We study E-optimal and weak E-optimal solutions and also proper E-optimal solutions in the senses of Benson and Henig. We relate these types of solutions and we characterize them through approximate solutions of scalar optimization problems via linear scalarizations and nearly E-subconvexlikeness assumptions. Moreover, in the particular case when the feasible set is defined by a cone-constraint, we obtain characterizations by means of Lagrange multiplier rules. The use of improvement sets allows us to unify and to extend several notions and results of the literature. Berlin: Springer-Verlag; 2014 (Series in vector optimization)], based on the oriented distance of Hiriart–Urruty with respect to a general variable ordering structure (VOS). We first study the continuity of the composition of a set-valued map with the oriented distance. Then, using the obtained results, we study the continuity of the scalarization function by extending some concepts of continuity for cone-valued maps. As an application, convergence in the sense of Painlevé–Kuratowski of sets of weak minimal solutions is provided, with the vector criterion and a VOS. This limit behavior depends on an approximation set that is used to define the approximate proper efficient solutions. We also study the special case when the final space of the vector optimization problem is normed, and more particularly, when it is finite dimensional. In these specific frameworks, we provide several explicit constructions of dilating ordering cones and approximation sets that lead to the desired limit behavior. In proving our results, new relationships between different concepts of approximate proper efficiency are stated.0182Gutiérrez, C., Huerga, Lidia, Novo, V. y Sama, Miguel . We study not only the case, where the intersection of all the involved domination sets has a nonzero element, but also the case, where it might be the singleton. While the first case has been studied earlier, the second case has not, to the best of our knowledge, done yet. Our results extend and improve the existing results in vector optimization with a fixed ordering cone and with a variable ordering structure.0232Bao, Truong Q., Huerga, Lidia, Jiménez, B. y Novo, V. . We establish main properties and provide characterizations for these solutions by linear and nonlinear scalarizations. With the help of quasi efficient solutions, a generalized subdifferential of a vector mapping is introduced, which generates a number of approximate subdifferentials frequently used in optimization in a unifying way. The generalized subdifferential is related to the classical subdifferential of real functions by the method of scalarization. An application of generalized subdifferential to express optimality conditions for quasi efficient solutions is also given.0252Huerga, Lidia, Jiménez, B., <a class="citation_author_name" title="Navegar por nombre de Autor de Luc, D. In these analyzes through CEP, we generated several lambda intervals, each with the optimal intervention, its cost and expected effectiveness. Being able to represent these lambda intervals, through a graphic model, will help us see all the available information and will speed us up to make a decision. If we can optimize this tree, it will be easier to study and understand it. Objective: To find the algorithm that returns the best optimization of the generated tree after applying the deterministic CEA analysis. Methods: Applying pruning techniques on the tree nodes (variable exchange, elimination of redundancies, lambda displacement) in a search algorithm, we will be able to get partial results of the search optimization, until we reach the most optimal tree optimization result created with CEP results. Results: Once optimized with the most appropriate pruning techniques and algorithms, we will have a graphic model where the different options can be observed in a more effective and clear way than when we use a textual description. Conclusion: Through the open source software tool "OpenMarkov" the possibility of graphically displaying the result of a deterministic CEA analysis has been implemented. With this new tool we can graphically evaluate the results that were previously shown in a table, and that did not allow us to appreciate in the same detail, each of the concepts that are observed in each branch of the tree.0Doctoral Thesis2772Gil González, Ángel Miguel. We studied tapping operations, an important operation in the assembly process, using cooling air with unreinforced polyamide (PA66) and polyamide reinforced with glass fiber (PA66-GF30). These materials are widely used in industry, but their behavior with respect to tapping has not been studied. We analyze the outcomes regarding the thrust force, torque, and power at cutting speeds between 15 and 60 m/min. The experimental tests were executed using cooling air at 22 °C, 2 °C, and −18 °C in dry conditions. The M12 × 1.75 mm taps were high-speed steel, with cobalt as the base material and coatings of TiN and AlCrN. To identify the more influential factors, an analysis of variance was performed, along with multi-response optimization to identify the desirability values. This optimization shows that the optimum for PA66can be found in environments close to 3 °C, while the optimum for PA66-GF30 is found at the minimal temperature studied (−18 °C). Thus, cooling air can be considered an adequate procedure for tapping operations, to increase the sustainability of the manufacturing processes.0242Domingo, Rosario,, Agustina, Beatriz de y Marín, Marta M. . In this research line, it is proposed a novelty concept based on a rotary Fresnel solar collector to supply heat above 150 °C. This work is focused on the multi-tube receiver for this Fresnel collector, proposing a thermal design based on three criteria that can be generalized for any multi-tube receiver: the fluid flow layout is arranged to meet the symmetry of the solar flux map; the fluid circulates from the lower to the higher flux density zone; and the fluid velocity is modified by modifying the tube diameter, to optimize the heat transfer. Following these criteria, the final configuration of the receiver is chosen based on an exergy optimization, in which both heat loss and pressure drop must be quantified. It has been also accomplished a generalization of the optimization methodology for Fresnel collectors providing heat at different temperatures, showing that, in these cases, the configuration that maximizes the exergy efficiency does not correspond to the one with the highest energy efficiency. This thermal design method can be applied to multi-tube receivers working at higher temperatures in longer Fresnel loops, in which case the optimization will result in more marked differences between the optimal values and the standard ones.0332Montes, M.J., Abbas, Rubén, Barbero, Rubén y Rovira, Antonio . The configurations are aimed to maintain as constant as possible the operation at the pulse and dwell modes with minimal fluctuations in the turbine and heat exchangers parameters, in order to maximize the reliability of these components. Each configuration, as well as the reference one, have been simulated both at pulse and dwell operation modes. Compared to the reference design, the proposed configurations are much steadier and mass flow rates in the steam generator and preheaters are constant. In summary, it is possible to ensure a completely steady operation of the whole steam cycle, including all the heat exchangers, without differences between the pulse and dwell modes using two secondary storage tanks additional to the two original molten salt ones.0382Rovira, Antonio, Sánchez, Consuelo, Montes, María José y Muñoz Domínguez, Marta . To achieve this objective, the most promising scheme is a molten salt central receiver, coupled to a supercritical carbon dioxide cycle. A key element to be developed in this scheme is the molten salt-to-CO2 heat exchanger. This paper presents a heat exchanger design that avoids the molten salt plugging and the mechanical stress due to the high pressure of the CO2, while improving the heat transfer of the supercritical phase, due to its compactness with a high heat transfer area. This design is based on a honeycomb-like configuration, in which a thermal unit consists of a circular channel for the molten salt surrounded by six smaller trapezoidal ducts for the CO2. Further, an optimization based on the exergy destruction minimization has been accomplished, obtained the best working conditions of this heat exchanger: a temperature approach of 50 °C between both streams and a CO2 pressure drop of 2.7 bar.02202Montes, María José, Linares, José Ignacio, Barbero, Rubén y Moratilla, Beatriz Yolanda . Deep Learning with a Small Datasetbibliuned:master-ETSInformatica-IAA-AsafontAccording to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast carcinoma is the cancer with highest prevalence among women, with 2.1 million new diagnoses every year. Given the risk of death associated to the metastasis during the late stages of the cancer, early detection is the optimal strategy to reduce the risk of death. Among the numerous tests that can be used in the breast cancer screening, thermography represents a non-invasive, painless, and free of ionizing radiation. The research group within which I have done this research is interested in applying artificial intelligence to analyzing thermographic images for breast cancer screening. Given that the project that this group intends to carry out in collaboration with HM Hospitales has not yet begun, we have used in this master thesis the Database for Mastology Research (DMR) developed at the Visual Lab of the Universidade Federal Fluminense, in Brazil, which is the only dataset of breast thermograms publicly available. It contains 216 patients, with up to 25 image per patient. It has been studied in dozens of research works, most of them using statistical feature extraction and machine learning algorithms for classification. Unfortunately this database has important flaws, such as two different patient having exactly the same image (pixel by pixel), which have not been mentioned in previous works. For this reason we have devoted a significant effort to cleaning the dataset, which reduced it to only 188 images. We have then tried several deep learning models for image classification. We first built from scratch several Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), each consisting of n pairs of convolutional-maxpool layers, a flatten layer, and n dense layers, for different values of n. All the CNNs gave poor results: the highest accuracy, obtained for n = 4, was 75%, and the largest area under the ROC (AUC), obtained for n = 5, was 0.70. We also took into account that a false positive, which may cause anxiety and discomfort to the patient and lead to a biopsy, is not as serious as a false positive, which may delay the detection of cancer, thus requiring more aggressive and expensive treatments and drastically reducing the survival rate. After consulting with a radiologist of HM Montepríncipe hospital, we estimate that the relative cost of a false negative is at least 20 times higher than that of a false positive and defined a metric in which a false negative weighs the same as 20 false positives. In our study, the CNN with n = 5 has the smallest weighted error, by far, so we have selected this network as a reference for the next phases of our study. In the second group of experiments we have used three of the most popular pre-trained CNNs available in Keras: VGG16, VGG19, and ResNet50, and optimized their parameters for our dataset; this process is usually called transfer learning. Contrary to other results published in the literature, all these re-trained CNNs performed worse than the optimal network built from scratch, i.e., the one with n = 5. Finally, we have built several hybrid models by replacing the top m layers of the optimal CNN with either a Support Vector Machine (SVM) or a Sum-Product Network (SPN), for different values of m. Again the performance was lower than for the optimal pure CNN. The conclusion is that when the dataset contains a relatively small number of images, large CNNs tend to overfit, thus leading to poor AUCs, contrary to the case of large datasets, for which very deep networks usually perform much better than shallow ones. An additional reason for which transfer learning did not work in our study is that the above-mentioned networks were trained for color images, while in a thermogram every pixel does not represent a red-green-blue (RGB) color, but a temperature, and for this reason in our case the networks built from scratch (at least some of them) performed better than re-trained CNNs.0Doctoral Thesis3612Safont Andreu, Anna. For all the cases examined, two innovations are introduced in the solar subsystem, compared to other similar studies. Firstly, the heat transfer fluid in the receiver is either a pressurised gas or a supercritical fluid. Secondly, the receiver is composed of compact structures performing as absorber panels, arranged in a radial configuration. The investigation considers different supercritical CO2 recompression cycles of 50 MWe, including a novel proposal of a directly coupled cycle with heat input downstream of the turbine. Furthermore, the study evaluates different heat transfer fluids in the receiver, specifically CO2, N2, and He, concluding that the former is preferred due to its better thermal performance. The main results show that an increase in the receiver inlet pressure yields to a reduction in its size, favouring the thermal efficiency but penalising the optical efficiency of the solar field. Therefore, optimal working pressures may exist for each configuration, depending on the operating temperature. When comparing the optimal configurations, it is observed that the plant based on the intercooling cycle demonstrates the highest overall efficiency, reaching 32.05%. At last, an economic analysis is conducted to assess the viability of the identified optimal configurations. In this regard, the plant based on the partial-cooling cycle exhibits the lowest levelised cost of electricity at 0.15 $/kWh. This is primarily due to its lower investment cost. The innovative directly coupled cycle follows closely with a cost of 0.17 $/kWh, driven by its high electricity production resulting from its low self-consumption.0472Montes, M.J., Guedez, R., Linares, J.I. y Reyes-Belmonte, M.A. . Depending on the choice of an approximation set that defines these solutions, we prove that they approximate suitably exact weak efficient/proper efficient/efficient solutions of the problem. The variants of the Ekeland variational principle are obtained for an unconstrained and also for a cone-constrained vector equilibrium problem, through a nonlinear scalarization, and expressed by means of the matrix that defines the ordering cone, which makes them easier to handle. At the end, the results are applied to multiobjective optimization problems, for which a related vector variational inequality problem is defined.0282<a class="citation_author_name" title="Navegar por nombre de Autor de Hai, L. Different strategies, based on bulk approaches using bismuth oxide particles and bismuth (III) solutions, were assayed. The features of the modified electrodes were evaluated by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) of Pb(II) and Cd(II) solutions. The best results were obtained when bismuth was incorporated as bismuth oxide particles during the preparation of the PSS–CnP aqueous suspension used to modify the electrodes. Using this optimal modified sensor, the DPASV measurement conditions for Pb(II) and Cd(II) determination were optimized and their figures of merit were evaluated. Mea- surements were performed using two experimental approaches: the “drop method”, by putting the test solution on the surface of the modified SPCE, and the “immersion method” performed by immersing the device in a stirred test solution. The limits of detection (S/N = 3) were 0.27 μg L−1 (1.3 × 10−9 M) for Pb(II) and 0.10 μg L−1 (9.0 × 10−10 M) for Cd(II), using the “drop method”, and 0.029 μg L−1 (1.4 × 10−10 M) for Pb(II) and 0.012 μg L−1 (1.1 × 10−10 M) for Cd(II) employing the immersion procedure. The optimal bismuth modified SPCE was used for Pb(II) and Cd(II) determination in natural water samples with successful results.0252Maria-Hormigos, Roberto, Gismera, Mª Jesús, Procopio, Jesús R. y Sevilla, Mª Teresa . After a detailed study of the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model, the tradeoff curve between end-to-end correlations and the energy gap of the chains is obtained using machine-learning techniques, paying special attention to the scaling behavior with the chain length. We find that edge-dimerized chains, where the second and penultimate hoppings are reinforced, are very often close to the optimal configurations. Our results allow us to conjecture that, given a fixed gap, the maximal attainable correlation falls exponentially with the system size. Study of the entanglement entropy and contour of the optimal configurations suggest that the bulk entanglement pattern is minimally modified from the clean case.0272Santos, Hernán, Alvarellos, José E. y Rodríguez-Laguna, Javier . One of the key issues with traffic light optimization is the large scale of the input information that is available for the controlling agent, namely all the traffic data that is continually sampled by the traffic detectors that cover the urban network. This issue has in the past forced researchers to focus on agents that work on localized parts of the traffic network, typically on individual intersections, and to coordinate every individual agent in a multi-agent setup. In order to overcome the large scale of the available state information, we propose to rely on the ability of deep Learning approaches to handle large input spaces, in the form of Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) algorithm. We performed several experiments with a range of models, from the very simple one (one intersection) to the more complex one (a big city section).0Doctoral Thesis10322Casas, Noé. Decision trees, the standard decision modeling technique for non-temporal domains, can only perform CEAs for very small problems. Influence diagrams can model much larger problems, but only when the decisions are totally ordered. Objective To develop a CEA method for problems with unordered or partially ordered decisions, such as finding the optimal sequence of tests for diagnosing a disease. Methods We explain how to model those problems using decision analysis networks (DANs), a new type of probabilistic graphical model, somewhat similar to Bayesian networks and influence diagrams. We present an algorithm for evaluating DANs with two criteria, cost and effectiveness, and perform some experiments to study its computational efficiency. We illustrate the representation framework and the algorithm using a hypothetical example involving two therapies and several tests and then present a DAN for a real-world problem, the mediastinal staging of non-small cell lung cancer. Results The evaluation of a DAN with two criteria, cost and effectiveness, returns a set of intervals for the willingness to pay, separated by incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs). The cost, the effectiveness, and the optimal intervention are specific for each interval, i.e., they depend on the willingness to pay. Conclusion Problems involving several unordered decisions can be modeled with DANs and evaluated in a reasonable amount of time. OpenMarkov, an open-source software tool developed by our research group, can be used to build the models and evaluate them using a graphical user interface.0332Díez, Francisco Javier, Luque, Manuel, Arias, Manuel y Pérez-Martín, Jorge . Marine species usually ingest plastic fragments, mistaking them for food. Many toxic compounds, such as plastic additives that are not chemically bound to the plastic matrix, can be released from MPs and NPs and reach humans via the food chain. This paper highlights the development and validation of a straightforward solid–liquid extraction clean-up procedure in combination with a matrix solid-phase dispersion method using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) detection, enabling facile, precise, and reliable identification and quantitation of a total of six bisphenols and phthalates in gilthead sea breams. Under the optimized conditions, the developed method showed good linearity (R2 > 0.993) for all target compounds. The recoveries obtained were between 70 and 92%. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) for reproducibility (inter-day) and repeatability (intra-day) were less than 9% and 10%, respectively. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) for the target compounds ranged from 0.11 to 0.68 µg/kg and from 0.37 to 2.28 µg/kg, respectively. A new, efficient extraction methodology for the determination of BPA, BPS, BPF, DBP, DEP, and DHEP in gilthead seabream has been optimized and validated.0352<a class="citation_author_name" title="Navegar por nombre de Autor de Dulce L. In this work, encapsulated ionic liquids (ENILs) are used as catalysts for the NO oxidation at humid conditions and low temperatures. Hollow carbon capsules (CCap) were first synthesized to contain different amounts of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium nitrate IL ([bmim][NO3]), responsible for the catalytic oxidation. Then, the materials were characterized using different techniques, by analyzing microstructure, porosity, elemental composition, and thermal stability. The catalytic performance of ENIL materials was tested for NO conversion at different conditions. Thus, NO concentration was fixed at 2000 ppm at dry and humid conditions. Then, the methanol promotion of the reaction was demonstrated, increasing the NO conversion values in all cases, and the alcohol/water ratio was optimized. The temperature effect was studied as well, using the optimal conditions based on the previous measurements. The results reflect that humid conditions do not have a negative effect in terms of NO conversion when using ENILs, opposite behavior as observed for CCap and traditional catalysts studied before. The low amount of IL inside the material (40% in mass) was found to be the optimum for the task, reaching conversions of almost 45%.0342Santiago, Rubén, Mossin, Susanne, Bedia, Jorge, Fehrmann, Rasmus y Palomar, José . For that, the concentrating solar technology that is best integrated is the molten salt central receiver with a thermal energy storage associated. This work is focused on one of the main challenges of this scheme: the source heat exchanger transferring the thermal energy from the molten salt in the solar field to the CO2 in the power cycle. A new design, based on the printed circuit heat exchanger technology is proposed, that withstands the pressure difference and avoids the molten salt plugging when circulating through microchannels. The thermo-mechanic model of this heat exchanger is also calculated. This work also addresses a thermo-economic optimization of the printed circuit heat exchanger proposed. For that, it is considered the global performance of the solar thermal plant for three layouts: recompression, intercooling and partial-cooling cycles. This optimization yields to a great reduction in the investment cost of these source heat exchangers, achieving the lowest cost in the partial-cooling configuration, followed by the intercooling and finally, the recompression. This trend is also observed in the global performance of the solar plant, so the partial-cooling layout is the one with the lowest levelized cost of electricity; this value is similar to that of the intercooling layout, and both are well below from the cost in the recompression layout, which results the most expensive configuration.02422Montes, María José, Linares, José Ignacio, Barbero, Rubén y Rovira, Antonio . Research design and methods We analyzed 13 population-based national surveys in nine countries (n=8361). We used k-means to develop a clustering model; predictors were age, sex, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), systolic/diastolic blood pressure (SBP/DBP), and T2DM family history. The training data set included all surveys, and the clusters were then predicted in each country-year data set. We used Euclidean distance, elbow and silhouette plots to select the optimal number of clusters and described each cluster according to the underlying predictors (mean and proportions). Results The optimal number of clusters was 4. Cluster 0 grouped more men and those with the highest mean SBP/DBP. Cluster 1 had the highest mean BMI and WC, as well as the largest proportion of T2DM family history. We observed the smallest values of all predictors in cluster 2. Cluster 3 had the highest mean age. When we reflected the four clusters in each country-year data set, a different distribution was observed. For example, cluster 3 was the most frequent in the training data set, and so it was in 7 out of 13 other country-year data sets. Conclusions Using unsupervised machine learning algorithms, it was possible to cluster people with T2DM from the general population in LAC; clusters showed unique profiles that could be used to identify the underlying characteristics of the T2DM population in LAC.0252Carrillo Larco, Rodrigo M, Castillo Cara, Manuel, Anza Ramirez , Cecilia y Bernabé Ortiz, Antonio . This paper presents an optimisation and comparative analysis of different compact plate-fin type structures, constituting the receiver’s absorber panels, classified according to the type of fin arrangement inside: plain rectangular, plain triangular, wavy, offset strip, perforated, and louvred fin. A versatile thermo-fluid receiver model is implemented, allowing simple variation of characteristic geometric parameters of each structure. Exergy efficiency is chosen as the optimisation function, as it considers both heat and pressure losses. The framework of the analysis is set by the receiver’s boundary conditions, operating at the design point conditions of a solar thermal power plant. For each compact structure, the optimal configuration is determined, providing interesting findings that have not been reported in the state-of-the-art to date. Although all geometries show good thermal performance, the perforated and plain rectangular configurations demonstrate the best exergy efficiencies of 59.21% and 58.80%, respectively, favouring taller and narrower channels. This analysis methodology could be seamlessly extrapolated to other gases and working conditions, owing to the thermo-fluid model’s versatility, to reveal the optimal configuration for each case.0422D’Souza, D., Montes, M.J., Romero, M. y González-Aguilar, J. . Super-resolution : multi-frame registration and interpolation using optimal projections on functional spaces . 2009. Optimization of stochastic global variance reduction techniques for Monte Carlo neutron transport with applications to the ITER geometry . 2016. Design and application of an Optimized Adaptive Control System for the superconducting cavities of a linac . 2018. Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (España). The methodology is used to select, among many others, the optimal composite material whose properties are used afterwards to simulate several pipe sections by finite element analysis, comparing the results with a well-known nuclear-grade steel, WWER 15Kh2MFAA. The most suitable composite material according to the defined criteria is composed of a phenolic resin matrix reinforced with long boron fibres and exhibit great properties to be used in a nuclear reactor environment: good radiation resistance and mechanical properties with a very low density at low cost. It can be concluded that, in some cases, composite material pipes can be a better option than steel ones. Extending the method to be employed in other industries or with other components could be seen as future works.0322Merayo, David, Rodríguez Prieto, Álvaro y Camacho, Ana María . We examine the eect on the binding energy and the energy levels of Kohn-Sham's orbitals when Scandium, Vanadium and Calcium atoms are introduced between two bencene molecules in a sandwich conguration. An increasing of the binding energy is observed when a d-block metal, specially vanadium, is introduced. A covalent-like interaction energy is reported. On the contrary, the introduction of calcium, a s-block metal, prevents any binding from occurring. In adition, a reduction of the energy dierence between LUMO and HOMO energy levels is observed in the case of d-block metals whereas an increasing of this energy occurs when a s-block metal is used.0Doctoral Thesis6102Moreno Madrid, Francisco José. The study of 1,4-dihydropyridines (1,4-DHPs) is of particular interest in the pharmaceutical field due to their important applications as calcium channel antagonists for the treatment of heart diseases. The implementation of novel heterogeneous catalysts to optimize Hantzsch synthesis, such as ordered mesoporous molecular sieves, is an efficient and eco-friendly proposal that still requires a lot of work. The remarkable features of ordered mesoporous molecular sieves, such as high surface area, tailored porosity, chemical and thermal stability, among others, turn these materials into powerful solid catalysts capable of selectively leading the synthesis of 1,4-DHPs. In addition, the combination of ordered mesoporous molecular sieves and process intensification for the synthesis of 1,4-DHP derivatives is still a research field in development. Therefore, promote greener methodologies in the synthesis of 1,4-DHPs that can be extended to any organic synthesis in fine chemical production is an important goal yet to be achieved.0232Calvino-Casilda, Vanesa y Martín-Aranda, Rosa . The facilities for learning Bayesian networks interactively can be used to illustrate step by step the performance of the two basic algorithms: search-and-score and PC.0302Díez, Francisco Javier, Arias, Manuel, Pérez-Martín, Jorge y Luque, Manuel . Mobility services are increasingly based on technology and data collection, not only directly related to mobility flows, but also to other variables that affect it to a greater extent such as meteorology, pollution, strikes and temporary events. Knowing where, when and how people move is key to matching supply with demand. A better understanding of their behavior will allow us to better adapt these transport systems and optimize resources. It is necessary to predict how the system will behave to anticipate movements. Deep learning techniques have shown significant improvements in prediction over traditional models, but some difficulties and open questions remain regarding their applicability, accuracy, and ability to provide practical information. Our approach in this paper is based on comparing different models capable of predicting at least 6 hours in advance which stations are likely to be full or empty.0Doctoral Thesis1942Gutiérrez Gómez, Bosco.
