An unusual white pigment has been used in the zoomorphic pictographs of the Galb Budarga shelter which main components are the anhydrite (CaSO4) polymorphs I and II. Red and orange zoomorphic figures and ancient Berber scripts have been painted in the Tuama Budarga rock shelter. Haematite (α-Fe2O3) is the main component of the paints used; amorphous carbon and different manganese oxides have also been detected. Accretions of gypsum (CaSO4·2H2O) and anhydrite have been observed on the shelter wall used to paint. α-Quartz (α-SiO2), albite (NaAlSi3O8), dolomite, CaMg(CO3)2, calcite (CaCO3) and traces of hydroxylapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) have been identified in the rocks supporting the paintings of both sites. Layers of calcium oxalates, whewellite (CaC2O4·H2O) and weddellite (CaC2O4·(2 + x)H2O, x ≤ 0.5) cover the pictorial panels of these rock shelters. A microestratrigraphic study of the paint used in the Tuama Budarga shelter revealed that the pigment layer is bracketed between oxalate layers.0362Iriarte, Mercedes, Hernanz, Antonio, Gavira-Vallejo, José María, Sáenz de Buruaga, Andoni y Martín, Santiago . This article is focused on Lola Massieu’s
paintings and her works stylistic evolution.
Born in Gran Canaria she started her
career painting traditional themes as still
life or portrait in oils fluctuating between
impressionist and expressionist
languages. This was in the forties but
soon, little by little, her works entered a
quest to summarize objects forms which
led her to informal compositions in the
sixties and seventies. Never deserting her
passion to look at new ways of painting,
after decades of experience, she achieved
a full creative freedom to lead her instincts
and yearnings for communication.05112Cuétara San Luis, Isabel de la . This resulted in a new artistic order that differed from the one previously in use and from the one that followed in the 20th century. The paper argues that understanding this organisation is essential in order to approach 19th century artistic production.05322Pérez Viejo, Tomás . de los trabajos de estudio de la

Una visión veinte años después = The Rock Art of La Cueva de Ambrosio (Vélez-Blanco, Almería, Spain).
no interpretados.
In the solutrean site of La Cueva de Ambrosio (Vélez-Blanco, Almería, Spain) several engraved and
painted figures dated on the Upper Palaeolithic, have been found during the field works of 1992 and 1994.
In The panel I we have identified an excellent representation of a horse, a bird, one bovidae and another
protome of a horse. Below this surface there are many red ochre wall paintings covered by a calcitic speleotheme
and for the time being we are unable to give any interpretation for it. In the second panel we have
discovered more tone splendid red painted horse, two more enngraved horses and a little head of one other
black painted horse. There are many engraved lines and pictural rests that must be studied in the future.
The exceptionality of this discovery is that we can interrelate perfectly these rock art paintings with the
archaeological levels clearly defined chronologically and culturally (ca. 20000 BP), Middle Solutrean and
Upper Solutrean from the same site.07042Ripoll López, Sergio, Muñoz Ibáñez, Francisco J., Jordá Pardo, Jesús F. and Martín Lerma, Ignacio . Countries involved in The Great War experienced dramatic changes in every aspect of their day to day life. Some artists were especially sensitive towards the moral convulsion caused by a mechanized war where an increasing number of soldiers were dying in the frontline and massacres were taking place in the rear. Through sketches he drew in battle, Otto Dix, the German expressionist painter, portrayed the harshness of war and life in the trenches as he had experienced them during his time as a soldier on the Western Front. After the conflict he would also depict the horrors of the Great War in some of his engravings and paintings. We must also add that his works can at the same time be understood as a denunciation of the atrocities of war universally. In 1937 Pablo Picasso painted the Guernica, a mural painting which bears the title of the Basque town bombed not long before the painter started working on this picture. Since its creation this painting has become one of the most important art works of the past century and a symbol of the struggle for peace. Both Dix and Picasso made use of avant-garde languages in order to produce new ways of representing war far from what was traditional in Western culture. Dix employed Expressionism in his compositions to show convincing scenes which the viewer would find of a crudity difficult to digest, and, when portraying the consequences of modern war amongst the helpless population, Picasso based his painting on Cubism and Surrealism.010682Llorente Hernández, Ángel . Several Europeans travellers journeyed throughout the Near East and Iran during the XIX century. Many of them left an indelible memory in these relevant books, in which they described the ruins, customs and landscapes. Adolfo Rivadeneyra wrote one of the best works. In addition, his journey gave rise to a singular painting, one of the most interesting examples of the Spanish Orientalist Paintings. Velázquez por los tratadistas Pacheco,
Díaz del Valle, Martínez y Palomino
asistimos a unos grandes cambios,
debidos a los diferentes objetivos
marcados por los escritos. Pacheco
(1638) lo presenta como «grande
retratador» al lado de los grandes
maestros Ticiano y Rubens y como
«Apeles español», apoyando sus
esfuerzos por obtener mayores premios y
honores. Con el propósito de avalar sus
pretensiones de ingresar en la Orden de
Santiago, su amigo y colega Díaz del
Valle (1659) amplía esta imagen a la de
un Velázquez «caballero», «pintor y
arquitecto» y «divino artista». No menos
liberal y noble».In the «images» of Velázquez created by
the art theorists Pacheco, Díaz del Valle,
Martínez and Palomino we can emphasize
some great changes depending on the
aims of each one. Pacheco (1638) is
presenting the artist as «grande
retratador» («great portraitist») next to
Tizian and Rubens and as «Apeles
español», pointing out his efforts to obtain
some day more awards and honours.
Supporting the ambicious bids for being
awarded with the Order of the Knights of
Santiago, his friend and colleague Díaz
del Valle (approx. 1659) amplifies this
image to one of Velázquez «caballero»
(«knight»), «pintor y arquitecto« («painter
and arquitect») and «divino artista»
(«divine artist»). Not less remarkable is the
image of Velázquez «gran pintor» («great
painter») created by Jusepe Martínez
(about 1673) a decade later, in the context
to counteract the underestimation of the
spanish painting not only abroad but also
in Spain. To this big scale of images
Palomino is adding a new accent,
emphasizing the image of the artist as
«noble caballero» («noble knight»).
Velázquez is the only artist in the Parnaso
español pintoresco laureado (1724) whose
profession of «pintor» is to some extent
hidden. For the theorist the fortunate
career of Velázquez at the court of Philip
IV from «pintor» to «noble caballero»
marks a paradigma of the change of the
state of painting from an «oficio»
(«handcraft») to an «arte liberal y noble»
(«noble and liberal profession»).011172Hellwig, Karin .

The ongoing discoveries of cave painting sites of the schematic style in

not always been approached by following the adequate accuracy nor guidelines
so as to give shape to it within the context of the local prehistoric art.
By this synthesizing piece of worlk, we intend to lay down some common
starting points for the analysis of schematic cave painting. Once overecome
the purely aesthetic aspects of art, we will aim to consider others, such as
the chronological and cultural context and, consequently, the ideological
background supporting it.06852Bernal Monreal, José Antonio and Mateo Saura, Miguel Ángel . Advantages and limitations of the different techniques, protocols and recommendations for sampling and proposals to deal with difficulties are discussed. Portable instrumentation and non-destructive multi-technique methodology are highly advisable. Contamination and the presence of non-pictorial materials must always be taken into account because rock art is an open-air scenario. Accretions, alterations, deterioration and possible remedies are considered. The results obtained are very useful for archaeologists and conservators. The use of new techniques and instrumentation augurs a promising future in this field.0202Hernanz, Antonio y Gavira-Vallejo, José María . costumbre del symposium en las
sociedades antiguas, las comunidades
cristianas celebraron, desde sus mismos
inicios, banquetes o comidas rituales que
sirvieron para fortalecer los vínculos
comunitarios y asentar la propia identidad
religiosa.
The First Christian Communities did
assume the widespread symposium habit
of the Ancient societies as theirs. From
the beginning, they celebrated banquets
or ritual meals that were used to
strengthen the community ties and to
consolidate their own religious identity.
At the bosom of this kind of gathering,
originally known as the Agape term, did
emerge the Eucharistic meal. From the
New Testament writings, the Christian
literary sources speak us with some
profusion about the religious banquets,
and, from the third century, they
appeared represented on Christian
funerary fresco paintings and mosaics.08812González Salinero, Raúl .
Luis Paret y Alcázar painted a set of
harbours of the Cantabric Coast in the
north of Spain. Paret created this set of
views to satisfy the commission of Carlos
III, king of Spain.
The aim of this work is to go deeply into
this painter’s live, so that we can
understand in a better way his art.
Although the studies already done by
several art historians, there are still a lot of
unknown factors about his live and work.
We should ask ourselves why he fell in the
forgetfulness after being one of the rising
painters at his time.05182Castilla Albisu, María . ofrecida no es la esperada, el arte
permite que el hombre se interrogue
sobre la veracidad del mundo que le
rodea. Las crucifixiones de Bacon y
Barceló, cuyas desquiciadas formas
suplantan al Cristo crucificado,
devuelven al ojo su facultad de ver,
abren el interrogante acerca del
resquebrajamiento del símbolo que
representan: permiten que el hombre
tome conciencia de su ubicación en la
vida. No hay imagen, no hay rostro,
que no señale la ausencia de Dios,
que no apure la falsedad del sistema.
Las crucifixiones de Bacon y Barceló
activan esa falta, se hacen parte de
ella; la traen al presente. El símbolo se
abre al rostro ignorado del otro. La
cruz es porosidad, carne. La pintura,
materia. La imagen simbólica recupera
su potencialidad con ellas. When the offered image isn't the
expected, the art allows the man
questioning himself over the world's
veracity around him. The Bacon and
Barceló's crucifixions, with deranged
forms take the place of crucified Crhist,
giving back to the eye its faculty of
see, open the question about the
cracking the symbol they represent:
allowing the man to be aware of his
position in the Ufe. There isn 't image,
there isn't face, that doesn't indícate
the God's absence, that doesn't show
the system's lie. The Bacon and
Barceló's crucifixions detonate this
lack, because a part of it; bring
it to the present. The symbol opens
to an unkown face from the other.
The cross Is porority, meat.
The painting, matter. The symbolic
image recovers its powerful
with those crucifixions.05632Sabalete Gil, Carmen . el solar del Colegio Mayor N- Sra. de

en un mismo momento cronológico y
constituyen un importante lote de
cerámicas de época romana: térra
sigillata hispánica, térra sigillata
hispánica avellana, cerámica de
paredes finas, cerámica pintada de
tradición indígena, cerámica vidriada,
cerámica común de mesa y de cocina,
pondera y material de construcción;
además se hallaron diversos restos
metálicos y una aguja de hueso. El
estudio nos proporciona una cronología
de finales del s. I y mediados del s. II.
Aunque el basurero es el único resto
romano hallado en el citado solar, no
constituye un elemento aislado, ya que
a comienzos del siglo se encontró en
el cercano Pte. de los Franceses un
ara funeraria, asociada a cerámicas y
monedas que sin duda era parte de
una necrópolis perteneciente a una
villa, uno de cuyos basureros se
analiza en este artículo.
A la importancia de sumar un nuevo
hallazgo en Madrid, se añade el hecho
de ser uno de los pocos vestigios
romanos excavados recientemente en
la capital y que además aporta
interesantes datos cronológicos y
económicos para el análisis de la
presencia romana en la zona.A román rubbish dump was founded

de África. The materials were
placed in the site at the same time
and they are an important
assemblage of román pottery: T.S.H.,
T.S.H. avellana, Thin-wailed pottery,
painted pottery, glaced pottery,
kitchen and table common pottery,
pondera and building material;
moreover it was founded several
metal remains and one bone needle.
The complete study offers a
chronological frame work between
the end of I century and the middie of
llnd century.
Although the rubbish dump is the
only one román remain founded in
the mentioned excavation , it is not
an isolated factor, since at the
beginings of this century, it was
founded a funeral altar stone, near
Pte. de los Franceses, asociated to
pottery and coins that, probably,
were part of the necrópolis from a
next villa.
This finding is un importat discovery,
because it is one of the few román
remains excavated recently at Madrid
and also it provides interesting
chronological and economical data
for the comprehesion of román traces
in the area.05992Guiral Pelegrín, Carmen . The great religious geniuses are Jesus, Buddha and Muhammad. Neither Jesus nor Muhammad wanted to create a religion, but to correct the primitive revelation, which had gotten off course. Muhammad has created a religiousness that has given millions of faithful spiritual food throughout many centuries and a fabulous mysticism that has lasted for over thousand years. Tor Andrae points out influences of the Syrian church and Monasticism. D.J. Sahas points out a strong Syrian Monasticism influence in the Qur’an. This paper compares fundamental aspects of religiousness in the Qur’an with that of Palestinian Monasticsm: Hell, Last Judgement, Demonology, Angeology, Paradise, Prayer, fasting, Alms, Food prohibition, Eucharist, etc. Muhammad is a Christian heretic according to Saint John of Damascus, who lived many years in the Umayyad court, where he held important posts. Muhammad admits that Christ is the Messiah, a great Prophet, the Word of God and his envoy. He denies he is God, as well as redemption, and crucifixion, which is only apparent, but accepts resurrection and ascension. He does not admit Trinity. The great protestant investigators of the 20th century –Harnack, Schlatter, Wellhausen– maintain he was an Ebionite, in other words, a heterodox Jewish Christian, who lived in Palestine and Syria. A thesis accepted by the great Catholic Theologian H. Küng, a supporter of dialogue with Islam. Muhammad lived at the beginning a mountain life, very similar to that of Christian monks. There are paintings in Muslim art depicting Muhammad with monks, who he knew well from his journeys to Syria. A strong influence of Palestinian and Syrian Monasticism in Muhammad’s religiousness can not be put in question, as D.J. Sahas, an excellent connisseur of Saint John of Damascus and Muhammad, points out. The religiousness of Muhammad, of Palestinian Monasticism and of Jesus have strong social character, like that of the great prophets of Israel. This paper confirms the sentence of Seyyed Husseyn Nasr, that primitive Muslims were monks who did not keep up with celibacy.07122Blázquez Martínez, José María and García Gelabert, María Paz .
We analyze the role played by the Ateneo
de Santander of the twenties, its role as a
meeting place, gallery of political opinion,
cultural and artistic renewal, promoter of
the avant-garde artistic and literary. We
study some of the ideological and cultural
debates developed, the reception of the
ultraism (Gerardo Diego, 1919),
discussions on the new paint, on

first renewal movements of the arts.
Interest in renewing the forms, among
writers and artists, but not ideological or

timidly, at the end of the Dictatorship. We
also studied the more ideologically
committed literature and its
