The growing interest in the use of IoT technologies has led to the development of numerous diverse applications, many of which are based on the knowledge of the end user's location and profile. This paper investigates the characterization of Bluetooth signals behavior using 12 different supervised learning algorithms as a first step toward the development of fingerprint-based localization mechanisms. We then explore the use of metaheuristics to determine the best radio power transmission setting evaluated in terms of accuracy and mean error of the localization mechanism. We further tune-up the supervised algorithm hyperparameters. A comparative evaluation of the 12 supervised learning and two metaheuristics algorithms under two different system parameter settings provide valuable insights into the use and capabilities of the various algorithms on the development of indoor localization mechanisms.0412Lovón Melgarejo, Jesús, Castillo Cara, Manuel, Huarcaya Canal, Oscar, Orozco Barbos, Luis y García Varea, Ismael . Current theories suggest there may be two processes responsible for the development of behavioral patterns displayed by organisms and quantitative timing measures within an interreinforcement interval (IRI): induction and response-reinforcer proximity. Previous studies on the issue have failed to demonstrate the scalar property in schedule-induced behaviors, arguing that its absence was due to the lack of an explicit response-reinforcer contingency. To test this hypothesis, a conjunctive schedule of food reinforcement was arranged so that the development of schedule-induced drinking (SID) occurred under stricter control than mere contiguity. Rats were divided into three groups, depending on the value of the fixed-time (FT) schedule used; and all were exposed to a conjunctive FT (15-, 30- or 60-s) fixed-ratio 10 schedule. Preliminary results show that the scalar property is not properly manifested; however, a more comprehensive data analysis on timing measures such as time of transition and last lick do point to a certain scalarity of induced behaviors. Perhaps key to these results are the high variability encountered in FT-60 group, which allows for more proper inter-group comparisons that do show scalarity of SID in terms of duration but not rate. Theoretical implications of these results are discussed.0Doctoral Thesis3602Reina Hidalgo, Antonio Jesús. While state-of-the-art automatic speech recognition (ASR) models have taken a big step in speech transcription, creating quality subtitles still requires human intervention. This project has two main aspects: evaluating cutting-edge ASR models for speech-to-text, and developing a package that uses this ASR models to generate high-quality and compliant subtitles. ASR models do not inherently provide results suitable for subtitles. Therefore, one of the primary objectives of this package is to utilize and enhance the output generated by ASR models to create subtitles of a quality that requires minimal human modification. This enhancement is necessary because ASR models alone are incapable of producing subtitles that meet the required standards of quality. Speak2Subs has achieved this goal, being a tool that produces high-quality subtitles with minimal human interaction.0Doctoral Thesis432Fresneda García, Julio. Several types of PGMs have been proposed in the last two decades. However, there are some problems for which none of these types are appropriate. For example, none of the types of PGMs proposed has been widely adopted for representing and solving asymmetric decision problems. Decision analysis networks (DANs) have been recently proposed by our research group and they needed efficient evaluation algorithms in order to be applicable to real-world problems. In this thesis, I propose a new algorithm that evaluates DANs by recursively decomposing them into a set of symmetric DANs, which can then be evaluated with standard algorithms, such as variable elimination or arc reversal. The efficiency of this algorithm matches that of the algorithms proposed for other asymmetric representations. Similarly, existing types of PGMs were not apt as dynamic modeling methods for cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA). The existing dynamic PGMs are burdened by the complexity of their evaluation and can only solve unicriterion problems. Only Markov infuence diagrams (MIDs), a more restricted type of dynamic PGMs also proposed by our research group, are suitable to build complex dynamic models to perform CEA. I have developed new types of potentials and new sensitivity analysis algorithms, with which I have been able to replicate as MIDs several models proposed in the literature and to build two new models for CEA: one for malignant pleural effusion and another one for mammography screening. Finally, with the help of an expert, we have built a decision-support system for cochlear implant programming (i.e., parameter tuning) based on PGMs. In this thesis, we also describe tuning networks, a new type of PGM we developed because existing PGMs were not suitable to model the behavior of systems with a high number of tunable parameters. This decision-support system is now routinely used at a hearing clinic in Antwerp (Belgium) to assist audiologists in the programming of cochlear implants. All the contributions to PGMs described in this thesis have been implemented in OpenMarkov, an open-source software tool developed at the UNED, and are publicly available.0Doctoral Thesis6152Bermejo Delgado, Iñigo. New types of probabilistic graphical models: applications to medicine . 2015. Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (España). A computational studybibliuned:DptoMCC-FPSI-Articulos-Jamartinez-0019In this study, we analyzed the relationship between the amodal (semantic) development of words and two popular emotional norms (emotional valence and arousal) in English and Spanish languages. To do so, we combined the strengths of semantics from vector space models (vector length, semantic diversity, and word maturity measures), and feature-based models of emotions. First, we generated a common vector space representing the meaning of words at different developmental stages (five and four developmental stages for English and Spanish, respectively) using the Word Maturity methodology to align different vector spaces. Second, we analyzed the amodal development of words through mixed-effects models with crossed random effects for words and variables using a continuous time metric. Third, the emotional norms were included as covariates in the statistical models. We evaluated more than 23,000 words, whose emotional norms were available for more than 10,000 words, in each language separately. Results showed a curve of amodal development with an increasing linear effect and a small quadratic deceleration. A relevant influence on the amodal development of words was found only for emotional valence (not for arousal), suggesting that positive words have an earlier amodal development and a less pronounced semantic change across early lifespan.0232Martínez-Huertas, José Ángel, Jorge-Botana, Guillermo, Martínez-Mingo, Alejandro, Iglesias, Diego y Olmos, Ricardo . Decision trees, the standard decision modeling technique for non-temporal domains, can only perform CEAs for very small problems. Influence diagrams can model much larger problems, but only when the decisions are totally ordered. Objective To develop a CEA method for problems with unordered or partially ordered decisions, such as finding the optimal sequence of tests for diagnosing a disease. Methods We explain how to model those problems using decision analysis networks (DANs), a new type of probabilistic graphical model, somewhat similar to Bayesian networks and influence diagrams. We present an algorithm for evaluating DANs with two criteria, cost and effectiveness, and perform some experiments to study its computational efficiency. We illustrate the representation framework and the algorithm using a hypothetical example involving two therapies and several tests and then present a DAN for a real-world problem, the mediastinal staging of non-small cell lung cancer. Results The evaluation of a DAN with two criteria, cost and effectiveness, returns a set of intervals for the willingness to pay, separated by incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs). The cost, the effectiveness, and the optimal intervention are specific for each interval, i.e., they depend on the willingness to pay. Conclusion Problems involving several unordered decisions can be modeled with DANs and evaluated in a reasonable amount of time. OpenMarkov, an open-source software tool developed by our research group, can be used to build the models and evaluate them using a graphical user interface.0332Díez, Francisco Javier, Luque, Manuel, Arias, Manuel y Pérez-Martín, Jorge . Biogas has emerged to avoid the intensification of global warming and promote waste valorization. However, undesirable chemicals must be removed prior to its utilization. Siloxanes stand out as biogas contaminants since they can damage process equipment’s. Therefore, in this work, COSMO-based/Aspen Plus computational methodology was applied to evaluate, as first-time, ionic liquids (ILs) as siloxanes absorbents on biogas upgrading context. Thus, molecular simulation using COSMO-RS method was used to analyze the interactions between siloxanes/ILs based on excess properties. Moreover, it was used to select the most promising ILs among a wide sample (9 0 0) of solvents for latter process simulation stage based on thermodynamics (Henry’s law constants) and kinetics (low viscosity). The results revealed that ILs with fluorinated anions are the best for the task. Then, the performance of selected ILs on siloxane capture at industrial scale was evaluated by means of Aspen Plus process simulations. Thus, the absorption efficiency in a packed column was analyzed by comparing the silicon concentration in outlet gas stream for each IL, using a rigorous RADFRAC column in Rate-base mode. Operating pressure inside the column was also studied as key operating variable. Last, simulations of the complete siloxane capture processes were carried out to treat a realistic biogas stream, including the analysis of both absorption and regeneration columns. Process simulation results revealed that thermodynamics is the key property for the selection of ILs for siloxanes capture. Moreover, most of the selected ILs can satisfy silicon outlet concentration legislation (< 5 mgSi/Nm3 ) in almost all the studied operating conditions. Last, solvent regeneration using air stripping column demonstrated the reversibility of the process in mild conditions of temperature (100 °C) and vacuum pressure (0.1 bar). In sum, ILs are proposed as promising siloxanes absorbents of siloxanes-containing streams, mainly focused on biogas upgrading.0462Santiago, Rubén, Moya, Cristian y Palomar, José . Several methods, such as the half-cycle correction and the life-table method, were developed to attenuate the error introduced in Markov models by the discretization of time. Elbasha and Chhatwal have proposed alternative “corrections” based on numerical integration techniques. They present an example whose results suggest that the trapezoidal rule, which is equivalent to the half-cycle correction, is not as accurate as Simpson’s 1/3 and 3/8 rules. However, they did not take into consideration the impact of discontinuities. Objective. To propose a method for evaluating Markov models with discontinuities. Design. Applying the trapezoidal rule, we derive a method that consists of adjusting the model by setting the cost at each point of discontinuity to the mean of the left and right limits of the cost function. We then take from the literature a model with a cycle length of 1 year and a discontinuity on the cost function and compare our method with other “corrections” using as the gold standard an equivalent model with a cycle length of 1 day. Results. As expected, for this model, the life-table method is more accurate than assuming that transitions occur at the beginning or the end of cycles. The application of numerical integration techniques without taking into account the discontinuity causes large errors. The model with averaged cost values yields very small errors, especially for the trapezoidal and the 1/3 Simpson rules. Conclusion. In the case of discontinuities, we recommend applying the trapezoidal rule on an averaged model because this method has a mathematical justification, and in our empirical evaluation, it was more accurate than the sophisticated 3/8 Simpson rule.08272Pérez-Martín, Jorge, Bermejo, Iñigo y Díez, Francisco J. . On the other hand, other research lines have recently explored the phenomenon of Economic Complexity (EC), providing new metrics to quantify this decisive factor for the prediction of economic growth and other human relevant variables. This article explores these two trends with the construction of two composite indexes. Then, it evaluates their explanatory power to predict economic growth, first separately, and afterwards together. The results show they can predict economic growth and improve their predictive capacity by working combined. In the conclusions, some difficulties and challenges for the development of these metrics are analyzed0402Jurado González, Javier y Gómez Barroso, José Luis . However, most encoders have been developed for the English language. This work presents the first study of three text-to-face encoders, namely, the RoBERTa pre-trained model and the Sent2Vec and RoBERTa models, trained with the CelebA dataset in Spanish. It then introduces customised and fine-tuned conditional Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks (cDCGANs) trained with the CelebA dataset for text-to-face generation in Spanish. To validate the results obtained, a qualitative evaluation was carried out with a visual analysis and a quantitative evaluation based on the IS, FID and LPIPS metrics. Our findings show promising results with respect to the literature, improving the numerical metrics of FID and LPIPS by 5% and 37%, respectively. Our results also show, through a quantitative–qualitative comparison of the cDCGAN training epochs, that the IS metric is not a reliable objective metric to be considered in the evaluation of similar works0332Yauri-Lozano, Eduardo, Castillo-Cara, Manuel, Orozco-Barbosa, Luis y García-Castro, Raúl . The increased risk of developing this syndrome resulting from established modifiable risk factors, such as depressive episodes, is currently a subject of interest. The aim of this study was to review the scientific evidence that addresses the relationship between depression and dementia. A bibliographic search of the PubMed and PsycInfo databases for articles published over the past 20 years was conducted with the following medical subject heading terms: depression or depressive, dementia, and incidence or cohort studies. After articles meeting the inclusion criteria were selected, relevant moderating variables were grouped as sample characteristics, methodological characteristics, extrinsic characteristics, and outcome variables. The 26 selected studies resulted in a sample comprising 1,760,262 individuals. Statistical analysis revealed a pooled relative risk for the development of dementia of 1.82 (95% CI=1.62–2.06). The primary variables evaluated were the diagnostic methods for depression and dementia and the presence of depression. Other variables, such as mean age, methodological quality of each study, follow-up time, and publication year, were also evaluated. Age was statistically but not clinically significant. No relevant publication bias or alterations in the results were found when accounting for the quality of the studies. It is recommended that new moderating variables be evaluated or that existing variables be reformulated in future studies.0392Fernández Fernández, Roberto, Íbias, Javier y Maciá Antón, María Araceli . The study was part of an investigation into ubiquitous learning with mobile devices and is based on the analysis of responses from a sample of 203 university students at eleven European and Latin American universities. Participants were asked questions about their performance on a set of digital activities that tested various components of digital competence. The analysis methodology was based on Item Response Theory (IRT). The survey data was analysed by applying a statistical model to represent the probability of obtaining an affirmative answer to each activity proposed. This enabled us to identify the difficulty and discrimination parameters of each activity. As an outcome of the study, measures on latent digital competence in individual participants were articulated. The results allowed us to describe how a number of devices and activities interacted. Understanding these types of interactions is necessary for a continued development of the evaluation of digital competence in students.0432Leví Orta, Genoveva del Carmen, Sevillano García, Luisa y Vázquez Cano, Esteban . Relational frame theory suggests the existence of two main functional types of RGB termed pliance and tracking. In this paper, we describe the development of the Generalized Tracking Questionnaire (GTQ) and the preliminary evaluation of its psychometric properties and validity through three studies, with a total of 1155 participants. In Study 1, a pool of items describing the main characteristics of generalized tracking was designed and evaluated by experts on the RFT account of RGB. The resulting 11 items were administered to 460 undergraduates to examine the understandability and psychometric quality of the items. The exploratory factor analysis indicated that the GTQ can be seen as a unidimensional scale, with all items exhibiting high factor loadings and corrected item-total correlations. In Study 2, the GTQ was administered online to a sample of 464 non-clinical participants and a clinical sample of 125 participants. The one-factor model of the GTQ obtained a good fit in the conducted confirmatory factor analysis. The GTQ showed measurement invariance across gender and clinical and nonclinical participants. It also obtained excellent internal consistency and correlated in theoretically coherent ways with other constructs. In Study 3, the GTQ and a neuropsychological battery of executive functions were administered to 105 participants. The GTQ showed statistically significant, medium-size correlations with working memory tests, verbal fluency, planning, and behavioral inhibition. In conclusion, the GTQ seems to be a promising measure to advance in the empirical analysis of functional classes of RGB.0362<a class="citation_author_name" title="Navegar por nombre de Autor de Ruiz, F. Despite all the research, there is still no consensus on the best way to assess and treat them. Traditional assessment of personality disorders has focused on a limited number of psychological constructs or behaviors using structured interviews and questionnaires, without an integrated and holistic approach. We present a novel methodology for the study and assessment of personality disorders consisting in the development of a Bayesian network, whose parameters have been obtained by the Delphi method of consensus from a group of experts in the diagnosis and treatment of personality disorders. The result is a probabilistic graphical model that represents the psychological variables related to the personality disorders along with their relations and conditional probabilities, which allow identifying the symptoms with the highest diagnostic potential. This model can be used, among other applications, as a decision support system for the assessment and treatment of personality disorders of the dramatic or emotional cluster. In this paper, we discuss the need to validate this model in the clinical population along with its strengths and limitations.0362García-Franco,Jose D., Díez, Francisco J. y Carrasco Ortiz, Miguel Angel . Through the working hypothesis, it was established that the Iberian country has a wide margin for improvement in the context of digitalization. Likewise, that NGEU forms a key impulse for the recovery from the crisis caused by Covid-19, as well as for the implementation of new digital technologies in Spain. The use of the Digital Economy and Society Index, developed by the European Commission, has allowed us to carry out empirical research. The evaluation of the current situation and the progress of Spain in the field of analysis, as well as the putting it in perspective regarding the rest of the Member States, have been undertaken. Moreover, the Eurostat database has been employed, in addition to the estimations of the Spanish executive exposed through the Digital Agenda 2025, to examine investment in R&D and intangible assets and try to assess the importance of the EU recovery fund for Spain's development and progress in the digitization framework. Finally, the hypothesis and the objectives have been achieved0502Czubala Ostapiuk, Marcin Roman y Benedicto Solsona, Miguel Ángel . The present study aims at the development and validation of a scale to measure self-perceived menopausal voice-related limitation to work in FPVUs, henceforth the Menopausal Voice-Related Work Limitation Scale (MenoVWL). Methods Items were drawn from previous studies on impacts of sex steroid hormones on voice, available validated scales, and in-depth interviews with post-menopausal FPVUs. A preliminary version with 16 items was evaluated by a panel of 15 voice experts. The resulting revised version was filled in online, together with questions on current endocrinological reproductive status and related symptoms, history of amenorrhea, professional occupation, and demographic information. Responses concerning only professional voice users were selected and inclusive and exclusive criteria were applied for correct allocation of participants into pre- and post-menopausal stages within a restrict age range;192 responses were subject to factorial analysis for MenoVWL validation. Cronbach's alpha measured internal reliability. The scale was tested by comparing MenoVWL scores between pre- and post-menopausal FPVUs (98 and 94, respectively). Results Thirteen items were retained from the expert panel evaluation. Items presented a high Content Validity Index (.94 out of 1) and high Item Acceptance Ratio (86.25 %). Both exploratory and confirmatory factorial analysis rendered one dimension scale with an excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = .9). The results of a Mann-Whitney test showed a higher MenoVWL score for post- as compared to pre-menopausal FPVUs (Z = - 2.818; P = .005). Conclusions MenoVWL is a comprehensive and validated scale with a known factor structure. It constitutes a health care and safety outcome self-perceived measure of value to the early detection of voice-related limitations to work in FPVUs during menopause.0612Filipa M.B., Lã, Ramírez, Ana M., Ardura, Diego, Fiuza, Mauro B. y Polo, Nuria . Within-subjects counterbalanced experiments were designed with male Wistar rats which underwent both behavioral procedures; half of them performed the ABA procedure frst and the other half the SIP procedure frst. In Experiment 1, the initial development of ABA facilitated the subsequent acquisition of SIP, whereas the frst acquisition of SIP retarded the subsequent development of ABA. Given that SIP exposure implied food restriction, it could be that adaptation to the food regime contributed to lowering ABA manifestation. Thus, Experiment 2 was carried out in exactly the same way as Experiment 1, with the exception that animals which frst went through SIP prior to undergoing the ABA procedure had no food restriction. In this case, both ABA and SIP as frst experiences facilitated the further development of SIP and ABA, respectively. This suggests that running in ABA may be functionally similar to drinking in SIP; therefore, both behaviors can be thought of as induced by the schedule/regime of intermittent food availability.0342Labajos, María José, Calcagni, Gianluca y Pellón Suárez de Puga, Ricardo . Despite cannabis currently being the most widely consumed illicit drug, with growing interest in its clinical applications, little is known about the effects of ∆-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) on SID. Objectives The effects of chronic and acute THC administration on SID acquisition, maintenance and extinction were studied, as were the effects of such administrations on the distinctive temporal distribution pattern of SID. Methods THC (5 mg/kg i.p.), or the corresponding vehicle, was administered to adult Wistar rats for 14 days in a row. Subsequently, THC effects on SID acquisition were tested during 21 sessions using a 1-h fixed-time 60-s food delivery schedule. Acute effects of THC were also evaluated after SID development. Finally, two extinction sessions were conducted to assess behavioural persistence. Results The results showed that previous chronic THC treatment delayed SID acquisition and altered the distinctive behavioural temporal distribution pattern during sessions. Moreover, acute THC administration after SID development decreased SID performance in animals chronically pre-treated with the drug. No great persistence effects were observed during extinction in animals pre-treated with THC. Conclusions These results suggest that chronic THC affects SID development, confirming that it can disrupt learning, possibly causing alterations in time estimation, and also leads to animals being sensitized when they are re-exposed to the drug after long periods without drug exposure.0442Fuentes-Verdugo, Esmeralda, López-Tolsa, Gabriela E., Pellón Suárez de Puga, Ricardo y Miguéns, Miguel . Among the many proposals, wireless indoor localization mechanisms based on the Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) are being widely explored. Most studies have focused on the evaluation of the capabilities of different mobile device brands and wireless network technologies. Furthermore, different parameters and algorithms have been proposed as a means of improving the accuracy of wireless-based localization mechanisms. In this paper, we focus on the tuning of the RSSI fingerprint to be used in the implementation of a Bluetooth Low Energy 4.0 (BLE4.0) Bluetooth localization mechanism. Following a holistic approach, we start by assessing the capabilities of two Bluetooth sensor/receiver devices. We then evaluate the relevance of the RSSI fingerprint reported by each BLE4.0 beacon operating at various transmission power levels using feature selection techniques. Based on our findings, we use two classification algorithms in order to improve the setting of the transmission power levels of each of the BLE4.0 beacons. Our main findings show that our proposal can greatly improve the localization accuracy by setting a custom transmission power level for each BLE4.0 beacon.0382Castillo Cara, Manuel, <a class="citation_author_name" title="Navegar por nombre de Autor de Lovón Melgarejo. However, it is also necessary to assure indoor air quality and thermal comfort. The Predicted Mean Vote (PMV), as presented in the International Standard ISO 7730, is the most widely used thermal comfort index for assessing indoor thermal environments. This index takes into account indoor environmental parameters, including air temperature, radiant heat, relative humidity, air velocity, and personal parameters such as metabolism rate as well as clothing. Despite its wide application, this index was developed for a particular group of people in a specific region, not taking into account personal preferences, and, for these reasons, the accuracy of this model has been questioned. A solution proposed to overcome this discrepancy consists in applying a regional factor that generalizes the PMV to a specific region. Consequently, several studies have been carried out to verify the deviations between the index prediction and the actual thermal comfort. ASHRAE took the initiative to create a database with several studies that included thermal comfort and predictive indices. Thus, the study aims to access the database and to find patterns between the Predicted Mean Vote and the Actual Mean Vote, evaluate the accuracy of the index for different regions, comparing countries with different climatic conditions and characteristics to check for inconsistencies. In this way, it is intended to map European Countries in clutches according to their climatic zone and evaluate the PMV differences. This approach allows performing a correlation for specific climatic zones and obtaining an adjustment factor to apply in future calculations of the PMV index. The results show that the accuracy of the thermal comfort models decreases for regions further from comfort, pointing the need for adjustment of the model.0ponencia congreso1812Figueira, Leonor, Teixeira, Inês, Rodrigues, Nelson, Ferreira, Ana, Rodrigues, Cristina y Teixeira, Senhorinha(2022) .Assessment of PMV accuracy for different geographic locations using the ASHRAE Thermal Comfort Database II. .En: Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. There is a lack of instruments that evaluate these behaviors and their influence in formal caregivers. The aim of this study is to develop and psychometrically test—the Revised Memory and Behavior Problems Checklist for Nursing Homes (RMBPC-NH). A cross-sectional study was carried out. The sample was made up of 312 formal caregivers working in nursing homes from different territories in Spain, 87.5% were women and 12.5% were men. The average age of participants was 39 years (SD = 12.2). The sample was recruited from January 2019 to March 2020. Participants completed a self-administered questionnaire, which included sociodemographic information, and assessed quality of technical equipment, level of training, experience of working with older people, job satisfaction, professional quality of life, burnout, and conception of negative stereotypes held towards aging. The four-factor structure of the RMBPC-NH showed a good fit, namely in relation to memory, functional, and emotional factors, and other problems. It has shown adequate psychometric properties, internal consistency, and validity (correlations with professional quality of life, job satisfaction, burnout, and negative stereotypes). The RMBPC-NH is a useful instrument to evaluate the frequency of older people’s memory and behavior problems and professional caregivers’ burden. The practical application in nursing homes is discussed.0362Velasco, Cristina, López, Javier, Pérez-Rojo, Gema, Noriega, Cristina y Martínez-Huertas, José Ángel . In Spanish literary studies, detailed case-studies of the phenomenon based on single authors exist. However, a larger-scale study spanning hundreds of major and minor authors, across several centuries, is not available so far. Towards that need, we have developed software based on Natural Language Processing (NLP), to automatically identify enjambment (and its type) in Spanish. To evaluate the system, we manually annotated two reference corpora (one diachronic, one from the 20th century). Results are satisfactory for the system's first version, with F1 varying depending on period and enjambment type. As a scholarly corpus to apply the tool, from public HTML sources we created a diachronic corpus covering four centuries of sonnets (3750 poems). We applied the tool to analyze the occurrence of enjambment across stanzaic boundaries in different periods.0ponencia congreso6162Ruiz Fabo, Pablo, Martínez Cantón, Clara Isabel y Poibeau, Thierry(2017) .Distant Rhythm: Automatic Enjambment Detection on Four Centuries of Spanish Sonnets. .En: Montreal (Canada). However, there are still challenges to overcome in terms of semantic representation, particularly in the lack of coherence and consistency in existing representation systems. This work introduces a framework defining the relationship between a probabilistic space, a set of meanings, and a vector space of static embedding representations; and establishes formal properties based on definitions that would be desirable for any distributional representation system to comply with in order to establish a common ground between distributional semantics and other approaches. This work also introduces an evaluation benchmark, defined on the basis of the formal properties introduced, which will allow to measure the quality of a representation system.0Doctoral Thesis1112Alonso Viñas, Carlos. However, the development of metrics capable of discerning whether images are synthetic or not runs behind the race of achieving the best generator, thus bringing potential threats. We propose a rotation invariant metric capable of distinguishing real and generated images and prove its performance and correlation with subjective evaluation on a brain MRI dataset to generate synthetic white matter lesion images. We name this metric CSD (Circular Spectrum Distance) due to its circular nature and its inherent relation to the Fourier Spectrum. We find that this metric, as opposed to Frechet Inception Distance or Inception Score, detects overfitting during training in terms of generator memorisation without making use of any pretrained network. The conclusions are generalized to CelebA-HQ as a benchmark dataset.0Doctoral Thesis2812Gamazo Tejero, Ángel Javier. It addresses the gap in current recommendation practices, which often overlook the rich semantic content of lyrics, despite their potential to significantly personalize music recommendations. Through theoretical insights into word embeddings and transfer learning, the development of the LyricSIM dataset for assessing lyric similarity, and empirical evaluations of models designed to distinguish between similar and non-similar song pairs, this research proposes a novel, lyrics-driven approach to music recommendation. Focused on the Spanish-speaking market, where Latin music is prevalent, this study contributes to the field by demonstrating how NLP technologies can refine music recommendations, addressing challenges like the cold start problem and enhancing the diversity of music recommendations, thereby offering a more personalized and engaging user experience in the streaming era.0Doctoral Thesis382Ghajari Espinosa, Adrián. While current outdoor localization mechanisms fulfill most application requirements, the design of accurate indoor localization mechanisms is still an open issue. Most research efforts are focusing on the design of mechanisms making use of the receiver signal strength indications generated by WLAN (wireless local area network) devices. However, the accuracy and robustness of such mechanisms can be severely compromised due to the random and unpredictable nature of radio channels. In this article, we develop a methodology incorporating various algorithms capable of coping with the unpredictable nature of radio channels. Following a holistic approach, we start by identifying the wireless equipment parameter setting, better meeting the implementation requirements of a robust indoor localization mechanism. We then make use of RANdom SAmple Consensus paradigm: a robust model-fitting mechanism capable of smoothing the data captured during the space survey. Using an experimental setup, we evaluate the benefits of integrating the floor plan and an ordinary Kriging interpolation algorithm in the estimation process. Our main findings show that our proposal can greatly improve the quality of the information to be used in the development of particle-filter-based indoor localization mechanisms.0322Martínez Gómez, Jesús, Martínez del Horno, Miguel, Castillo Cara, Manuel, Brea Luján, Victor Manuel, Orozco Barbosa, Luis y García Varea, Ismael . Therefore, to improve their visual skills, people affected by low vision usually follow a visual training program planned and supervised by an expert in this eld. Visual training is especially suitable for children because of their plasticity for learning. However, due to a lack of specialists, training sessions are usually less frequent than optimal. Thus, home-based visual training has emerged as a solution to this problem because it can be undertaken by experts and families together. We implemented the Visual Stimulation on the Internet (EVIN) application, which provides comprehensive visual training tasks through games. It also provides reports on children's performance in these visual training tasks. Although EVIN has shown its usefulness in previous works, two main solutions are needed: (i) a support setup to help experts and families work together to address, among other things, the large variety of exercises and different congurations that can be prescribed and (ii) a rigorous experimental design to compare children trained with EVIN and those trained with traditional materials. To face these challenges, we present an adaptive version of EVIN that provides a new design tool that allows experts to plan visual training tasks through templates in advance. In addition, we developed new metrics and reports to achieve a more accurate assessment of a child's improvement. Among other results, it allowed us to develop an reliable experiment to evaluate signicant improvements in children trained with EVIN.0322Matas, Yolanda, Hernández-Del-Olmo, Félix, Gaudioso, Elena y Santos, Carlos . However, the main bottleneck to benchmark and work with these algorithms is that they used Microsoft Satori 1 or Freebase 2 (now Google Knowledge Graph 3) as their KG. As Satori and Google Knowledge Graph are commercial KGs and not open source, it's not possible to replicate the results found in the papers on new data, or use these solutions in real applications without paying for access. This limitation is critical in the development of this area of RS. There are researchers working on algorithms and applications, whose results cannot be replicated openly by the science community, hence, going against the scientic method. As researchers, one of our main goals is to make science accessible and replicable for all the scientic community, empowering the development of new knowledge areas. To ll this gap, this Thesis presents a system to generate domain adapted Knowledge Graphs using open source information from Wikidata. These Knowledge Graphs can be used in hybrid Recommendation Systems, that use linked knowledge on the items as side information, combining both Collaborative Filtering and Content Base Filtering strategies. The results show that the proposed system is able to create domain adapted Knowledge Graphs from open source information for recommendation datasets, and that the KGs generated are able to compete with their commercial versions. We have shown that our proposed system creates smaller KGs that are more domain adapted, that have a similar eciency in downstream tasks of Recommendation Systems than commercial KGs. This could be specially relevant in systems that require faster computational times that can be achieved with smaller KGs, as real-time systems, or to save computational cost in high-scale systems. The system ca be used as a reference to evaluate the state-of-the-art algorithms in future works in the area.0Doctoral Thesis1682Sanz Olive, Almudena. Martial arts are an interesting domain for this because it encompasses most of the characteristics that can be found in other psychomotor activities. Different methods for capturing, modelling and analyzing human motion, as well as providing feedback to the user have been reviewed. In addition, another bibliographical review of 27 publications has been carried out to evaluate till what extend these methods have been already applied to martial arts. For this research work, inertial methods have been selected for capturing motion. In particular, the inertial sensors of an Android device have been used for capturing the execution of a set of movements of American Kenpo Karate from 20 volunteers. The captured data was then modeled, by segmenting and labelling the movements, and smoothing the time series using Exponentially Weighted Moving Averages. The resulting dataset, formed by 240 movements, was then used for training and comparing three neural network-based classifiers: FC-ANN, 1D-CNN and LSTM. Neural networks were selected because of their ability of learn complex functions and the fact that some neural network architectures have been created specifically for analyze time series. Further, the weights learned by a neural network can be transferred to other domains through the technique known as transfer learning. Obtained results suggest that LSTM is the type of neural network that can better classify the movements studied, obtaining an accuracy of 1.0 in the training set, and an accuracy of 0.94 in the testing set. For demonstrating that those methods can be applied, an AI-based real-time Android application has been developed. This application employs the studied methods, as well as a feedback strategy created using the results of a questionnaire carried out with the purpose of identifying the issues that online learning of a psychomotor activity can entails. The application has then been tested, generating a good impression in the users. Following the open science philosophy, all contributions are shared in the GitHub repository.0Doctoral Thesis5242Casas Ortiz, Alberto.
