part of the third Gaia Data Release, we present the contributions of the non-stellar and classifcation modules from the eighth coordination unit (CU8) of the Data Processing and Analysis Consortium, which is responsible for the determination of source astrophysical parameters using Gaia data. This is the third in a series of three papers describing the work done within CU8 for this release. Aims. For each of the five relevant modules from CU8, we summarise their objectives, the methods they employ, their performance, and the results they produce for Gaia DR3. We further advise how to use these data products and highlight some limitations. Methods. The Discrete Source Classier (DSC) module provides classification probabilities associated with five types of sources: quasars, galaxies, stars, white dwarfs, and physical binary stars. A subset of these sources are processed by the Outlier Analysis (OA) module, which performs an unsupervised clustering analysis, and then associates labels with the clusters to complement the DSC classfication. The Quasi Stellar Object Classifier (QSOC) and the Unresolved Galaxy Classfier (UGC) determine the redshifts of the sources classfied as quasar and galaxy by the DSC module. Finally, the Total Galactic Extinction (TGE) module uses the extinctions of individual stars determined by another CU8 module to determine the asymptotic extinction along all lines of sight for Galactic latitudes |b| > 5◦. Results. Gaia DR3 includes 1591 million sources with DSC classications; 56 million sources to which the OA clustering is applied; 1.4 million sources with redshift estimates from UGC; 6.4 million sources with QSOC redshift; and 3.1 million level 9 HEALPixes of size 0.013 deg2 where the extinction is evaluated by TGE. Conclusions. Validation shows that results are in good agreement with values from external catalogues; for example 90% of the QSOC redshifts have absolute error lower than 0.1 for sources with empty warning flags, while UGC redshifts have a mean error of 0.008 ± 0.037 if evaluated on a clean set of spectra. An internal validation of the OA results further shows that 30 million sources are located in high confidence regions of the clustering map.0242Delchambre, L., Bailer-Jones, C.A.L., Bellas-Velidis, I. y Sarro Baro, Luis Manuel . Design: A randomized, crossover, interventional pilot trial. Setting: Departments of Neurology and Rehabilitation from a university general hospital. Participants: Stroke survivors with post-stroke nonfluent aphasia. Interventions: Patients randomized to group 1 had treatment with Melodic Intonation Therapy first (12 sessions over six weeks) followed by no treatment; the patients in group 2 started active treatment between three and six months after their inclusion in the study, serving as waiting list controls for the first phase. Main measures: The Communicative Activity Log (CAL) questionnaire and the Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Examination (BDAE) were evaluated at baseline, and at six and 12 weeks. Results: Twenty patients were included. Four of the patients allocated to group 2 crossed over to group 1, receiving the treatment at first. Intention-to-treat analysis: after adjustment for baseline scores, the mean difference in the CAL evaluation from baseline in the treated group was 8.5 points (95% confidence interval (CI), 0.11–17.0; P = .043), with no significant change in any of the BDAE sections. Per-protocol analysis showed similar results with a clear treatment effect (P = .043) on the CAL. Conclusion: Melodic Intonation Therapy might have a positive effect on the communication skills of stroke survivors with nonfluent aphasia as measured by the CAL questionnaire. A full-scale trial with at least 27 patients per group is necessary to confirm these results.0242Haro-Martínez, Ana M., Lubrini, Genny, Madero-Jarabo, Rosario, Díez-Tejedor, Exuperio y Fuentes, Blanca . Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and lipid peroxidation (LPO) was evaluated after exposures for 24 h and 96 h to 50, 500, and 3000 μg/L. GOs accumulated in the gut of C. riparius and disturbed its antioxidant metabolism. We suggest that all types of GO exposure can upregulate of SOD. Moreover, both lGO and mlGO treatments caused LPO damage in C. riparius in comparison to sGO, proving its favourable lateral size impact in this organism. Our results indicate that GOs could accumulate and induce significant oxidative stress on C. riparius. This work shows new information about the potential oxidative stress of these NMs in aquatic organisms.0312Martín, Folgar, Raquel, Esteban Arranz, Adrián, Negri, Viviana y Morales, Mónica . Data from 1,401 students (73.4% women) attending an online University in Spain were collected before the beginning and during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of a random intercept cross-lagged panel model revealed that the strongest relationships in terms of effect size occurred at the trait level, in which participants who had a general higher positivity over time were also those who reported, in general, higher self-efficacy, higher positive affect, and lower negative affect than their counterparts. At the within-person level, while controlling for stable (trait-like) individual differences, higher than usual levels (state-like) of positivity in January 2020 predicted higher than usual levels of emotional self-efficacy beliefs and lower than usual levels of negative affect in June 2020. During the same transition, higher than usual levels of negative affect in January 2020 predicted lower than usual levels of emotional self-efficacy in June 2020. Moreover, higher than usual levels of self-efficacy in June 2020 predicted higher than usual levels of positivity in September 2020. We did not find any predictive effect for positive affect. The results pointed to the protective role of both positivity and regulatory emotional self-efficacy beliefs mostly against negative affect, corroborating previous findings suggesting a virtuous circle of reciprocal influence between positivity and regulatory emotional self-efficacy. The practical implications of these findings are discussed.0272Caprara, Mariagiovanna, Zuffianò, Antonio, Contreras Felipe, Antonio y et al. . After examining the main findings in the literature on the subject, the article analyses the data from the Eurostat Community Innovation Survey (CIS2012), in Germany, and conducts a quantitative study associating coopetition and innovation with a view to observing how coopetitive companies perform in the field of innovation and what characteristics they have. Amongst other findings, the results yield a certain relationship between international coopetition and cooperation with international clients in the public sector, and also governments and international universities, while at the same time showing less interest in collaborating with private partners when coopeting on a domestic level. The size of the firm, the location of the partners or the percentage of employees with a university degree, are just some of the factors that are incorporated into the analysis.0282Navío Marco, Julio, Bujidos Casado, María y Rodrigo Moya, Beatriz . As coopetition is usually studied from an inter-company perspective, this work looks in detail at the “ad intra” dynamics of the coopeting companies to understand how they adjust their organisation or implement organisational innovation to successfully adopt this original approach. Design/methodology/approach Using Eurostat data (CIS2014), this research offers a quantitative study on coopeting companies, relating coopetition to organisational innovation. The analysis technique used in this study is logistic regression with maximum likelihood estimation, where the dependent variable is the location of the coopeting companies. Findings The findings highlight specific characteristics and differences according to whether a company coopetes domestically or in other more complex geographic environments. It also incorporates variables into the analysis such as the use of price marketing, employee training and company size. Originality/value Our study provides insights into the relationship between coopetition and organisational innovation, in a research field that usually focuses on inter-company analysis. Several little-studied factors are included in the analysis, such as the role of employee qualifications and differences in coopetition in different geographic areas. We observe that, in certain locations, coopetition could be related to a “market entry” effect.0362Navío Marco, Julio, Ibar Alonso, Raquel y Bujidos Casado, María . Rapid extraction of carotenoids, capsaicinoids, and tocopherols was optimized; the best conditions included ethanol as the extractant, an extraction time of 10 min in an ultrasonic bath, and a sample size of 0.1 g. The procedure provided good precision with a relative standard deviation of 1.2% for four samples. Molecular absorption spectra were obtained from 250 to 600 nm and fluorescence excitation and emission spectra were collected from 200 to 295 nm and 300 to 400 nm, respectively. Forty-eight “Pimentón de La Vera” paprika samples and 19 samples from other origins were characterized. A principal component analysis model was constructed from the absorption spectra and clustering was obtained based on the origin. Parallel factor analysis was performed on the fluorescence data and better characterization of the origin was obtained.0312Monago Maraña, Olga, Bartolomé García, Teresa de Jesús, Galeano Díaz, Teresa y Kostrzewa-Rutkowska, Z. . TSE reduces acquisition time by acquiring several echoes within each TR, at the cost of introducing an exponential weighting in the k-space that leads to a certain image blurring. This is particularly important for short-T2 structures, which can even disappear if their size in the phase encoding direction is comparable to the degree of blurring. This article suggests the use of a combination of Half Fourier (HF) and segmented (multishot) TSE (sHF-TSE) to recover the original resolution of the SE images. The improved symmetry of the dataset achieved by HF reconstruction is used to increase the resolution of the TSE images. The proposed combination, available in most clinical scanners, reduces the blurring artifact inherent to the TSE sequence without increasing the scan time or the number of acquisitions, but at the cost of a slight reduction of the signal-to-noise ratios (SNR). Qualitative and quantitative results are presented using both numerical simulation and imaging. Significant edge enhancement has been achieved for structures with short T2, (narrowing of the full width at half maximum [FWHM] up to 45%). The proposed sequence is more sensitive to movement artifacts but has proven to be superior to the conventional TSE for imaging static structures.0352Santa Marta Pastrana, Cristina, Lafuente, Javier, Vaquero, Juan José, Garcia-Barreno, Pedro y Desco, Manuel . The selected sample is well suited to the economic reality of that Autonomous Community, considering the size of the population and the chosen confidence intervals and probabilities. The following data-collection techniques were used: surveys, open questions, closed questions, and dichotomous questions. Qualitative Focus-Group techniques were chosen, to contrast the information and to validate its reliability, in view of the training criteria and the hierarchical position of the interviewees working for firms with experience in the Construction Sector. Participants included risk-prevention experts from the public administrations. The results point to difficulties with the integration of Occupational Risk Prevention (ORP) in the Management Systems of SMEs in the Spanish construction sector, outside the corporate structure of the firm.0392Segarra Cañamares, M., <a class="citation_author_name" title="Navegar por nombre de Autor de Villena Escribano, B. A meta-analytic study on computational methodsbibliuned:DptoMCC-FPSI-Articulos-Jamartinez-0009In the last two decades, empirical evidence has shown that personality traits could be related to the characteristics of written language. This study describes a meta-analysis that synthesizes 23 independent estimates of the correlations between the Big Five major personality traits, and some computationally obtained indicators from written language. The results show significant combined estimates of the correlations, albeit small to moderate according to Cohen’s conventions to interpret effect sizes, for the five traits (between r = 0.26 for agreeableness and neuroticism, and 0.30 for openness). These estimates are moderated by the type of information in the texts, the use of prediction mechanisms, and the source of publication of the primary studies. Generally, the same effective moderators operate for the five traits. It is concluded that written language analyzed through computational methods could be used to extract relevant information of personality. But further research is still needed to consider it as predictive or explanatory tool for individual differences.0312Moreno, José David, Martínez-Huertas, José Ángel, Olmos, Ricardo, Jorge-Botana, Guillermo y Botella, Juan . For all the cases examined, two innovations are introduced in the solar subsystem, compared to other similar studies. Firstly, the heat transfer fluid in the receiver is either a pressurised gas or a supercritical fluid. Secondly, the receiver is composed of compact structures performing as absorber panels, arranged in a radial configuration. The investigation considers different supercritical CO2 recompression cycles of 50 MWe, including a novel proposal of a directly coupled cycle with heat input downstream of the turbine. Furthermore, the study evaluates different heat transfer fluids in the receiver, specifically CO2, N2, and He, concluding that the former is preferred due to its better thermal performance. The main results show that an increase in the receiver inlet pressure yields to a reduction in its size, favouring the thermal efficiency but penalising the optical efficiency of the solar field. Therefore, optimal working pressures may exist for each configuration, depending on the operating temperature. When comparing the optimal configurations, it is observed that the plant based on the intercooling cycle demonstrates the highest overall efficiency, reaching 32.05%. At last, an economic analysis is conducted to assess the viability of the identified optimal configurations. In this regard, the plant based on the partial-cooling cycle exhibits the lowest levelised cost of electricity at 0.15 $/kWh. This is primarily due to its lower investment cost. The innovative directly coupled cycle follows closely with a cost of 0.17 $/kWh, driven by its high electricity production resulting from its low self-consumption.0472Montes, M.J., Guedez, R., Linares, J.I. y Reyes-Belmonte, M.A.
y fracaso escolar, analfabetismo y trabajo
This article establishes a comparison between,
on the one hand, the springboard of
a public system for childhood protection in
Morocco, particularly in Tanger. On the other,
a social services’ system developed in Spain
as a best practices experience with infants
and teenagers in social risk.
The Moroccan Government, on its 2006-
2015 Action Plan for Childhood, holds the
responsibility of designing an attention and
protection system on every medium and big
size city through childhood protection units.
Besides the existent severe situations of risk
(school failure and abandonment, illiteracy,
child work…), it is the pressure from other
countries that contributes to the implementation
of these public policies, as an strategy
for preventing irregular child migration.
Tanger, as an strategic border town, has
been chosen in particular in this article
because there are many children waiting on
its streets for the opportunity to migrate.
That’s why institutions and partnerships in
Tanger work together to develop an attention
and protection system for an extremely
vulnerable group.06552López Gallego, David and García Andrés, Eva . Recent work, however, suggests that intergroup contact can undermine support for social change towards greater equality, especially among disadvantaged group members. Using a large and heterogeneous dataset (12,997 individuals from 69 countries), we demonstrate that intergroup contact and support for social change towards greater equality are positively associated among members of advantaged groups (ethnic majorities and cis-heterosexuals) but negatively associated among disadvantaged groups (ethnic minorities and sexual and gender minorities). Specificationcurve analysis revealed important variation in the size—and at times, direction—of correlations, depending on how contact and support for social change were measured. This allowed us to identify one type of support for change—willingness to work in solidarity— that is positively associated with intergroup contact among both advantaged and disadvantaged group members.0412Hässler, Tabea, Ullrich, Johannes, Bernardino, Michelle, Shnabel, Nurit, Sainz, Mario y et al. . Thus, if we isolate this subsystem from its surroundings, we may be able to extract work applying unitary transformations, up to a maximal amount which is called ergotropy. Once this work has been extracted, the subsystem will still contain some bound energy above its local GS, which can provide valuable information about the entanglement structure. We show that the bound energy for half a free fermionic chain decays as the square of the entanglement entropy divided by the chain length, thus approaching zero for large system sizes, and we conjecture that this relation holds for all one-dimensional critical states.0222Mula, Begoña, Fernández, Eva M., Alvarellos, José E., Fernández, Julio J., García-Aldea, David, Santalla, Silvia N. y Rodríguez-Laguna, Javier . Inbuilt rubric is a recent Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) method that implements rubrics in an artificially-generated semantic space. It was compared with classical LSA’s cosine-based methods assessing knowledge in a within-subjects design regarding two validation sources: a comparison with the results of rubric scores and multiple-choice tests, and the sensitivity of predicting the academic level of the test-taker. Results showed a higher reliability for inbuilt rubric (from Pearson correlation coefficient .81 to .49) over the classical LSA method (from .61 to .34) and a higher sensitivity using binary logistic regressions and effect sizes to predict academic level. It is concluded that inbuilt rubric has a qualitatively higher reliability and validity than classical LSA methods in a way that is complementary to models based on semantic networks. Thus, it is concluded that new Automated Summary Evaluation approaches such as the inbuilt rubric method can be practical in terms of reliability and efficiency, and, thus, they can offer an affordable and valuable form of knowledge assessment in different educational levels.0322Martínez-Huertas, José Ángel, Jastrzebska, Olga, Olmos, Ricardo y León, Jose A. . In this work we record and assign in detail the infrared (IR) spectrum of the benzylic amide [2]catenane, a complex molecular solid displaying crimped mechanical bonds like the links of a chain. In spite of the large size of the unit cell, we calculate all the vibrational modes of the catenane crystal using quantum first-principles calculations. The activity of each mode is also evaluated using the Born effective charges approach and a theoretical spectrum is constructed for comparison purposes. We find a remarkable agreement between the calculations and the experimental results without the need to apply any further empirical correction or fitting to the eigenfrequencies. A detailed description in terms of the usual internal coordinates is provided for over 1000 normal modes. This thorough analysis allows us to perform the complete assignment of the spectrum, revealing the nature of the most active modes responsible for the IR features. Finally, we compare the obtained results with those of Raman spectroscopy, studying the effects of the rule of mutual exclusion in vibrational spectroscopy according to the different levels of molecular symmetry embedded in this mechanically interlocked molecular compound.0322Romero-Muñiz, Carlos, Paredes-Roibás, Denís, Hernanz, Antonio y Gavira-Vallejo, José María . One of the main challenges, included in the European Strategy 2014–2020, is to improve the application of existing health and safety regulations, one of the strategic objectives being to help small and medium-sized companies to better comply with safety regulations and health. This study focuses on the Construction Sector, considered one of the economic activities with the highest accident rate, hardship and danger. Its objective, based on the regulatory framework that regulates health and safety in the Sector, is to know the effectiveness of the main management tool that construction works have, the Health and Safety Plan. In this study, 3600 Health and Safety Plans were analyzed in the Autonomous Community of Castile-La Mancha, Spain. The results show that the Health and Safety Plans are documents that present great deficiencies and that do not comply with the regulatory requirements, putting at risk the management of prevention in the workplace and therefore the health and safety of its workers.0442González García, María de las Nieves, Segarra Cañamares, M., <a class="citation_author_name" title="Navegar por nombre de Autor de Villena Escribano, B. The observed reactivity was mainly attributed to the higher basicity of the Me/TaMCF but also the texture of the samples. The Me/TaMCF silicas showed higher Brønsted basicity than the Nb ones as indicated by the stronger interaction between alkali metals and Ta in the UV–vis and the test reaction experiments. On the other hand, the basicity of Me/TaMCF together the reactivity degree and steric hindrance of the starting acetonitriles are key factors influencing the reaction selectivity. In conclusion, the basicity of the samples plays an important role initiating the reaction by activation of nucleophile but also a compromise between alkaline cation size and basicity is required.0252Smuszkiewicza, Agata, López-Sanza, Jesús, Sobczakb, Izabela, Martín-Aranda, Rosa M., Ziolekb, Maria y Pérez-Mayoral, Elena . S. Eliot = Design and rhythm in T. S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land”bibliuned:revistaRHYTHMICA-2012-10-7010En este artículo se ofrece un detallado análisis estadístico
de los versos de uno de los más prestigiosos poemas del
siglo XX, The Waste Land de T. S. Eliot.
This article offers a detailed statistical analysis of
the lines in one of the twentieth century’s most infl uential poems,
T. S. Eliot’s The Waste Land. It argues that the poem should be
classified as accentual free verse because the rhythms created by
the number and disposition of stress peaks, or beats, in its lines
are far more regular than those of English prose. The article shows
that the poem is polymetric, like the English odes of earlier centuries,
but Eliot’s polymetry is compositional rather than systematic.
Two line-lengths (accentual templates) account for more than 70
per cent of the lines in the poem, which divides into twenty-four
rhythmic sequences marked by design shift, a change of template
and/or correspondence rules (the size of the intervals between
beats).04762Duffell, Martin J. . In this work, we aimto map functional areas in Spain from four days corresponding to different phases of thedisease. For that goal, mobile phone data provided by Spanish Statistical National Institute(INE) has been used due to its value and potential to provide constantly updatedinformation of mobility at almost-real time. The methodology consists of a network analysisover an origin-destination matrix to obtain modularity values for 3214 population cellsprovided by the INE. These values were then used to cluster the cells into functional areas. The results show how different confinement and mobility restriction policies influence theamount, size and shape of the functional areas, and therefore, they affect access to servicesor jobs.0452Osorio-Arjona, Joaquín, Ruiz Santacruz, Javier Sebastián y Obras-Loscertales Sampériz, Julia de las . A financiers and SMEs qualitative approachbibliuned:DptoEA-FECO-Articulos-Mcuesta-0003Transitioning to a circular economy (CE) particularly challenges small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and a deeper understanding of CE financial barriers is needed. We draw on SME and financiers’ views to qualitatively study the risks associated with CE, how such risks limit access to financial resources and how financial institutions perceive those risks. We find that transitioning to a circular economy entails regulatory, cultural and market risks and that CE business success does not depend solely on SME resources or capabilities. Contributions include combining business model perspectives with transition theories and showing that new circular business models entail major reforms to political, regulatory, and market structures, including financial markets. From a practical perspective, to accelerate CE transition, we recommend reducing fragmentation, uncertainty and incoherence in regulation of the remodeling of information and risk assessment systems and new co-financing mechanisms and alternative instruments such as blended finance or “circular finance.”0332Cuesta-González, Marta de la y Morales-García, Manuel .
