A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Studybibliuned:425-Lfilipa-0022Voice complaints associated with menopause have been reported by a substantial number of studies. However, to assess the clinical relevance of menopause to voice is still difficult as the extent to which menopausal symptoms are reflected on voice metrics remains unclear. A comprehensive review and meta-analysis were carried out to identify voice-related metrics that change with menopause and to quantify the magnitude of those changes. Academic Search Premier, Medline, SciELO, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science were searched without restriction of publication year until January 2020. Cross-sectional studies comparing voice-related metrics between pre- and post-menopausal women were included. Studies assessing effects of hormonal-replacement therapy were excluded. Datasets with more than one publication were also disregarded. Methodological quality of included studies was assessed applying the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for cross-sectional studies. Given the heterogeneous nature of the primary studies, random-effects models were applied to pool the estimates. Eight articles were considered eligible for meta-analyses, assessing the effects of menopause on 6 voice metrics: mean fundamental frequency (fo), extracted from (1) speech and (2) from sustained vowel /a/; frequency perturbation measures (3) jitter, (4) shimmer and (5) noise-to-harmonics ratio; and (6) maximum phonation time. Both speech fundamental frequency and fo for sustained vowel /a/ were found to be 0.94 and 1.18 semitones lower in post- as compared to pre-menopausal women, respectively. Although significant, the magnitude of these decreases is below the just noticeable interval difference and well above the cutting point for distinguishing female from male voices. No significant differences were found for jitter, shimmer, noise-to-harmonics ratio, and maximum phonation time. The evaluation of acoustic metrics that reflect a single aspect of voice production at a time may conceal the effects of hormonal shifts during menopause. In addition, several variables interplay during voice production and acoustical measures may constitute weak predictors of vocal folds’ status, where changes associated to sex steroid hormones are most likely to occur.0562Filipa M.B., Lã y Ardura, Diego . The increased risk of developing this syndrome resulting from established modifiable risk factors, such as depressive episodes, is currently a subject of interest. The aim of this study was to review the scientific evidence that addresses the relationship between depression and dementia. A bibliographic search of the PubMed and PsycInfo databases for articles published over the past 20 years was conducted with the following medical subject heading terms: depression or depressive, dementia, and incidence or cohort studies. After articles meeting the inclusion criteria were selected, relevant moderating variables were grouped as sample characteristics, methodological characteristics, extrinsic characteristics, and outcome variables. The 26 selected studies resulted in a sample comprising 1,760,262 individuals. Statistical analysis revealed a pooled relative risk for the development of dementia of 1.82 (95% CI=1.62–2.06). The primary variables evaluated were the diagnostic methods for depression and dementia and the presence of depression. Other variables, such as mean age, methodological quality of each study, follow-up time, and publication year, were also evaluated. Age was statistically but not clinically significant. No relevant publication bias or alterations in the results were found when accounting for the quality of the studies. It is recommended that new moderating variables be evaluated or that existing variables be reformulated in future studies.0392Fernández Fernández, Roberto, Íbias, Javier y Maciá Antón, María Araceli . This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to (a) determine the effect of exercise-based CR on heart-rate-derived indices associated with cardiac parasympathetic modulation in resting and post-exercise conditions in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients and (b) identify the possible moderator variables of the effect of exercise-based CR on parasympathetic modulation. Methods We searched CENTRAL and Web of Science up to November 2018 for the following terms: adult CAD patients, controlled exercise-based CR interventions and parasympathetic modulation measured in resting (vagal-related heart rate variability [HRV] indices of the root mean square of the differences in successive in RR interval [RMSSD] and high frequency [HF]) and post-exercise (heart rate recovery [HRR]) pre- and post-intervention. We estimated a random-effects model of standardised mean difference (SMD) and mean difference (MD) for vagal-related HRV indices and HRR, respectively. We assessed the influence of categorical and continuous variables. Results The overall effect size showed significant differences in RMSSD (SMD+ = 0.30; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.12–0.49) and HRR (MD+ = 5.35; 95% CI = 4.08–6.61 bpm) in favour of the exercise-based CR group. The overall effect size showed no differences in HF between groups (SMD+ = 0.14; 95% CI, −0.12–0.40). Heterogeneity analyses reached statistical significance, with high heterogeneity for HF (p < 0.001; I2 = 70%) and HRR (p < 0.001; I2 = 85%). Analysis of the moderator variables showed that the effect on HRR is greater in young patients (p = 0.008) and patients treated with percutaneous intervention (p = 0.020). Conclusions Exercise-based CR improves the post-exercise parasympathetic function, with greater effects in younger CAD patients and in those who were revascularised with percutaneous intervention. The effects on resting parasympathetic function are more controversial due to methodological inconsistencies in measuring HRV, with the use of RMSSD recommended instead of HF because its results show higher consistency. Future studies involving women, focusing on methodological issues, and performing other training methods are needed to increase our knowledge about this topic.0342Manresa-Rocamora, Agustín, Ribeiro, Fernando, Sarabia, José Manuel, Íbias, Javier, Oliveira, Nórton Luís, Vera-García, Francisco José y Moya-Ramón, Manuel . To investigate the extent to which these symptoms affect singers, a systematic literature review was carried out using eight interdisciplinary bibliographic databases. Combinations of the following key words were used: menopause, climacterium, singing, singers, and choir. From 18 studies, including three doctoral dissertations and a master’s thesis, only 10 met the inclusion criteria. The heterogeneity of study designs and methods of data collection and analysis precluded the carrying out of a meta-analysis. Instead, descriptors of symptoms affecting the voice, and vocal characteristics associated with menopause (menopause descriptors) were categorized, and their frequency of occurrence determined, according to six types of primary dataset: (1) self-reported symptoms, (2) acoustic characteristics, (3) observations of the larynx, (4) perceptual evaluations, (5) analysis of electrolaryngographic waveform characteristics, and (6) analysis of hormone concentrations. The descriptors that occurred most frequently in the literature concerned aspects of voice production, whereas those concerning vocal health, and vocal practice and performance, were less common. Of the three subsystems that comprise the vocal instrument, the vibrating vocal folds seem to be more affected than breathing and resonance. Changes in vocal range, timbre, endurance, and vocal fold mobility occur during menopause, affecting singers’ voice quality. Some singers reported that their ability to perform was compromised, mainly due to memory lapses and lack of confidence. Maintaining regular singing and practicing semi-occluded vocal tract exercises throughout the menopausal transition seem to help singers to overcome the negative impacts of menopause on vocal performance.0372Fiuza, Mauro B., Sevillano, María Luisa y Filipa M.B., Lã . Methods: Studies were sought from PubMed, Web of Science; Academic Search Complete, Science Direct and Scielo. Databases were searched since 1st January 2000 until December 2012. Two reviewers screened titles and abstracts, and assessed full reports for potentially eligible studies. One reviewer extracted information on musicians’ characteristics, study methods and study quality. When possible a meta-analysis of pain prevalence estimates was performed. Results: A total of 18 studies were included in this systematic review. Studies assessed pain prevalence in general and the prevalence of pain affecting playing capacity for different time periods (point prevalence, one week prevalence, one year prevalence, month prevalence and lifetime prevalence). The prevalence of pain in general, across all groups of musicians and periods of interest over which pain was assessed varied between 29.0% and 90.0%, whereas the prevalence of pain affecting playing capacity varied between 25.8% and 84.4%. There was a tendency for guitar players to have the highest pain prevalence. The most affected body regions were low back (9.8% - 66.7%) and neck (9.8% - 48.5%). Conclusions: Pain prevalence is high among musicians, independently of the pain definition used. Health and educational policy makers should become aware of the high lifetime pain prevalence affecting performance practices, so that pain associated mechanisms are investigated and preventive strategies can be implemented and tested.0452Silva, Anabela G., Filipa M.B., Lã y Afreixo, Vera . A meta-analytic study on computational methodsbibliuned:DptoMCC-FPSI-Articulos-Jamartinez-0009In the last two decades, empirical evidence has shown that personality traits could be related to the characteristics of written language. This study describes a meta-analysis that synthesizes 23 independent estimates of the correlations between the Big Five major personality traits, and some computationally obtained indicators from written language. The results show significant combined estimates of the correlations, albeit small to moderate according to Cohen’s conventions to interpret effect sizes, for the five traits (between r = 0.26 for agreeableness and neuroticism, and 0.30 for openness). These estimates are moderated by the type of information in the texts, the use of prediction mechanisms, and the source of publication of the primary studies. Generally, the same effective moderators operate for the five traits. It is concluded that written language analyzed through computational methods could be used to extract relevant information of personality. But further research is still needed to consider it as predictive or explanatory tool for individual differences.0312Moreno, José David, Martínez-Huertas, José Ángel, Olmos, Ricardo, Jorge-Botana, Guillermo y Botella, Juan . A systematic literature review and bibliometric analysisbibliuned:DptoEEC-FCEE-Articulos-Rarguedas-0001Blockchain has emerged as an innovative technology with potential to transform business management, through operational efficiency improvements. Nevertheless, several performance and vulnerability issues have been identified for the different typologies supporting the wide range of blockchain-based applications currently implemented in different domains. A variety of analytical and empirical models are being used to evaluate the issues associated with the different blockchain typologies, enabling systematic analyses of the corresponding efficiency impact, and technical or economic threats. A thorough systematic literature review of these models has been performed, followed by a detailed assessment on the way these models have been employed, and the target parameters and applications evaluated (336 research selected and analysed). We propose a co-classification of these models, allowing us to identify which ones are employed to a greater extent to address the different blockchain issues in scientific research. In a second step, a bibliometric analysis on the selected research is conducted, offering a complementary overview of the status of and trends in blockchain modelling, including the most prolific authors and leading contributing countries to the topic. The main outcome and contribution of the paper is the provision of a broad overview on how blockchain issues have been analytically tackled, through the synthesis and meta-analysis of the models used in the scientific literature since the inception of blockchain technology. The results have two main direct applications, firstly supporting novel vulnerability and performance analyses of existing blockchain applications by providing historical information on the models used so far, as well as the key parameters and typology of the blockchain-based applications evaluated. Secondly, in the implementation of new applications, by allowing the recognition of key issues identified that are associated with the different blockchain typologies and to determine the most suitable models to analyse the weaknesses and risks of the alternative designs under evaluation for these new implementations.01052Rico-Peña, Juan Jesús, Arguedas-Sanz, Raquel y López-Martín, Carmen . Behavioral resultstesisuned:ED-Pg-PsiSal-EruizThis Thesis is organized in 7 chapters: the theoretical framework, the cognitive changes associated with normal and pathological aging and the contribution of video games programs to prevent the cognitive decline at different age stages, two publications of the interventions with video games in young and older adults, and the main conclusions of the current work. The number of publications related to the effects of video-game training has increased substantially in recent decades, from 15 papers per year during the 90s, to 350 papers in 2015 (Palaus, Marron, Viejo-Sobera, & Redolar-Ripoll, 2017). Video games have many advantages in terms of availability, engagement and cost (Joddrell & Astell, 2016; Burgers, Eden, Van Engelenburg, & Buningh, 2015) but their neurocognitive benefits are still subject to debate. Some authors found positive results derived from video game training (Cain, Landau, & Shimamura, 2012; Shawn Green & Bavelier, 2003; Mondéjar, Hervás, Johnson, Gutierrez, & Latorre, 2016), while others could not replicate them or find any benefit (Irons, Remington, & McLean, 2011; Kable et al. 2017; Murphy & Spencer, 2009). Due to this lack of consensus in the literature about the neurocognitive benefits of video-game training, many studies have pointed out the importance of using an appropriate methodological approach for these kinds of interventions. “The gold standard design” consists in a double blinded study with randomization of participants and an appropriate active control group that matches the experimental group, where placebo effects depending on motivation, engagement and expectations are controlled, and which measures the transfer of learning from the intervention to the neurocognitive functions under study (Boot et al., 2011; Boot & Simons, 2012; Boot et al., 2013; Simons et al., 2016; Shawn Green, Strobach, & Schubert, 2014; Dale & Shawn Green, 2017; García- Betances, Cabrera-Umpiérrez, & Arredondo, 2017; Schubert, Strobach, & Karbach, 2014; Seitz, 2018). Trying to follow these guidelines, we conducted two randomized interventions to analyze the effects of brain-game training on memory and attentional functions in young and older adults. A recent meta-analysis of action video game training studies found that healthy young and older adults benefited from training in overall and specific cognitive domains, but that young adults benefited more than older adults (Wang et al., 2017). It has been studied that brain neuroplasticity continues throughout the lifespan, but how the changes are regulated depends on age (Kolb & Muhammad, 2014; Merzenich, Van Vleet, & Nahum, 2014). Neurocognitive decline associated with normal aging mainly affects memory (working memory, episodic memory, information retrieval and consolidation), executive functions (decision making, problem solving and mental control), attentional networks (selective and divided attention and visuospatial abilities) and reaction times. Thus, it is a priority to investigate the effects of cognitive stimulation programs and optimize them. Among these programs, video games offer many advantages because they are enjoyable, adaptive and engaging for aging people (Chesham, Wyss, Müri, Mosimann, & Nef, 2017) Moreover, neurocognitive deficits associated with normal aging usually occur in pathological aging, with differences in degree, intensity, frequency and temporal distribution (de Flores, La Joie, & Chételat, 2015; Hullinger & Puglielli, 2017). It is therefore essential to study normal and pathological aging, the mechanisms that these processes share, and the stimulation programs that could help to avoid or attenuate them. We firstly conducted an intervention with healthy older adults to measure the effects of non-action adaptive mental games on the cognition of older and young participants, specifically working memory, selective attention, distraction and response inhibition. The results showed that brain games and other kinds of video games such as simulation games could positively benefit the attention and working memory of older adults, but the effects are moderate in terms of near and far transfer of learning. However, older adults showed no gains in inhibitory control after training with non-action video games. Then, we conducted a second intervention with adults aging between 18 and 35 years old. Analysis showed that young adults can transfer learning from non-action adaptive brain games to attention and visuo-spatial working memory with moderate effect sizes, and the positive results could also be obtained with other non-action video games such as simulation games. Nonetheless, playing non-action video games did not improve inhibition responses in young adults either. However, as we did not have a non- intervention control group, we cannot conclude that adaptive non-active video games had an effect. Future studies should include both an active control group and a no-contact group.0Doctoral Thesis8192Ruíz Márquez, Eloísa. <a class="citation_title" title="Click para ver : Video-game training effects on attention and memory in young and older adults.
