In this paper I analyse the references —especially literary sources and
iconography— dealing with the water cults in Preroman Spain. The scope
of the research is limited only to the colonial áreas such as Phoenicians,
Greeks and Punios and, in the second part, to the Iberian one. In the colonies
this cult was endowed with a multiplicity of functions such as oracular,
sacred and curatives powers. Iconography is the main way we dispose
as an approach to the different notions of water amongst the Iberians.
But iconography is often vague and ambiguous, for symbols have a
multiplicity of contextual meanings.07452Olmos, Ricardo .
This article analyzes the role played by the
Romanesque theme of the Victorious
Rider in the context of the struggle against
Islam. The details of several stone
carvings reveal that the defeated figure
could represent a Muslim praying as an
idolater. In addition, the study of the
Christian perception of Muslims
demonstrates the connection between the
Crusader’s ideology and the notion of the
defeat of idolatry evoked by the
Horseman. Therefore, the identity of the
Rider itself, who has been traditionally
considered as Constantine, can be
understood in a more general and
symbolic sense according to the religious

Francoist forces, it was necessary to
exteriorise adherence to the principles of
the nationalist side, in order to avoid

the war, and even more so in the
immediate post-war years, the ideological
universe of the so-called ‘nationalists’-an
amalgam in which fascist and traditionalist
elements mixed-impregnated all social
spheres, including commercial advertising,
which became a variant of the political
propaganda. Businesses extensively used
the iconography, slogans, symbols and
rituals of the «New Spain» in their
advertising: the Imperial epic, Spanish
nationalism, Catholic traditionalism, the
stigmatisation of Republican Spain,
bicolour flags, national escutcheons,
raised arms..., although this would be
done under the strict control of the State,
which revised and controlled, through the
censorship mechanisms, all of the
contents delivered by the media channels,
including advertising, with an impressive
This work is an approach on the
subject of the armament of Hitita (it
also deals with the Kingdoms that
were somehow related with Hatti), the
historie relation of the towns were
cióse to, and influenced by Hatti. It
deals with the subject utilising
material never before used in this
country.
Dr. Alonso y Royano is mainly
interested in the socio-político aspect
of the ancient times, predominately in
the juridical field. It is fortúnate that if
the field of armoury does not enter
into his área of specialisation, this
conforms to his socio-politico
interests, this combined the judicial
the judicial angle is, how he deals
with the topic.
The hitilologists have deait with the
history form many different angles,
but never from the armamentarium
aspect, this coupled with diplomacy Is
what causes an Empire to maintain
itself more or less in ancient times.
This work on the Iconography of the
armoury of Hatti could be conceived
as more of an invitation to specialists
of this subject (if, indeed such a thing
exists) to help alústrate the subject
The promotion to the imperial dignity by the Flavian dynasty was deeply marked by a severe psychological crisis of the population, derived from the various disasters that occurred during the civil wars framed in the “Year of the Four Emperors” and the destruction of the temple of Iuppiter. Classical sources, epigraphy and numismatic iconography were converted in this context in the propaganda media and religious legitimization of the political power of Vespasian and his sons. Vespasian, as rebuilder of the Capitol, will be identified as the restorer of the city itself, as the ultimate guarantor of the will of the gods. In this article we will try to identify the keys of the flavian propaganda system from the sources of the period and to investigate the religious model created specifically for the identifying the emperor with the maintaining of the integrity of the empire under the aegis of the main divinity of the Roman pantheon: Iuppiter Optimus Maximus.08172Escámez de Vera, Diego .
