Mothers played a particularly important role in this ‘educational shift’. Even though under Francoism legislation and moral habits implied female subordination in virtually all spheres of life, many of those mothers were willing and able to promote their children's education irrespective of their gender. Making use of oral history, the article offers an account of how mothers of the Spanish baby boom generation entered into marriage, organised their daily lives at home and took decisions regarding their children's welfare and education. Today in their old age, these women deserve to be considered important agents of the remarkable social change Spain has experienced during the last decades.0332Chuliá, Elisa . The lack of this mechanism explains the problems of knowledge driven systems to effectively perform tasks as question answering and machine reading. One of the biggest bottlenecks is the automatic knowledge acquisition problem. In the actual stage of development, it seems obvious that only semisupervised or unsupervised techniques can scale to deal with large corpora of natural language like the Web. The trend has evolved from populating a predefined ontology to expressing knowledge through either unconstrained relations or propositions. The arrival of new deep language processing technologies let us think that we can annotate large collections of text with accurate predicates that can be used to extracting knowledge from text without tying it to any predefined logical schema. On the other hand, it is not clear which tasks can harness this knowledge and how it can be done. This master’s thesis proposes a new method of knowledge capture and textual inference based on three cornerstones: (1) First, we develop a procedure to turn plain text into a graph based representation taking advantage of existing tools. (2) Second, we develop a proposition extraction system. (3) Lastly, we study an unsupervised method for correction of appositive dependencies, as an example of the textual inferences that the generated proposition store enables. In addition, we generate two useful resources for future tasks of natural language processing: A corpus of 7 million documents represented as semantically enriched graphs and a proposition store of semantic classes with 8 million instances of entity-class relations.0Doctoral Thesis2342Cabaleiro Barciela, Bernardo. Integration of solar energy to the steam turbine of a combined cycle gives some advantages: the first one is the fuel saving due to the solar contribution and, additionally, the second one is that this contribution takes place especially in highly insolated periods with high ambient temperatures, when conventional combined cycles decrease their power rate and work with decreased efficiency. Previous works showed the convenience of ISCC using PTC and direct steam generation in locations with severe climatology. Besides, LFR technology is currently considered as a good option for reducing the cost of concentrating solar power. Thus, in the present work both concentrating technologies are studied and compared. Solar contribution is only used for evaporating water, increasing the production of the high pressure level of the steam generator. Two locations, Almeria and Las Vegas, are selected for the annual analyses. Results show that the proposed evaporative configurations increase the annual performance. Also, the thermal contribution is higher with PTC, but LFR may improve the economic feasibility of the plant.0472Rovira, Antonio, Barbero, Rubén, Montes, María José, Abbas, Rubén y Varela, Fernando . Many studies have analyzed how family character can influence the internationalization process of family businesses, and the results obtained have not been conclusive. Nevertheless, previous research has not sufficiently addressed the influence that the moment of initiation of the internationalization process has on the levels of internationalization achieved. Based on the behavioral agency model, the unique set of business resources (familiness), and the socioemotional wealth (SEW) perspective, this study examines, the internationalization intensity of family and nonfamily businesses in two defined groups (early internationalization and internationalization from the local market). Likewise, the effect that the entry of the second generation has on the internationalization of these companies is analyzed. To perform this analysis, Tobit regression models are estimated from a data set of panel data from the Spanish Survey on Business Strategies for small and medium-sized Spanish family businesses from 2005 to 2016, finding that family ownership and management have a negative influence on the intensity of exports, regardless of the path of internationalization followed, and that the entry of new generations has a positive relationship with the level of internationalization of these businesses. Finally, implications of the findings for research and management are discussed.0322Varas-Fuente, Oscar Javier, Arguedas-Sanz, Raquel y Rodrigo-Moya, Beatriz . Italian and Spanish families in a comparative perspectivebibliuned:23034This article analyses family changes in Italy and Spain from 1960 to 1990 and contrasts them with four Central/Northern European countries. Italy and Spain show extremely rapid family changes, which nevertheless do not lead to a convergence between southern and central/northern families. The particularities of the southern family model are a high degree of cross-generational cohabitation, a high frequency of social contacts and help within kinship, a strong institutionalization of marriage, a low female employment rate in the formal labour market, a low fertility rate, and widespread family and child-oriented attitudes. In addition, relations between generations are seen more in terms of obligations than in terms of individual choice. We conclude that the specific economic situation, the particularities of social policies and the family culture in Italy and Spain are important barriers for a further individualization of family relations in these societies. The aim of this paper is to analyse Italy and Spain as representatives of a Mediterranean type of society. The question whether such a type exists with respect to family changes will be explored here. For this purpose we use a comparative perspective. Our assumption is that the division of labour between state, family, labour market and church in Mediterranean countries is a specific one. The societal configuration in the South will be analysed from the perspective of the family. First, we will describe differences in demography and family among countries as well as cultural differences observed by opinion surveys. Second, we will develop some hypotheses in order to explain the southern family characteristics, their interrelations and their relation to other institutions. To this end, we will concentrate on the possible effects that southern modernization processes, employment and unemployment trends, family laws, social policies and some historical and cultural peculiarities in Italy and Spain have on family patterns. In this paper the hypotheses will be put forward only in a preliminary way, without testing them. The socio-economic crisis that has affected all European countries since the mid-seventies has gradually produced a collective loss of faith in the possibility of uninterrupted economic growth and disillusion concerning the programmes and promises of the welfare society. As a result of the crisis, the institutional framework began to change and the social division of responsibilities among the various institutional spheres, state, market and family, had to (and still has to) be re-negotiated (Flora 1985). In the new social and economic context, the interest in the family in the analysis of western-welfare society has become wider. From a cross-national perspective it is often assumed that southern welfare states have a different division of labour between state, market and family than other Northern/Central European societies (Ferrera 1994). Studies on this field show that, despite the development of the welfare state, the family and the ‘serving work’ (Balbo 1983) carried out by women in southern welfare societies have continued to constitute an indispensable resource for the satisfaction of many basic needs. The changing age structure of the population, the decreasing fertility rate and the emerging female employment patterns in Italy and Spain may affect the southern division of labour in an important way. While analysts are emphasizing the importance of the family for the satisfaction of many basic needs in this welfare state crisis period, the most “family-oriented” countries are moving towards a more individualistic society? Is this a contradiction? First of all, it needs to be determined to what extent the family is changing in the South and therefore we will give a general overview on these changes in the European context. Since 1965, in most European countries - with varying intensity and timing - a reduction in the fertility rate and an increase in the divorce rate has taken place. These new family behaviours have been related to the gradual diffusion of cohabitation and to the increase in births out of wedlock. During the 1970s these family changes became more radical in Scandinavia and more widespread in Central Europe, but they remained weak in Southern Europe. What was really new were the relations between sexes and generations. Equal opportunities became an important issue in public life (Roussel 1992), and changes in family roles also occurred. More women have entered the labour market, in a wider range of occupations and for a longer period than at any other time since the Industrial Revolution (Rapoport 1989).010582Jurado Guerrero, Teresa y Naldini, Manuela . Moodle is a free source LMS with more than 63 million users, which makes it the most used LMS around the world. Like some other LMS, the stated philosophy of Moodle includes a constructivist and social constructionist approach to education, emphasizing that learners (and not just teachers) can contribute to the educational experience. This is the web 2.0 applied to education. Easy Java Simulations (EJS) is an authoring tool written in Java that helps to create interactive simulations in Java, mainly for teaching and learning purposes. By means of this tool, instructors can easily create virtual and/or (if they also use the appropriate additional software) remote laboratories. While virtual laboratories are based on mathematical models, remote ones use real equipment and so, the experiments are carried out in the reality. Virtual and remote laboratories (created with EJS, for example) as well as LMS (Moodle, for example) offer different but fundamental educational tools to both teachers and students. Since these resources are complementary (and not mutually exclusive), e-learning programs should offer both kinds of tools to be considered a complete experience for students. However, the integration between these two different resources is still an open issue that must be addressed. This thesis gathers together the two previous resources and provides the necessary tools and methodology for developing web experimentation portals (such as UNEDLabs, also presented here) that can offer e-learning programs based on: 1) experimentation (thanks to the use of the virtual and remote laboratories) and 2) theory documentation provision, social interactivity and easy management (thanks to the use of a LMS). Moreover, the presented tools and methodology allow people not specialized in these particular topics (such as they are the vast majority of the teachers) to easily create these kind of experimentation portals and populate them with virtual and/or remote laboratories (VRLs). Four new Moodle plug-ins facilitate this task: EJSApp, EJSApp Booking System, EJSApp Files Browser and EJSApp Collab Sessions. Nowadays, UNEDLabs holds two courses (among others); one in Control Engineering and another one in Physics. Both of them offer three experiments which are all available in the two possible versions: virtual and remote. The Physics course is still growing and new experiments are added every year. Right now, the three available ones are a motorized rotatory laser for studying the light in isotropic media, a motorized optical bench for determining the focal length of a thin lens, and an experiment with three springs and related to Hookes law. Thanks to the tools presented in this work, not only all the EJS laboratories in UNEDLabs are added and integrated into the Moodle web portal in a very easy and natural way, but they also acquire several special functionalities they lack when they are used outside this LMS. The first of these functionalities is the capability of saving and/or loading files to/from the private files repository in Moodle. The second one is the possibility to create collaborative experimental sessions with other users of Moodle who are enrolled to the course the EJS lab belongs to. The third one is an automatic integration with a booking system specifically designed for managing users access to the remote laboratories. Finally, EJS labs in Moodle can be administrated exactly in the same way as any other Moodle resource or activity, meaning they can be updated or deleted; their access can be restricted to a certain group of users or to users that have previously fulfilled some steps or conditions; security copies are automatically performed during Moodles system backups, etc.0Doctoral Thesis17072Torre Cubillo, Luis de la. New generation virtual and remote laboratories : integration into web environments 2.0 with learning management systems . 2013. Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (España). Energy storage systems play a very important role in smart grids. The characteristics of smart cities enhance the use of high power density storage systems, such as SMES systems. Because of this, we studied the possibility of adapting these systems in this kind of electrical topology by simulating the effects of an energy storage system with high power density (as SMES). An electrical and control adaptation circuit for storing energy was designed. The circuit consisted of three blocks. The first one was a passive filter LCL. The second was a converter system that allows rectifying of the signal when the system runs in charge mode but acts as an inverter when it changes to discharge mode. Finally, there is a chopper that allows the current levels to be modified. Throughout simulations, we have seen the possibility of controlling the energy supply so as the storage. This permits to adapt to different contingencies which may induce the wiring of the charge in the net, as well as different types of charges. Despite the technical contribution of this kind of systems in the Spanish electrical network, there are big obstacles that would prevent its inclusion in the network, such as the high cost of manufacturing and maintenance compared with other cheaper systems such as superconductors or the low energy density, which limits their use.0412Colmenar-Santos, Antonio, Molina-Ibáñez, Enrique-Luis, Rosales-Asensio, Enrique y López-Rey, África . grandes ciclos políticos de onda larga.
En el primero las dictaduras son
fuertes y la democracia encuentra
serias dificultades para mantenerse.
En el segundo los regímenes
autoritarios son los débiles y la
democracia se extiende y fortalece.
Estos ciclos coinciden con otros de
tipo económico. La concordancia se
debe a que los problemas de cada
ciclo económico se abordan de
manera más eficaz desde las
correspondientes formas políticas
generadas por los imperativos de la
economía. Igual que las crisis de 1920
y 1929 contribuyeron a la expansión
del fascismo y del autoritarismo, las de
1973 y 1979 coadyuvaron a la de la
democracia. Este postulado no debe
interpretarse de manera mecanicista;
se trata de explicar un proceso
histórico general, el de las transiciones
democráticas del último cuarto del
siglo XX, investigando una de las
claves, quizá la más importante, las
fluctuaciones de la economía.In tfie 20th century, we can differentiate
two major long wave political cycles. In
tfie first one, dictatorstiips become
strong, while democracy finds itself at
great pains to maintain its claims. In
the second cycle, authoritarian regimes
weaken and democracy spreads and
grows stronger. There two cycles
coincide with others of economic
nature. This coincidence is due to the
fact that in each economic cycle,
problems are more efficiently deait with
as seen from their corresponding
political Systems, generated in turn by
the imperativos of economy. In the
same way as the crisis of 1920 and
1929 contribute to expand fascism and
authoritarianism, so those of 1973 and
1979 also favoured the expansión of
democracy. This postúlate should not
be interpreted in a mechanistic way; we
are trying to explain a general historical
process, the transitions to democracy
in the final quarter of the 20th century,
investigating one of the key factors,
perhaps the fundamental one, which is
the fluctuations in economy.06372Valdelvira González, Gregorio . During its processing, table olives produce acrylamide, a potential carcinogen compound generated during sterilization. In the present study, total fat and acrylamide content in Californian-style table olives were determined and a regression between them was performed (acrylamide concentration range: below limit of detection—2500 ng g−1 and 8–22% for total fat). Nowadays, there are fast and efficient new techniques, such as Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) to measure fat content parameters. In that sense, NIRS was used to perform a fat content quantification model in olives in order to indirectly determine acrylamide content. Calibration models for fat quantification were obtained in defatted olive pastes from a unique variety and for olive pastes from different varieties. In the first case, best results were obtained since only one variety was used (R2 = 0.9694; RMSECV = 1.31%; and REP = 8.4%). However, in the second case, results were still acceptable R2 = 0.678, RMSECV = 2.3%, REP = 17.7% and RMSEV = 2.17%. Regression coefficients showed the most influence variables corresponded with fat. The determination coefficient for the fat and acrylamide correlation was high (r = 0.877), being an efficient approach to find out the contribution of fat degradation to acrylamide synthesis in table olives.0372Fernández, Antonio, Montero-Fernández, Ismael, Monago Maraña, Olga, Martín Tornero, Elísabet y Martín Vertedor, Daniel . In this study, children's and adult word representations were generated using the latent semantic analysis (LSA) vector space model and Word Maturity methodology. Some children's word representations were used to set a mapping function between amodal and emotional word representations with a neural network model using ratings from 9-year-old children. The neural network was trained and validated in the child semantic space. Then, the resulting neural network was tested with adult word representations using ratings from an adult data set. Samples of 1210 and 5315 words were used in the child and the adult semantic spaces, respectively. Results suggested that the emotional valence of words can be predicted from amodal vector representations even at the child stage, and accurate emotional propagation was found in the adult word vector representations. In this way, different propagative processes were observed in the adult semantic space. These findings highlight a potential mechanism for early verbal emotional anchoring. Moreover, different multiple linear regression and mixed-effect models revealed moderation effects for the performance of the longitudinal computational model. First, words with early maturation and subsequent semantic definition promoted emotional propagation. Second, an interaction effect between age of acquisition and abstractness was found to explain model performance. The theoretical and methodological implications are discussed.0282Martínez-Huertas, José Ángel, Jorge-Botana, Guillermo y Olmos, Ricardo . A reviewbibliuned:DptoCA-FCIE-Articulos-Omonago-0015The latest advances in both theory and experimental procedures on third-order/four-way and fourth-order/five-way calibration methods are discussed. This report is focused on excitation–emission (fluorescence and phosphorescence) matrices generation, employing different variables as the third data mode (time retention in chromatography, pH gradient, fluorescence/phosphorescence lifetime, kinetics, or other chemical treatments). Fully capitalizing on the second-order advantage, it has been possible to develop appealing analytical applications in spite of the complexity of the data. Extraction of the significant chemical information about the system under study as well as the individual abundance of the contributing constituents after proper higher-order data decomposition has allowed to analytical researchers performing quantitative analysis of complex samples. The experimental works reported up to the present are introduced and discussed in order to illustrate concepts. Throughout this work, the analytical benefits achieved by modeling third- and fourth-order data are exposed, attempting to contribute to the ongoing debate in the chemometric community regarding the existence and the true nature of the third-order advantage.0322Alcaraz, Mirta R., Monago Maraña, Olga, Goicoechea, Héctor C. y Muñoz de la Peña,Arsenio . A computational studybibliuned:DptoMCC-FPSI-Articulos-Jamartinez-0019In this study, we analyzed the relationship between the amodal (semantic) development of words and two popular emotional norms (emotional valence and arousal) in English and Spanish languages. To do so, we combined the strengths of semantics from vector space models (vector length, semantic diversity, and word maturity measures), and feature-based models of emotions. First, we generated a common vector space representing the meaning of words at different developmental stages (five and four developmental stages for English and Spanish, respectively) using the Word Maturity methodology to align different vector spaces. Second, we analyzed the amodal development of words through mixed-effects models with crossed random effects for words and variables using a continuous time metric. Third, the emotional norms were included as covariates in the statistical models. We evaluated more than 23,000 words, whose emotional norms were available for more than 10,000 words, in each language separately. Results showed a curve of amodal development with an increasing linear effect and a small quadratic deceleration. A relevant influence on the amodal development of words was found only for emotional valence (not for arousal), suggesting that positive words have an earlier amodal development and a less pronounced semantic change across early lifespan.0232Martínez-Huertas, José Ángel, Jorge-Botana, Guillermo, Martínez-Mingo, Alejandro, Iglesias, Diego y Olmos, Ricardo . Eventually, mathematics itself became a subject of philosophical inquiry, and philosophy of mathematics came to be. It is precisely because of the early appearance of mathematics in the history of humankind that philosophy of mathematics is much older than the philosophy of other academic disciplines, like philosophy of biology, or even philosophy of physics. Not only that, but many of the ideas developed by Greek philosophers in philosophy of mathematics prevail to this day. The legacy of platonism, for example, is such that it remains one of the most popular metaphysical assumptions among not only practicing mathematicians, but also among other academics who make use of applied mathematics in their fields of knowledge and the general population. However, a generation of philosophers originated in the second half of the 20th century and pioneered by Imre Lakatos and Philip Kitcher has noted that, in spite of the long track of philosophy of mathematics and the considerable number of school of thoughts in the discipline, the focus of philosophers of mathematics has been quite limited. The practical aspects of mathematics, that is, how mathematics is done as a whole, have been neglected for the most part. On the other hand, the philosophy of empirical sciences, even with a shorter history at its back, enjoys a broader range of topics among its repertoire. This is, in part, due to a number of particularities of mathematics as a field of knowledge, a lack of philosophical reflection on such mathematical idiosyncrasy, and a passive and limited in scope history of mathematics. In this essay, I shall provide an overview of the differences between the traditional philosophy of mathematics and the philosophy of mathematical practice. Moreover, I will explore the philosophical milestones that gave rise to the genesis of the latter, and discuss the role of the central pillars that currently keep it afloat.0Doctoral Thesis5822Pérez Escobar, José Antonio. The challenge is, however, to provide easy, quick and relevant access to the vast amount of information that is available. One step towards facilitating information access to online health data is opinion mining. Even though the classification of patient opinions into positive and negative has been previously tackled, most works make use of machine learning methods and bags of words. Our first contribution is an extensive evaluation of different features, including lexical, syntactic, semantic, network-based, sentiment-based and word embeddings features to represent patient-authored texts for polarity classification. The second contribution of this work is the study of polar facts (i.e. objective information with polar connotations). Traditionally, the presence of polar facts has been neglected and research in polarity classification has been bounded to opinionated texts. We demonstrate the existence and importance of polar facts for the polarity classification of health information. Material and methods We annotate a set of more than 3500 posts to online health forums of breast cancer, crohn and different allergies, respectively. Each sentence in a post is manually labeled as “experience”, “fact” or “opinion”, and as “positive”, “negative” and “neutral”. Using this data, we train different machine learning algorithms and compare traditional bags of words representations with word embeddings in combination with lexical, syntactic, semantic, network-based and emotional properties of texts to automatically classify patient-authored contents into positive, negative and neutral. Beside, we experiment with a combination of textual and semantic representations by generating concept embeddings using the UMLS Metathesaurus. Results We reach two main results: first, we find that it is possible to predict polarity of patient-authored contents with a very high accuracy (≈ 70 percent) using word embeddings, and that this considerably outperforms more traditional representations like bags of words; and second, when dealing with medical information, negative and positive facts (i.e. objective information) are nearly as frequent as negative and positive opinions and experiences (i.e. subjective information), and their importance for polarity classification is crucial.0352Carrillo de Albornoz, Jorge, Rodríguez-Vidal, Javier y Plaza, Laura . This risk arises as a result of the changes that may suffer the price of the assets that encompass a portfolio. One of the possible measures to quantify this risk is the evaluation of losses likely to be incurred when the price of the portfolio assets falls. This is what Value al Risk (VaR) undertakes. Since the BCBS al the Bank for International Settlements requires a financial institution to meet capital requirements on the basis of VaR estimates, allowing them to use internal models for VaR calculations, this measurement has become a basic market risk management tool for financial institutions. Consequently, it is of not surprise that the last decade has witnessed the growth of academic literature comparing alternative modelling approaches and proposing new models for VaR estimations in an attempt to improve upon those already in existence. The success of VaR is based on the fact that it is essentially a simple concept, since the VaR reduces the risk associated with a portfolio to a single number. But despite this simplicit, its statistical measurement remains today a challenge. Therefore, over the years different methodologies have been developed for obtaining more accurate VaR estimates. Thus, the main objectives pursued by this thesis are the following: 1.- The first goal in this Thesis (Chapter 2) is to conduct thorough theoretical review of existing methodologies, showing the strengths and weaknesses presented on each of them. Additionally, since there is no consensus on the best approach, a summary of the empirical results obtained by works devoted to the comparison of VaR methodologies is displayed. 2.- The second objective (Chapter 3) is the evaluation of the accuracy of some skewed and fat-tail distributions for the purpose of the VaR estimation. A comparison of a wide range of symmetric and asymmetric distributions is conducted. For such purpose, an empírical analysis using data of the main European, Americans and Asians stock indices have been performed. The comparative is addressed following two directions: first, the distributions are compared in statistical terms to determine which it is the best for fitting financial return in second place, the distributions are compared in terms of VaR, in order to select which is best for forecasting VaR. 3° As important as measuring market risk is to analyze the results of estimations generated, i.e. what is known by the ten "backtesting". Risk managers need a tool or formal procedure that allows them to analyze the VaR measure results as they are interested in choosing the best model among different alternative VaR measures. Backtesting procedures can be broadly classified into two groups: backtesting based on any statistical test and backtesting based on a loss function. The third goal of the Thesis Chapter 4) is to examine whether the comparison of VaR models depends on the loss function used for such purpose. To do so, a comparison of different VaR models using the loss functions proposed by the literature is carried out, taking into account both regulators and company risk managers concerns, and eventually checking if the results of these comparisons are robust to the loss function used. Additionally, a new firms loss function has been proposed, which has the advantage of of re covered. Finally, the Thesis ends with some concluding remarks shown in the Chapter 5.0Doctoral Thesis7722López Martín, Carmen. Measuring market risk though value at risk : the the role of fat-tail and skewness distributions in VaR estimate and loss functions in models comparison . 2015. Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (España). Retos y reformas pendientesbibliuned:DptoEAyGP-FDER-Articulos-Mcgonzalez-0006The pandemic has caused a great impact on economies around the world to which it has been very difficult to react with some serenity and reflection. The political decisions adopted, apparently based on health recommendations, have generated far-reaching economic effects that have yet to be quantified and have required adaptations in record time to the prevailing forms of work in both the public and private sectors. One of the fundamental differences compared to previous crises such as that of 2007-13 is that the causes of the Covid- 19 crisis are known, although its consequences have not yet been accurately determined. This differential feature has the advantage that it allows governments to adopt measures to remedy it and to try to be prepared for what may come in the immediate future. This not only from the health point of view, which is obvious, but from the economic and labor market perspective too. In practical terms, if the lesson is assimilated and what has been learned is put into practice, it will be possible to avoid making the same mistakes to solve a similar situacion. This should be the message to try to temper both the sanitary and economic effects of the second wave of the pandemic, in whose frontispiece we seem to find ourselves. Although the 2008 crisis already revealed extraordinary weaknesses in the Spanish economy, its very strong dependence on construction (the so called the real estate boom) and the fragility of job stability in this "drag" sector of the economy, it has again been the real estate sector one of the most affected by the 2019 crisis. We have learned little and, what is worse, few adjustments have been made in the Spanish production model since then. The same can be preached about tourism. Spain has been for decades a power in this sense, competing for the top positions in the world ranking with countries such as France or the United States. It is true that the previous crisis also seriously harmed this sector, but far from modernizing and restructuring its production model, our country has lived off the income derived from the political instability of other rival states that have seen their potential visitors heading towards our territory as a consequence of the instability of their political regimes as a result of the so-called “Arab Spring”. What no one can deny is that we are facing an economic and labor crisis of which we still do not know the consequences and the duration. This is one of the first differences with respect to what happened a little over 10 years ago when certain imbalances could be visualized based mainly on an excess of debt -both public and private- mainly due to uncontrolled domestic demand, especially in Spain, but which no one was able to predict exactly. To try to clarify some of these issues in order to design future strategies for economic recovery, the following is a set of data provided by official sources and private organizations trying to measure the effects of the pandemic on economic aggregates and the labor market, as well as some personal reflections on the changes experienced in the economic model and those that are expected to occur, as a result of labor market adjustments, in the most immediate future.0382González Rabanal, Miryam de la Concepción .
The regulation of the educational rights has proven to be one of the most troubled of the Spanish constitutional experience. If in the 80s the conflict revolved around the articulation of public education and social initiative (and funding of such education) and discussions between internal and external pluralism in education, in recent years has emerged dissent about what is meant by education. In this sense, the debate has gained currency in the constitutional educational ideology.
In this paper is examined the existence and scope of the educational ideology of the Constitution, from its projection in the resolution of legal disputes in this area that have taken place in recent years.
Firstly, is analyzed the issue of home schooling, and its relationship with the above mentioned educational ideology of the Constitution, in order to determine what is the purpose of education.
Secondly, and given that the Constitutional Court considers that education has a purpose of social integration that goes beyond the transmission of knowledge, civic aspect of education is analyzed, from the controversy generated by the introduction into the curriculum of the subject «Education for Citizenship». Third, and in view of the constitutional relationship between ideology and institutional education is considered the legitimacy of the schools specialized by sex.
Finally, from the considerations in the above cases, is proposed a restrictive conception of the educational ideology of the Constitution in order to preserve political pluralism and the distinction between state and society, basis of a democratic society.06652Nuevo López, Pablo . caso norteamericano = Towards a new vice presidency?
In the Presidential Regimes of Latin America, the institution of the
Vice Presidency has been barely studied, unlike that of the United
States. It only received some comments from authors such as Juan
Linz, doubting its effectiveness and pointing out some of the issues
surrounding its figure, like the criteria for nomination of candidates
and conflicts with the Presidents. But Vice Presidency was practically
not taken into account in the debate on presidencialism and parlamentarism, despite being the second place of importance in a presidential
regime. With democracy back in the region, Vice Presidency
has generated numerous political problems, but there virtually isn’t
any academic debate on this. Severe tensions and conflicts between
the President and Vice President, even Vice Presidents turned into
opponent, are some of the problems observed. On the other hand,
some Vice Presidents have taken, with varying success, the role of
President be it because of the former’s death or because of political
crisis that culminated with the resignation of the President. In the
United States, historically, there has been a devalued image of Vice
Presidency and similar problems observed in Latin America. But in
the United States, Vice Presidency has been studied for some time
and the institution has evolved through para-constitutional practices.
Now, Vice Presidency is an important part of the institutional
system and it is located in the orbit of the Executive Branch. It has
earned tasks, new roles and influence, beyond the persistence of the
images that do little in its favor. Due to this para-constitutional evolution,
it is to be expected, from a Vice President, his participation
in the Presidential Cabinet, his «lobbying» in the Senate, the representation
of the President in foreign countries, the role of presidential
adviser and the development of important tasks that the president
might command to him. And the Vice President can expect, as
well, a good position in the future, even presidential succession. This
is how it has been pointed out that it constitutes a field of experience
and preparation for the maximum institutional position: towards the
last of the 20th Century, thirteen out of the forty North American
Presidents served in Vice Presidency. To summarize, this study
provides a focused analysis on Vice Presidency, and deals with some
of the problems that it has brought upon Latin American countries.
Then, an analysis of the North American experience and the evolution
of the institution in this country, is formulated. The analysis of
the North American case results useful to initiate a debate on Vice
Presidency in the region, to explore a necessary research agenda and
as one of the possible alternatives at the time of its reform.06122Serrafero, Mario D. .
