The approach is centered on the constuction of learning enviroments, based on a wide and graduated collection of learning tools, to sophisticated professional circuit simulations. Tools are bundled together by hypertext. The most recent development is the evolution of the existing learning material into a distributed system that integrates CBL material with network services. The communication facilities implemented throught the network reintroduce within the domain of CBL the interactivity features that have characterized, since the very beginning, the relations between teachers and learners0conferenceObject5162Da Bormida, G., Doncelli, G. y Ponta, D.(1970) .Distributed multimedia systems for computer based learning in analog and digital electronics. .En: . The NetPro project integrates traditional PBL into a network based learning environment. The project has developed models, tools and services to facilitate communication and collaboration between distant students, and to manage access and control of project deliverables. NetPro project teams form cross-institutional learning communities. This new learning environment is a distributed system that facilitates sharing and peer reviewing of project deliverables and interaction in special interest group discussions. NetPro methodologies and tools have been developed and tested by running pilot projects: four streams of pilots have been run during the project life. The paper provides a few details of the pilot course on Electronic Systems Design. To accompany the tools, the NetPro project has built a Web based collaboration environment, the User Community, to support teachers, trainers and course designers in using models, materials and tools efficiently.0conferenceObject7512Donzellini, G. y Ponta, D.(1970) .Internet based project learning for electronics. .En: . This research analyses a peer learning experience in the asynchronous part of hybrid teaching, in one of the largest blended universities in Europe, promoting students to act as teachers of their peers, by preparing digital content (videos) for the course. This article studies whether there are behaviour patterns and different perceptions associated between students who act as teachers, and those who only act as students. The results indicate, among other findings, that students demand this type of activities, and value them very positively. Specifically, the “teachers” consider that this activity increases their motivation for the subject and their performance; they also consider that it significantly improves their creativity and communication skills, and they would definitely participate in the project again. The assessment of the students who merely view the materials is also very positive, and they prefer a learning method through classmate videos than the traditional learning method with printed materials. The research is also a boost to finding ways to promote learning among equals in non-classroom teaching in digital environments03662Mendieta-Aragón, Adrián, Arguedas-Sanz, Raquel, Ruiz-Gómez, Luis Manuel y Navío-Marco, Julio . An important challenge in this area is identifying the most difficult topics for students in a subject, which is of great use to improve the quality of teaching by devoting more effort to those topics of greater difficulty, assigning them more time, resources and materials. We have approached the problem by means of natural language processing techniques. In particular, we propose a solution based on a deep learning model that automatically extracts the main topics that are covered in educational documents. This model is next applied to the problem of identifying the most difficult topics for students in a subject related to the study of algorithms and data structures in a Computer Science degree. Our results show that our topic identification model presents very high accuracy (around 90 percent) and may be efficiently used in learning analytics applications, such as the identification and understanding of what makes the learning of a subject difficult. An exhaustive analysis of the case study has also revealed that there are indeed topics that are consistently more difficult for most students, and also that the perception of difficulty in students and teachers does not always coincide with the actual difficulty indicated by the data, preventing to pay adequate attention to the most challenging topics.0272Araujo, Lourdes, López-Ostenero, Fernando, Martínez-Romo, Juan y Plaza, Laura . Traditional approaches as Ashby maps based on material properties are widely used in the industry. However, in the production of multimaterial components, the criteria for the selection can include antagonistic approaches. The aim of this work is the implementation of a methodology based on the results of process simulations for several materials and classify them by applying an advanced data analytics method based on Machine Learning (ML), in this case the Support Vector Regression (SVR) and Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) meth- odologies, specifically Multi-criteria Optimization and Compromise Solution (VIKOR) combined with Entropy weighting methods. In order to do this, a Finite Element Model (FEM) has been built to evaluate the extrusion force and the die wear in a multi-material co-extrusion process of bimetallic Ti6Al4V-AZ31B billets. After applying SVR and VIKOR combined with Entropy weighting methodologies, a comparison has been established based on the material selection and complexity of the methodology used, resulting that material chosen in both methodologies is very similar and MCDM method is easier to implement because there is no need of evaluate the error of the prediction model and the time for data preprocessing is less than the time needed in SVR. This new methodology is proven to be effective as alternative to the traditional approaches and aligned with the new trends in the industry based on simulation and data analytics.0372Fernández , Daniel, Rodríguez-Prieto, Álvaro y Camacho, Ana María . This article analyses whether there are patterns of behaviour and different perceptions associated with different groups of students in their role as producers and/or users in the field of active learning in hybrid university education systems. To this end, the research has been conducted with a group of engineering students at one of the largest blended learning universities in Europe. The results indicate higher levels of involvement in, and appreciation of, the experience in content producers compared with mere content consumers, but the students’ environment and personal attitudes (such as their availability and degree of professional dedication) in relation to this type of education, the profile of which is often quite distinct from that of traditional learning, may differentiate their interest and appreciation of these activities, which are more creative and probably more demanding.0572Navío Marco, Julio, Ruiz-Gómez, Luis L., Arguedas-Sanz, Raquel y López-Martín, Carmen . The results indicate higher levels of involvement in, and appreciation of, the experience in content producers compared with mere content consumers, but the students’ environment and personal attitudes (such as their availability and degree of professional dedication) in relation to this type of education, the profile of which is often quite distinct from that of traditional learning, may differentiate their interest and appreciation of these activities, which are more creative and probably more demanding.0322Navío Marco, Julio, Ruiz Gómez, Luis Manuel, Arguedas Sanz, Raquel y López Martín, Carmen .
These are times for reflection on skills. There
is much left to investigate on their possibilities
but it is true that, from the theoretical point of
view, the skill approach appears to be powerful
by complementing a pedagogy which, tradicionally,
has focused on the knowledge and
disciplines. But this approach appears strongly
in the training field as it is linked to the social
and educational practices, to the pedagogic
work on educative problems, to the different
situations, to the project that teachers
wish to materialize in the labor places. Still
to be demonstrated are the expectations on the
skills approach, and this text tries to think on
a series of matters related with its set in motion
in the learning contexts.08022Perrenoud, Philippe . Therefore, to improve their visual skills, people affected by low vision usually follow a visual training program planned and supervised by an expert in this eld. Visual training is especially suitable for children because of their plasticity for learning. However, due to a lack of specialists, training sessions are usually less frequent than optimal. Thus, home-based visual training has emerged as a solution to this problem because it can be undertaken by experts and families together. We implemented the Visual Stimulation on the Internet (EVIN) application, which provides comprehensive visual training tasks through games. It also provides reports on children's performance in these visual training tasks. Although EVIN has shown its usefulness in previous works, two main solutions are needed: (i) a support setup to help experts and families work together to address, among other things, the large variety of exercises and different congurations that can be prescribed and (ii) a rigorous experimental design to compare children trained with EVIN and those trained with traditional materials. To face these challenges, we present an adaptive version of EVIN that provides a new design tool that allows experts to plan visual training tasks through templates in advance. In addition, we developed new metrics and reports to achieve a more accurate assessment of a child's improvement. Among other results, it allowed us to develop an reliable experiment to evaluate signicant improvements in children trained with EVIN.0322Matas, Yolanda, Hernández-Del-Olmo, Félix, Gaudioso, Elena y Santos, Carlos . The challenge is, however, to provide easy, quick and relevant access to the vast amount of information that is available. One step towards facilitating information access to online health data is opinion mining. Even though the classification of patient opinions into positive and negative has been previously tackled, most works make use of machine learning methods and bags of words. Our first contribution is an extensive evaluation of different features, including lexical, syntactic, semantic, network-based, sentiment-based and word embeddings features to represent patient-authored texts for polarity classification. The second contribution of this work is the study of polar facts (i.e. objective information with polar connotations). Traditionally, the presence of polar facts has been neglected and research in polarity classification has been bounded to opinionated texts. We demonstrate the existence and importance of polar facts for the polarity classification of health information. Material and methods We annotate a set of more than 3500 posts to online health forums of breast cancer, crohn and different allergies, respectively. Each sentence in a post is manually labeled as “experience”, “fact” or “opinion”, and as “positive”, “negative” and “neutral”. Using this data, we train different machine learning algorithms and compare traditional bags of words representations with word embeddings in combination with lexical, syntactic, semantic, network-based and emotional properties of texts to automatically classify patient-authored contents into positive, negative and neutral. Beside, we experiment with a combination of textual and semantic representations by generating concept embeddings using the UMLS Metathesaurus. Results We reach two main results: first, we find that it is possible to predict polarity of patient-authored contents with a very high accuracy (≈ 70 percent) using word embeddings, and that this considerably outperforms more traditional representations like bags of words; and second, when dealing with medical information, negative and positive facts (i.e. objective information) are nearly as frequent as negative and positive opinions and experiences (i.e. subjective information), and their importance for polarity classification is crucial.0352Carrillo de Albornoz, Jorge, Rodríguez-Vidal, Javier y Plaza, Laura . Entity-based filtering and topic detection For online reputation monitoring in Twitter . 2014. Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (España).
