During the seventeenth century, diplomatic
relations between Spain and France were
sporadic due to several disruptions
because of wars between both countries.
Shortly after the Pyrenees Peace Treaty, a
period of active correspondence was
initiated and the archbishop of Embrun
was sent to Madrid to represent Louis XIV
at the Spanish court. At the same time the
marquis de la Fuente was sent to Paris to
represent Felipe IV at the French court.
Both the reception and the stay of the two
ambassadors were signs of the difficulties
of a time (1660-1667) dominated by Louis
XIV s non-fulfillment of the Pyrenees
Peace Treaty.05532<a class="citation_author_name" title="Browse by Author Name for Yetano, Isabel" href="/fez/list/author/Yetano, Isabel/">Yetano, Isabel</a> .
dedicaba a tales fines.05942<a class="citation_author_name" title="Browse by Author Name for Schulze Schneider, Ingrid" href="/fez/list/author/Schulze Schneider, Ingrid/">Schulze Schneider, Ingrid</a> .
