Applications such as Scratch have been demonstrated to be effective in educational environments. The aim of this study is to assess the use of a Visual Pro- gramming Language using Scratch in classroom practice, analyzing the outcomes and at- titudes of 107 primary school students from 5th to 6th grade in five different schools in Spain. The intervention takes place in two academic years analyzing the practice of inte- grating coding and visual blocks programming in sciences and arts. The “Computational concepts and computational practices” dimension details a quasi-experimental approach, which showed significant improvement regarding learning programming concepts, logic, and computational practices with an active approach. The “Learning processes and coding in primary education” dimension analyzes the practice of the experimental group through questionnaires and structured observation. In this pedagogical design, students interact and create their own content related to curricular areas with several advantages, such as motivation, fun, commitment, and enthusiasm, showing improvements related to computational thinking and computational practices. Understanding of computational concepts through an active approach, Project Based Learning, usefulness, motivation, and commitment underline the importance and effectiveness of implementing a Visual Pro- gramming Language from active methodologies in primary education. Due to the afore- mentioned benefits and positive results obtained in this research, it is recommended to implement a Visual Programming Language in educational settings in 5th and 6th grade in primary education through a cross-curricular implementation.03322Sáez López, José Manuel, Román González, Marcos y Vázquez Cano, Esteban . On these grounds, I analyse the distinction between civil and ecclesiastical criminal law. Both State and Church were granted by Calvin a ius gladii, but only the former can claim a right to impose physical punishment, whereas the latter should just punish spiritually. Here lays, in my view, the difference between law and discipline.05762García Alonso, Marta . A systematic literature review and bibliometric analysisbibliuned:DptoEEC-FCEE-Articulos-Rarguedas-0001Blockchain has emerged as an innovative technology with potential to transform business management, through operational efficiency improvements. Nevertheless, several performance and vulnerability issues have been identified for the different typologies supporting the wide range of blockchain-based applications currently implemented in different domains. A variety of analytical and empirical models are being used to evaluate the issues associated with the different blockchain typologies, enabling systematic analyses of the corresponding efficiency impact, and technical or economic threats. A thorough systematic literature review of these models has been performed, followed by a detailed assessment on the way these models have been employed, and the target parameters and applications evaluated (336 research selected and analysed). We propose a co-classification of these models, allowing us to identify which ones are employed to a greater extent to address the different blockchain issues in scientific research. In a second step, a bibliometric analysis on the selected research is conducted, offering a complementary overview of the status of and trends in blockchain modelling, including the most prolific authors and leading contributing countries to the topic. The main outcome and contribution of the paper is the provision of a broad overview on how blockchain issues have been analytically tackled, through the synthesis and meta-analysis of the models used in the scientific literature since the inception of blockchain technology. The results have two main direct applications, firstly supporting novel vulnerability and performance analyses of existing blockchain applications by providing historical information on the models used so far, as well as the key parameters and typology of the blockchain-based applications evaluated. Secondly, in the implementation of new applications, by allowing the recognition of key issues identified that are associated with the different blockchain typologies and to determine the most suitable models to analyse the weaknesses and risks of the alternative designs under evaluation for these new implementations.01052Rico-Peña, Juan Jesús, Arguedas-Sanz, Raquel y López-Martín, Carmen . Among the many proposals, wireless indoor localization mechanisms based on the Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) are being widely explored. Most studies have focused on the evaluation of the capabilities of different mobile device brands and wireless network technologies. Furthermore, different parameters and algorithms have been proposed as a means of improving the accuracy of wireless-based localization mechanisms. In this paper, we focus on the tuning of the RSSI fingerprint to be used in the implementation of a Bluetooth Low Energy 4.0 (BLE4.0) Bluetooth localization mechanism. Following a holistic approach, we start by assessing the capabilities of two Bluetooth sensor/receiver devices. We then evaluate the relevance of the RSSI fingerprint reported by each BLE4.0 beacon operating at various transmission power levels using feature selection techniques. Based on our findings, we use two classification algorithms in order to improve the setting of the transmission power levels of each of the BLE4.0 beacons. Our main findings show that our proposal can greatly improve the localization accuracy by setting a custom transmission power level for each BLE4.0 beacon.0382Castillo Cara, Manuel, <a class="citation_author_name" title="Navegar por nombre de Autor de Lovón Melgarejo. It focuses on an aspect of these parents’ strategies regarding disclosure (or non-disclosure) of their children’s origins which has received very little attention in the research in this field: the indirect strategies implemented in contexts beyond the parents-children dyad. The parents use these strategies to establish an environment in which the child can create an image of her- or himself as normal and non-exceptional, for which they intervene in their social networks mainly by controlling the information circulating through them and that, therefore, can reach the child. Three main contexts in which the parents implement these strategies have been identified: the extended family, the school, and family associations. The analysis of disclosure (or non-disclosure) strategies in these contexts provides some suggestions to improve professional intervention in this area.0362Jociles, María Isabel, Lores, Fernando y Konvalinka, Nancy . While current outdoor localization mechanisms fulfill most application requirements, the design of accurate indoor localization mechanisms is still an open issue. Most research efforts are focusing on the design of mechanisms making use of the receiver signal strength indications generated by WLAN (wireless local area network) devices. However, the accuracy and robustness of such mechanisms can be severely compromised due to the random and unpredictable nature of radio channels. In this article, we develop a methodology incorporating various algorithms capable of coping with the unpredictable nature of radio channels. Following a holistic approach, we start by identifying the wireless equipment parameter setting, better meeting the implementation requirements of a robust indoor localization mechanism. We then make use of RANdom SAmple Consensus paradigm: a robust model-fitting mechanism capable of smoothing the data captured during the space survey. Using an experimental setup, we evaluate the benefits of integrating the floor plan and an ordinary Kriging interpolation algorithm in the estimation process. Our main findings show that our proposal can greatly improve the quality of the information to be used in the development of particle-filter-based indoor localization mechanisms.0322Martínez Gómez, Jesús, Martínez del Horno, Miguel, Castillo Cara, Manuel, Brea Luján, Victor Manuel, Orozco Barbosa, Luis y García Varea, Ismael . In this article, we undertake the design and implementation of a wireless multisensor platform following the fog computing paradigm. Our main contributions are the integration of various off-the-shelf sensors smartly packaged into an air-flow module and the evaluation of the communications services offered implemented on top of two low-power radio communications technologies. Our study is complemented by evaluating the communi- cations services over a wired link. Our results show the superiority of LoRaWAN over ZigBee in terms of power consumption despite its slightly higher computational requirements and an estimation of the gap between the resource usage of the wired link and the two wireless radio technologies.0292Vera-Panez, Michael, Cuadros-Claro, Kewin, Castillo-Cara, Manuel y Orozco-Barbosa, Luis . It is mainly designed to describe systems using the physical modeling approach. Our proposal to describe Agent-Based Models (ABMs) in Modelica is discussed in this manuscript. The contribution of the presented work is twofold: firstly, to analyze the conceptual requirements to describe ABMs in Modelica; and secondly, to develop a prototype implementation following the previous analysis. Agents are described using a message passing communication mechanism previously proposed by the authors. Additional extensions to this mechanism are proposed in order to describe agent interactions. The environment, where the agents live, is described as a two-dimensional cellular automaton. A new Modelica library, named ABMLib, developed to support this functionality, is presented. A prototype implementation of the message passing mechanism and ABMLib models has been performed to demonstrate the functionality of the library as a proof-of-concept for this proposal. The research presents three dimensions oriented to assessing the use of this application in a didactic unit “History and Architecture” compared through statistical inference (t-student) to a control group that develops the same unit with slides and traditional expositional methods. The second dimension values the attitudes of teachers, students and parents regarding the implementation of video games in formal education using descriptive analysis and nonparametric statistical inference through the Jonckheere-Terpstra test and the Kruskal-Wallis test, which allows each group ranks to be compared. The third dimension analyzes interactions in a virtual learning environment related to the implementation of MinecraftEdu. Although there are no significant improvements regarding academic outcomes and some parents hold negative attitudes, it is noteworthy that the majority of the sample considered that MinecraftEdu is fun, enhances creativity, develops discovery and is a good application for creating and exploring immersive historical environments.07792Sáez López, José Manuel, Miller, John, Vázquez Cano, Esteban and Domínguez Garrido, María Concepción . We try to show how this justification varies according to the view on probability we adopt and the different ethical cases that can be made to sustain it. We will see that both the frequentist and the Bayesian approaches to the design of clinical trials are equally defensible on these grounds. We will defend that to be socially acceptable both approaches must meet an impartiality requirement, which is best served by the technique of randomisation.09202García Alonso, Marta y Teira Serrano, David . Traditional approaches as Ashby maps based on material properties are widely used in the industry. However, in the production of multimaterial components, the criteria for the selection can include antagonistic approaches. The aim of this work is the implementation of a methodology based on the results of process simulations for several materials and classify them by applying an advanced data analytics method based on Machine Learning (ML), in this case the Support Vector Regression (SVR) and Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) meth- odologies, specifically Multi-criteria Optimization and Compromise Solution (VIKOR) combined with Entropy weighting methods. In order to do this, a Finite Element Model (FEM) has been built to evaluate the extrusion force and the die wear in a multi-material co-extrusion process of bimetallic Ti6Al4V-AZ31B billets. After applying SVR and VIKOR combined with Entropy weighting methodologies, a comparison has been established based on the material selection and complexity of the methodology used, resulting that material chosen in both methodologies is very similar and MCDM method is easier to implement because there is no need of evaluate the error of the prediction model and the time for data preprocessing is less than the time needed in SVR. This new methodology is proven to be effective as alternative to the traditional approaches and aligned with the new trends in the industry based on simulation and data analytics.0372Fernández , Daniel, Rodríguez-Prieto, Álvaro y Camacho, Ana María . There is an initial interest in introducing a social component in these policies. This brief investigation reviews the actions carried out to date and reflects on their implementation. The European Commission has launched several regional policy pilots, which could help in the definition of new industrial transition policies, but these policies require to progress in their practical implementation, in order to obtain the expected results, thus mitigating the social impacts that the transition may cause in the regions of Europe. From the analysis of the pilots and the state of the art, we propose some recommendations to operationalize these policies, based mainly in an appropriate policy mix, consideration of the spatial components, involvement of the stakeholders, and the use of bottom-up and neo-endogenous approaches.0292Navío Marco, Julio, Bujidos Casado, María y Rodrígues Fernández, María . Regarding this last one, the particular thermodynamic cycle layout and the working fluid employed, have a decisive influence in the plant performance. In turn, this selection depends on the solar technology employed. Currently, the steam Rankine cycle is the most widespread and commercially available power block option, usually coupled to a parabolic trough solar field. However, other configurations have been implemented in solar thermal plants worldwide. Most of them are based on other solar technologies coupled to a steam Rankine cycle, although integrated solar Combined cycles have a significant level of implementation. In the first place, power block configurations based on conventional thermodynamic cycles -Rankine, Brayton and combined Brayton-Rankine- are described. The achievements and challenges of each proposal are highlighted, for example, the benefits involved in hybrid solar source/fossil fuel plants. In the second place, proposals of advanced power block configuration are analyzed, standing out: supercritical CO2 Brayton cycles, advanced organic cycles and innovative integrated solar combined cycles. Each of these proposals show some advantages compared to the conventional layouts in certain power or source temperature ranges and hence they could be considered attractive options in the medium term. At last, a brief review of proposals of solar thermal integration with other renewable heat sources is also included.02892Muñoz, Marta, Rovira, Antonio y Montes, María José . These systems are machines with a high capacity for communication, sensing and self-diagnosis, although they are susceptible to failures, breakdowns and a loss of reliability. The amount of data they provide as a productive system and, individually, as a machine can be treated to improve customized maintenance plans. The objective of this work, with an operational scope, is to collect and exploit the knowledge acquired in the industrial plant on failures and breakdowns based on its historical data. The acquisition of the aforementioned data is channeled through the human intellectual capital of the work groups formed for this purpose. Once this knowledge is acquired and available in a worksheet format according to the Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) methodology, it is implemented using Case-Based Reasoning algorithms in a Java application developed for this purpose to carry out the process of RCM, accessing a base of similar cases that can be adapted. This operational definition allows for the control of the maintenance function of an industrial plant in the short term, with a weekly horizon, to design a maintenance plan adjusted to the reality of the plant in its current operating context, which may differ greatly from the originally projected plan or from any other plan caused by new production requirements. This new plan designed as such will apply changes to the equipment, which make up the production system, as a consequence of the adaptation to the changing market demand. As a result, a computer application has been designed, implemented and validated that allows, through the incorporation of RCM cases already successfully carried out on the productive system of the plant, for the development of a customized maintenance plan through an assistant, which, in a conductive way, guides the plant maintenance engineer through their design process, minimizing human error and design time and leveraging existing intellectual capital.0332Rodríguez-Padial, Néstor, Marín, Marta M. y Domingo, Rosario .
This article analyzes the European Court of Humans Rights’ jurisprudence
on right to vote (article 3 of Protocol n.º I ). For this purpose,
it must be acknowledged a subjective dimension too which defines
the legal status of citizen in its relations with the public authorities
that can be specified in the principle of universal, equal and free suffrage,
an objective dimension as an structural element of Democracy
and what creates positive obligations to public authorities in order to
implement the content of the right: «to ensure the free expression of
the opinion of the people in the choice of the legislature». However,
the development of positive obligations on the basis of Article 3 of
Protocol No. 1 goes no further than this. So, the Court considers that
this provision does not require the States to implement a specific electoral
system or electoral rules because the State enjoys a wide margin
of appreciation when assessing restrictions of these rights.06772Pérez Alberdi, María Reyes . The study analyzes attitudes and needs of 424 teachers and it assesses teaching practices developed with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Data is analyzed through mixed methods with various instruments using descriptive analysis, factor analysis and a detailed analysis regarding teaching practice from 21 cases. In conclusion, one third of teachers properly integrate Educational Technology into practice. Moreover 62% of teachers support the applied one laptop per child policy and have positive feedback in this regard, however two thirds of the teachers in the sample integrate technology with isolated activities, adapting persisting traditional pedagogical models. There are deficiencies concerning school performance, group work, problem solving and communication in learning activities. Therefore, students need educational guidance for the appropriate use of ICT in the learning process.02962Sáez López, José Manuel y Rodriguez Torres, Javier . From early graph models to more recent native graph databases, the landscape of implementations has evolved to cover enterprise-ready requirements. Because of the interconnected nature of its data, the biomedical domain has been one of the early adopters of graph databases, enabling more natural representation models and better data integration workflows, exploration and analysis facilities. In this work, we survey the literature to explore the evolution, performance and how the most recent graph database solutions are applied in the biomedical domain, compiling a great variety of use cases. With this evidence, we conclude that the available graph database management systems are fit to support data-intensive, integrative applications, targeted at both basic research and exploratory tasks closer to the clinic.0202Timón-Reina, Santiago, Rincón, Mariano y Martínez Tomás, Rafael . Message passing communication (MPC), seen as the transmission of impulses of information between model components, eases the description of the discrete-event parts of CPS models. However, Modelica does not currently supports MPC. Modelica supports an equation-based component connection rationale, where Modelica tools automatically transform component connections into model equations, following a physical modeling approach. The differences between MPC and Modelica connections are analyzed. A proposal for supporting MPC in Modelica is presented, inspired by the coupled PDEVS model communication approach. The presented MPC proposal is based on the definition of structures to manage messages, named buffers, interface ports and communication channels. Also, an implementation of the proposed MPC mechanism in the form of a new free Modelica library, named MSGLib, is presented. MSGLib includes functionality to manage and dynamically store messages, and describe component communications. Two examples, a pick and place system and a robotic arm, are presented to demonstrate the use of the library, and its combination with other Modelica models.0372Sanz Prat, Victorino y Urquia, Alfonso . Through the working hypothesis, it was established that the Iberian country has a wide margin for improvement in the context of digitalization. Likewise, that NGEU forms a key impulse for the recovery from the crisis caused by Covid-19, as well as for the implementation of new digital technologies in Spain. The use of the Digital Economy and Society Index, developed by the European Commission, has allowed us to carry out empirical research. The evaluation of the current situation and the progress of Spain in the field of analysis, as well as the putting it in perspective regarding the rest of the Member States, have been undertaken. Moreover, the Eurostat database has been employed, in addition to the estimations of the Spanish executive exposed through the Digital Agenda 2025, to examine investment in R&D and intangible assets and try to assess the importance of the EU recovery fund for Spain's development and progress in the digitization framework. Finally, the hypothesis and the objectives have been achieved0492Czubala Ostapiuk, Marcin Roman y Benedicto Solsona, Miguel Ángel .
