The two main types of floor field are the static, which represents the shortest path from each cell to an exit (and is usually combined with dynamic measures such as the density or distribution of pedestrians), and the dynamic, which represents the quickest path from each cell to an exit. The second type has been widely used recently, since it gives rise to more efficient and realistic simulations of pedestrian dynamics. The goal of these two types of floor field is to minimize the travel time for each pedestrian; however, this paper tackles the evacuation problem from a different perspective: The time taken by the whole evacuation process is optimized. For that purpose, a floor field is constructed by assigning pedestrians to exits such that the estimated time for complete evacuation is minimized. An experimental evaluation is conducted to compare the new fast evacuation method with competitive methods using floor fields based on quickest paths: Flood Fill and the Fast Marching Method. The results show that the new method is effective in terms of the number of time steps for complete evacuation and efficient regarding the total simulation runtime.0392Fernández Galán, Severino . However, the most commonly used estimation method for CDMs, marginal maximum likelihood estimation with Expectation–Maximization (MMLE-EM), can present difficulties when sample sizes are small. This study compares the results of different estimation methods for CDMs under varying sample sizes using simulated and empirical data. The methods compared include MMLE-EM, Bayes modal, Markov chain Monte Carlo, a non-parametric method, and a parsimonious parametric model such as Restricted DINA. We varied the sample size, and assessed the bias in the estimation of item parameters, the precision in attribute classification, the bias in the reliability estimate, and computational cost. The findings suggest that alternative estimation methods are preferred over MMLE-EM under low sample-size conditions, whereas comparable results are obtained under large sample-size conditions. Practitioners should consider using alternative estimation methods when working with small samples to obtain more accurate estimates of CDM parameters. This study aims to maximize the potential of CDMs by providing guidance on the estimation of the parameters.0242Sorrel, Miguel A., Escudero, Scarlett, Nájera, Pablo, Schames Kreitchmann, Rodrigo y Vázquez-Lira, Ramsés . We extract information from the anchor text, the content of the page containing the link, and the cache page in some digital library. The selected information is processed and submitted to a search engine. We have compared different information retrievalmethods for both, the selection of terms used to construct the queries submitted to the search engine, and the ranking of the candidate pages that it provides, in order to help the user to find the best replacement. In particular, we have used term frequencies, and a language model approach for the selection of terms; and cooccurrence measures and a language model approach for ranking the final results. To test the different methods, we have also defined a methodology which does not require the user judgments, what increases the objectivity of the results.06072Martínez-Romo, Juan and Araujo, Lourdes(2011) .Analyzing information retrieval methods to recover broken web links. .En: . Here, we compared the convergent and discriminant validity of two computerized assessment methods designed to detect semantic topics in constructed responses: Inbuilt Rubric (IR) and Partial Contents Similarity (PCS). While both methods are distributional models of language and use the same Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) prior knowledge, they produce different semantic representations. PCS evaluates constructed responses using non-meaningful semantic dimensions (this method is the standard LSA assessment of constructed responses), but IR endows original LSA semantic space coordinates with meaning. In the present study, 255 undergraduate and high school students were allocated one of three texts and were tasked to make a summary. A topic- detection task was conducted comparing IR and PCS methods. Evidence from convergent and discriminant validity was found in favor of the IR method for topic-detection in computerized constructed response assessments. In this line, the multicollinearity of PCS method was larger than the one of IR method, which means that the former is less capable of discriminating between related concepts or meanings. Moreover, the semantic representations of both methods were qualitatively different, that is, they evaluated different concepts or meanings. The implications of these automated assessment methods are also discussed. First, the meaningful coordinates of the Inbuilt Rubric method can accommodate expert rubrics for computerized assessments of constructed responses improving computer-assisted language learning. Second, they can provide high-quality computerized feedback accurately detecting topics in other educational constructed response assessments. Thus, it is concluded that: (1) IR method can represent different concepts and contents of a text, simultaneously mapping a considerable variability of contents in constructed responses; (2) IR method semantic representations have a qualitatively different meaning than the LSA ones and present a desirable multicollinearity that promotes the discriminant validity of the scores of distributional models of language; and (3) IR method can extend the performance and the applications of current LSA semantic representations by endowing the dimensions of the semantic space with semantic meanings.0362Martínez-Huertas, José Ángel, Olmos, Ricardo y León, José A. . Both of them resolve the identification subject as an optimization problem to fit the best model. The first approach uses genetic algorithms and nonlinear least squares with constraints methods applied in the frequency domain. The second one suggests a new parameterization which facilitates obtaining high quality starting values and avoids non-quadratic functions in the cost function. At last it is shown an example in which the two approximations are applied and compared.06982Aranda Almansa, Joaquín, Muñoz Mansilla, Rocío, Dormido Canto, Sebastián, Díaz Martínez, José Manuel y Dormido Bencomo, Sebastián . The Response Factors (RF) method sets the base for related dynamic calculations implemented by most well-known Building Energy Simulation (BES) software, and it represents a research topic of present interest. In this regard, this work introduces a new method for calculating conduction Response Factors in building multilayer constructions, based on the definition of an approximated wall model through Frequency–Domain Spline Interpolation (FDSI) and asymptotic analysis. Its conceptual development as well as first validations comparing with existing methods from previous literature are presented. Finally, as a result of applying a table-lookup approach and the possibility of pre-calculating most of the involved operations, an accurate, fast and easy-to-code algorithm is obtained, which constitutes a promising alternative to improve the current state-of-art calculation procedures.0362Sanza Pérez, Javier, Chicote, Manuel Andrés, Varela, Fernando y Velasco Gómez, Eloy . Inbuilt rubric is a recent Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) method that implements rubrics in an artificially-generated semantic space. It was compared with classical LSA’s cosine-based methods assessing knowledge in a within-subjects design regarding two validation sources: a comparison with the results of rubric scores and multiple-choice tests, and the sensitivity of predicting the academic level of the test-taker. Results showed a higher reliability for inbuilt rubric (from Pearson correlation coefficient .81 to .49) over the classical LSA method (from .61 to .34) and a higher sensitivity using binary logistic regressions and effect sizes to predict academic level. It is concluded that inbuilt rubric has a qualitatively higher reliability and validity than classical LSA methods in a way that is complementary to models based on semantic networks. Thus, it is concluded that new Automated Summary Evaluation approaches such as the inbuilt rubric method can be practical in terms of reliability and efficiency, and, thus, they can offer an affordable and valuable form of knowledge assessment in different educational levels.0322Martínez-Huertas, José Ángel, Jastrzebska, Olga, Olmos, Ricardo y León, Jose A. . Several methods, such as the half-cycle correction and the life-table method, were developed to attenuate the error introduced in Markov models by the discretization of time. Elbasha and Chhatwal have proposed alternative “corrections” based on numerical integration techniques. They present an example whose results suggest that the trapezoidal rule, which is equivalent to the half-cycle correction, is not as accurate as Simpson’s 1/3 and 3/8 rules. However, they did not take into consideration the impact of discontinuities. Objective. To propose a method for evaluating Markov models with discontinuities. Design. Applying the trapezoidal rule, we derive a method that consists of adjusting the model by setting the cost at each point of discontinuity to the mean of the left and right limits of the cost function. We then take from the literature a model with a cycle length of 1 year and a discontinuity on the cost function and compare our method with other “corrections” using as the gold standard an equivalent model with a cycle length of 1 day. Results. As expected, for this model, the life-table method is more accurate than assuming that transitions occur at the beginning or the end of cycles. The application of numerical integration techniques without taking into account the discontinuity causes large errors. The model with averaged cost values yields very small errors, especially for the trapezoidal and the 1/3 Simpson rules. Conclusion. In the case of discontinuities, we recommend applying the trapezoidal rule on an averaged model because this method has a mathematical justification, and in our empirical evaluation, it was more accurate than the sophisticated 3/8 Simpson rule.08272Pérez-Martín, Jorge, Bermejo, Iñigo y Díez, Francisco J. . In the former case it is defined as the ratio between the closed phase and the period, as measured in flow glottograms (FLOGG), while in the latter case it is defined as the time interval between the falling and rising parts of the electroglottogram (EGG), measured at some percentage of the peak-to-peak amplitude. The study aims at analyzing differences between EGG and FLOGG based closed quotients and their relationships with voice source parameters. Study Design: Comparative study Methods: FLOGG based and EGG based measures collected from five professional male singers were compared, under different pitch and loudness conditions. Results: As compared with the FLOGG based quotient, the EGG based quotient (i) varied more between subjects, (ii) presented greater values, (iii) varied less with subglottal pressure, (iv) varied less with the normalized amplitude quotient (i.e. the ratio between the flow pulse amplitude and the product of period and maximum flow declination rate), and (v) varied less with the relative amplitude of the voice source fundamental. Conclusions: Although positively related, FLOGG based and EGG based closed quotients differ and must not be confused.0392Filipa M.B., Lã y Sundberg, Johan . This is a problem, especially in cases where the words used in the queries are not contained in the documents. Therefore more research needs to be done to investigate how text semantics can be applied to information retrieval, especially in cases where the corpus of documents is big and the queries and documents representations need to be compared fast and without the need of re-indexing. In this work, we conduct an exploratory study to investigate different embeddings and deep learning techniques and how this can be applied to the information retrieval task. We show that although existing methods based on word overlapping perform better in general, in particular cases where the word overlap between queries and documents is low, the use of semantic embedding outperforms other methods based on bag of words.0Doctoral Thesis2832Sagrado Sala, Ana. Martial arts are an interesting domain for this because it encompasses most of the characteristics that can be found in other psychomotor activities. Different methods for capturing, modelling and analyzing human motion, as well as providing feedback to the user have been reviewed. In addition, another bibliographical review of 27 publications has been carried out to evaluate till what extend these methods have been already applied to martial arts. For this research work, inertial methods have been selected for capturing motion. In particular, the inertial sensors of an Android device have been used for capturing the execution of a set of movements of American Kenpo Karate from 20 volunteers. The captured data was then modeled, by segmenting and labelling the movements, and smoothing the time series using Exponentially Weighted Moving Averages. The resulting dataset, formed by 240 movements, was then used for training and comparing three neural network-based classifiers: FC-ANN, 1D-CNN and LSTM. Neural networks were selected because of their ability of learn complex functions and the fact that some neural network architectures have been created specifically for analyze time series. Further, the weights learned by a neural network can be transferred to other domains through the technique known as transfer learning. Obtained results suggest that LSTM is the type of neural network that can better classify the movements studied, obtaining an accuracy of 1.0 in the training set, and an accuracy of 0.94 in the testing set. For demonstrating that those methods can be applied, an AI-based real-time Android application has been developed. This application employs the studied methods, as well as a feedback strategy created using the results of a questionnaire carried out with the purpose of identifying the issues that online learning of a psychomotor activity can entails. The application has then been tested, generating a good impression in the users. Following the open science philosophy, all contributions are shared in the GitHub repository.0Doctoral Thesis5232Casas Ortiz, Alberto. In the financial literature, there are many papers dedicated to compare VaR approaches but there are few studies focusing in comparing ES approaches. To cover this gap, we have carried out a comprenhensive comparative of VaR and ES models applied to IBEX-35 stock index. The comparison has been carried out from a twofold perspective: accurate risk measure and loss functions. The results indicate that the method based on the conditional Extreme Value Theory (EVT) is the best in estimating market risk, outperforming Parametric method and Filter Historical Simulation.0762Benito Muela, Sonia, López Martin, Carmen y Arguedas-Sanz, Raquel . European Union has established thresholds for certain gases, such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2). If these thresholds are exceeded, institutions of each city belonging to the EU, must activate measures previously defined, to go down NO2 concentrations. Meteorological parameters are related to episodes of high/low NO2 concentrations. In this paper, pollution time series and meteorological features measured in the Madrid region were used to predict NO2 concentrations. Detailed relationships between NO2 concentrations and meteorological data were established through computational intelligence models. Therefore, these data were used to develop a predictive model. The proposal shows good precision in the prediction, proving computational intelligence has great potential in the pollution time series forecasting. When constructing a prediction model, in addition obtaining good accuracy, it is important to know why that prediction is made. Interpreting the output of the computational intelligence model is difficult due to the architecture of the model itself. A SHAP (SHapley Additive Explanations) approach is applied to interpret the complex model outputs. This method assigns each feature a value of importance for a particular prediction. Three SHAP-based explanation methods are compared to determine which method is more suitable for the pollution time series data and for the computational intelligence model chosen. In this research therefore, a model based on computational intelligence is developed to predict the levels of NO2 concentrations. Through methods based on explanations we will obtain a deeper vision of how the computational intelligence model behaves on the pollution time series, allowing an increase in the confidence of the users on the results obtained from the prediction model. As a product of this study, a short version of this document has been sent for consideration in the Ecological Informatics1 international journal on computational ecology and ecological data science.0Doctoral Thesis5312Vega García, María. Methods: Pain and posture (forward head posture, scapular posture and lumbar lordosis) were compared between two groups of preparatory and secondary school students, matched for age and sex: those who have accordion lessons, hence accordionists (n=16) and those who never have studied a musical instrument, hence non-instrumentalists (n=16). Results: Students having accordion lessons reported significantly more pain in the shoulder, wrist/hand and thoracic regions (p<0.05), showed a significantly more forward head posture (accordionists (median±IQ distance) = 35.6º ± 7.8º, non-instrumentalists (median±IQ distance) = 45.3º±10.8º; p <0.05), and a significantly increased lumbar lordosis (accordionists (median±IQ 14 distance) = 55.5º ± 30.6º, non-musicians (median±IQ distance)= 39.0º ± 3.9º, p <0.05). No significant differences were found for scapular posture between groups. Conclusions: This study suggests that children and adolescents who play the accordion have an increased forward head posture and lumbar lordosis and a tendency to report more pain than children and adolescents who do no play any musical instrument0772Liliana, Aparicio, Filipa M.B., Lã y Silva, Anabela G. . The purpose of this challenge is to compare methods for the semantic segmentation of white matter hyperintensities (WMH), which are brain white matter lesions, of presumably vascular origin in brain imaging obtained with magnetic resonance. White matter hyperintensities are found in patients with brain diseases like Parkinson, Alzheimer or stroke. Semantic segmentation refers to the process of linking each pixel in an image to a class label. The semantic segmentation of images has had a great advance with convolution neural networks, but they require a large number of images to be able to obtain good results. Convolutional neural networks are a type of neural networks specialized on images which architecture is similar to neurons’ pattern in human brain and they were inspired by the organization of the visual cortex. With the aim to reduce the number of images required in training, in this work, we propose the use of meta-learning algorithms, in particular prototype learning, to do this semantic segmentation. In addition, this approach also allows the network to be used in a different task for which it was not trained, which can improve its potential use. Results obtained suggest that it could be possible to use the network trained to a specific task (i.e., detect WMH in the brain), to another task (i.e. detect any kind of tumors in the brain).0Doctoral Thesis3642Alarcón Palomar, Óscar. We propose an algorithm that calculates the number of clusters and establishes the groups of web pages according to the different individuals without the need to any training data or predefined thresholds, as the successful state of the art systems do. In addition, most of those systems do not deal with social media web pages and their performance could fail in a real scenario. In this paper we also propose a heuristic method for the treatment of social networking profiles. Our approach is compared with four gold standard collections for this task obtaining really competitive results, comparable to those obtained by some approaches with supervision.06082Delgado, Agustín D., Martínez, Raquel, Víctor Fresno, Víctor and Montalvo, Soto(2014) .A data driven approach for person name disambiguation in web search results. .En: . Method: Measurements of head and scapular posture and muscle strength were compared between flutists with 10 or less years of practice (developing flutists; n=9), flutists with more than 10 years of practice (professional flutists; n=9) and singers (n=9). Posture was measured using a goniometer and a tape measure; strength was assessed using an isokinetic dynamometer. Results: Significant differences were found between groups concerning forward head posture only; developing flutists showed a higher forward head posture compared to the other two groups (p <0.05). No significant differences were found for scapular posture neither for muscle strength. Conclusions: Developing flutists showed significantly more forward head posture. This supports the need to revise existing music curricula targeting the inclusion of compulsory disciplines on music medicine.0352Teixeira, Ziliane Lima de Oliveira, Filipa M.B., Lã y Gonçalves da Silva, Anabela . This paper identifies the main determinants that aect GHG emissions growth and assesses their impact and dierences among countries in Europe. Previous studies have produced inconclusive results and presented several limitations, such as the lack of quality of the data used, the reduced identification of determinants and the use of methods that did not enable hypothesis testing. Conversely, this research identifies an extended list of determinants of GHG emissions, performs an in-depth statistical analysis and contrasts the significance of determinants using panel data and multiple linear regression models for the period 1990–2017 for the main Eurozone countries. The study found that GDP and final energy intensity are the main drivers for the reduction of GHG emissions in Europe. Furthermore, energy prices are not significant and heterogeneous results are found for the renewable energy, fuel mix and carbon intensity determinants, pointing to a dierent behavior at the country level. The uneven impact of the main determinants of GHG emission growth suggest that a dierentiated application of European policies at country level will enhance the eciency of mitigation eorts in Europe.0272González-Sánchez, Mariano y Martín-Ortega, Juan Luis . All of them show high sensitivity to radiation regardless of whether it is ionizing or partially ionizing radiation based on their luminescence properties (cathodoluminescence -CL- or thermoluminescence -TL-). CL emission differs significantly among them in shape and intensity due to their chemical compositions. LiF samples display three maxima at: (i) 300-450 nm linked to intrinsic and structural defects, (ii) a green waveband probably due to F3+ centres or the presence of hydroxyl groups and (iii) the red-infrared emission band associated with F2 centres. However, CL spectra from the CaF2 dosimeters display meaningful differences due to the dopant. TLD-200 is characterized by an emission with four sharp individual peaks in the green-IR spectral region (due to the Dy3+), whilst TLD-400 exhibits a broad maximum peaked at ̴ 500 nm (linked to the Mn2+). On the other hand, the variation in the TL glow curves allows to discriminate the TLDs exposed to beta and UVC radiation since they give rise to different chemicalphysical processes and that have been studied from the estimation of the kinetic parameters by means of the Computerised Glow Curve Deconvolution (CGCD) method.0692Boronat, Cecilia, Correcher, Virgilio, Bravo Yagüe, Juan Carlos, Sarasola Martín, Iciar, García Guinea, Javier y Benavente Cuevas, José Francisco . Two clinical applications are studied: the prediction of induction of labor (IOL) failure based on clinical data and US images obtained prior to IOL, and the estimation of risk of preterm birth based on routinely US images acquired in the 20th week of pregnancy. Several machine learning classifiers and feature selection techniques are tested and the results are compared. The best model for the prediction of IOL failure was a random forest that model obtained an AUC of 0.75, with 69% sensitivity and 71% specificity. The best model for the prediction of preterm birth was a random forest that obtained an AUC of 0.77 AUC, with 71% sensitivity and 69% specificity . These preliminary results suggest that features obtained from US images can be used to estimate risks in these two obstetric problems. Transvaginal US is cheap, widely available at hospitals, and performed routinely. Therefore these method can be easily implemented in clinical practice and help practitioners choose a most personalized treatment for each patient, improving the outcomes. Further validation with a largest and more diverse dataset is needed, especially to assess how the image analysis methods work with images from different US vendors.0Doctoral Thesis3942García Ocaña, María Inmaculada. Among some of these problems we find the issue of ranking the multiple answers posted in reply to each question by how informative they are in the attempt to solve the original question. This work tries to advance the state of the art on answer ranking for community Question Answering by proceeding with a deep learning approach. We started off by creating a large data set of questions and answers posted to the Stack Overflow website. We then leveraged the natural language processing capabilities of dense embeddings and LSTM networks to produce a prediction for the accepted answer attribute, and present the answers in a ranked form ordered by how likely they are to be marked as accepted by the question asker. We also produced a set of numerical features to assist with the answer ranking task. These numerical features were either extracted from metadata found in the Stack Overflow posts or derived from the questions and answers texts. We compared the performance of our deep learning models against a set of forest and boosted trees ensemble methods and found that our models could not improve the best baseline results. We speculate that this lack of performance improvement versus the baseline models may be caused by the large number of out of vocabulary words present in the programming code snippets found in the questions and answers text. We conclude that while a deep learning approach may be helpful in answer ranking problems new methods should be developed to assist with the large number of out of vocabulary words present in the programming code snippets.0Doctoral Thesis1872Valentin Garcia, Lucas. This project focusses on the problem of hand pose estimation using convolutional neural networks (CNN) from depth data. Recently, dierent CNN architectures have been proposed in order to nd an ecent and reliable methodolgy to resolve the complexity that involves the variablity in apperance of a hand, with its gestures, changes of orientation, occlusions and so. The use of CNN opens new opportunities for improvements in this research by providing the capability of learning from many samples. This work pretends to advance a step further on the hand pose estimation problem. With this aim, the hand pose estimation using CNN by modifying the output data with a new representation of the hand pose is proposed. An Euclidean Matrix Distance (EDM) is proposed as a hand pose representation. This representation encodes structural information of the hand pose and captures local correlations and dependecies between some hand keypoints. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, dierent CNN architectures using EDM representation are explored and compared with the hand pose representation dened by the position of hand keypoints in the 3D Cartesian coordinate system. Experimental results show that using EDM representation as target layer in the convolutional network increases the performance of all the proposed architectures in terms of mean square error, both in training and testing sets. As a conclusion, this work shows that EDM representations help to reduce some ambiguities of current hand pose estimation methods using a CNN, by incorporating structural information of the hand and capturing keypoint/joint correlations. This research also gives some insights to investigate in future advances in hand pose estimation using CNN models and will help to explore new strategies for this problem.0Doctoral Thesis4762Vinagre Ruiz, Manuel. As in any assessment, an accurate reliability estimation is crucial for valid score interpretations. In this sense, most CDM reliability indices are based on the posterior probabilities of the estimated attribute profiles. These posteriors are traditionally computed using point estimates for the model parameters as approximations to their populational values. If the uncertainty around these parameters is unaccounted for, the posteriors may be overly peaked, deriving into overestimated reliabilities. This article presents a multiple imputation (MI) procedure to integrate out the model parameters in the estimation of the posterior distributions, thus correcting the reliability estimation. A simulation study was conducted to compare the MI procedure with the traditional reliability estimation. Five factors were manipulated: the attribute structure, the CDM model (DINA and G-DINA), test length, sample size, and item quality. Additionally, an illustration using the Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English data was analyzed. The effect of sample size was studied by sampling subsets of subjects from the complete data. In both studies, the traditional reliability estimation systematically provided overestimated reliabilities, whereas the MI procedure offered more accurate results. Accordingly, practitioners in small educational or clinical settings should be aware that the reliability estimation using model parameter point estimates may be positively biased. R codes for the MI procedure are made available0252Schames Kreitchmann, Rodrigo, Torre, Jimmy de la, Sorrel, Miguel A., Nájera, pablo y Abad, Francisco J. . Flow ball devices have been used as teaching tools to provide visual real-time feedback of airflow during singing. This study aims at exploring static back pressure and ball height as function of flow for two devices, marketed as flow ball and floating ball game. Study Design. This is a comparative descriptive study. Methods. A flow-driven vocal tract simulator was used to investigate the aerodynamic properties of these two devices, testing them for four different ball sizes. The flow range investigated was between 0 and 0.5 L/s. Audio, flow, pressure, and ball height were recorded. Results. The flow pressure profiles for both tested devices were similar to those observed in previous studies on narrow tubes. For lifting the ball, both devices had a flow and a pressure threshold. The tested floating ball game required considerably higher back pressure for a given flow as compared with the flow ball. Conclusions. Both tested devices have similar effects on back pressure as straws of 3.7 and 3.0 mm in diameter for the flow ball and the floating ball game, respectively. One might argue that both devices could be used as tools for practicing semi-occluded vocal tract exercises, with the additional benefit of providing real-time visual feedback of airflow during phonation. The flow threshold, combined with the flow feedback, would increase awareness of flow, rather than of pressure, during exercises using a flow ball device.0362Filipa M.B., Lã, Wistbacka, Greta, Amarante Andrade, Pedro y Granqvist, Svante . The second dimension values the attitudes of teachers, students and parents regarding the implementation of video games in formal education using descriptive analysis and nonparametric statistical inference through the Jonckheere-Terpstra test and the Kruskal-Wallis test, which allows each group ranks to be compared. The third dimension analyzes interactions in a virtual learning environment related to the implementation of MinecraftEdu. Although there are no significant improvements regarding academic outcomes and some parents hold negative attitudes, it is noteworthy that the majority of the sample considered that MinecraftEdu is fun, enhances creativity, develops discovery and is a good application for creating and exploring immersive historical environments.07792Sáez López, José Manuel, Miller, John, Vázquez Cano, Esteban and Domínguez Garrido, María Concepción . The methodology is used to select, among many others, the optimal composite material whose properties are used afterwards to simulate several pipe sections by finite element analysis, comparing the results with a well-known nuclear-grade steel, WWER 15Kh2MFAA. The most suitable composite material according to the defined criteria is composed of a phenolic resin matrix reinforced with long boron fibres and exhibit great properties to be used in a nuclear reactor environment: good radiation resistance and mechanical properties with a very low density at low cost. It can be concluded that, in some cases, composite material pipes can be a better option than steel ones. Extending the method to be employed in other industries or with other components could be seen as future works.0322Merayo, David, Rodríguez Prieto, Álvaro y Camacho, Ana María . The European Union (EU), compared to China and the United States, is losing its capacity for innovation and control over data and fundamental raw materials and could even lose ground in the regulatory power it has in the digital realm. This paper pays special attention to the situation and progress toward a new European policy to achieve digital strategic autonomy. It also briefly outlines the Recovery Plan for Europe as a possible incentive for its promotion. Both descriptive and analytical methods were employed to gather the data from secondary sources and provide reliable research results. The major findings of this article are that strategic autonomy is an imperative requirement for sustaining and encouraging European integration, forcing the EU to advance faster toward developing critical digital technologies. There is also an urgent need to secure critical parts of supply chains and data protection, intellectual property, and defense against disinformation. Finally, the European Union must improve its resilience to face new crises and lead the digitalization of its economy.0622Benedicto Solsona, Miguel Ángel y Czubala Ostapiuk, Marcin Roman . This project aims to provide means to solve the interoperability issues that exist among the digital poetry repertoires. These repertoires hold data of poetry metrics that is locked in their own databases and it is not freely available to be compared and to be used by intelligent machines that could infer over the data. The POSTDATA project will use Linked Open Data (LOD) technologies to overcome the interoperability problems. POSTDATA is developing a metadata application prole (MAP) for the digital poetry repertoires, a construct that enhances interoperability. This development follows the method for the development of MAP (Me4MAP). A MAP for the digital poetry repertoires will open doors for these repertoires to be able to structure the data with a common model in order to publish it as Linked Open Data. This paper presents how this MAP is being developed so far.0ponencia congreso11062Curado Malta, Mariana, González-Blanco García, Elena, Martínez Cantón, Clara Isabel y Rio Riande, Gimena del(2016) .Digital repertoires of poetry metrics: towards a Linked Open Data ecosystem. .En: Göttingen (Germany). It compares quantitatively and qualitatively the electoral manifestos of four radical right parties —Vox, RN, UKIP, and Brexit Party—, and shows that borders are basic factors in the process of decontestation of “the people” and construction of exclusion-inclusion narratives. Likewise, this analysis exemplifies how (re)bordering claims are usually justified and articulated via populist discursive elements such as antagonism, morality, idealization of society, popular sovereignty and personalistic leadership. This article demonstrates that the border can become a method to study populism and vice versa and that crossfertilization between the borders and populism literatures is desirable. Further research is needed to understand whether populists’ selective instrumentalization of borders and equivalential logic leads to a non-binary hierarchical “othering” and the emergence of a populist “meta-us”.02082Olivas Osuna, José Javier . Preliminary tests vs. data for mobility-selected submicron particlesbibliuned:DptoFMyF-FCIE-Articulos-Marias-0001In Paper I (Sep. Purif. Technol. 257 (2021) 117676) we showed that a semi-analytic, multi-mechanism expression for the single-fiber capture fraction, cap,SF, (derived using asymptotically valid approximations: Ref < 0.4, Pef 1, R 1, R·Pe1/3 f arbitrary and Stkp Stkpcrit), facilitates a deterministic-, pseudo-continuum aerosol population-balance (PB-) approach to predicting fibrous filter performance. There we explicitly considered “deep” (Lf/df,g 1), low solidity idealized fibrous filters (FFs) challenged by polydispersed aerosols—especially single-mode log-normal (LN) ASDs of modest spread captured by a spatially uniform array of fibers of a single diameter in crossflow. However, realistic fibrous filter media often possess a LN distribution of fiber diameters, as well as a near-Gaussian orientation distribution narrowly spread about normal incidence ( = /2). Moreover, even if this were not so, there would be meso-scale departures from a uniform average fiber solid fraction. We show here that our tractable aerosol PBE-approach to idealized FF performance (Paper I) can be generalized to incorporate these particular structural features of commercially available fibrous filter media. But, to clarify whether these generalizations are likely to be useful, if not fully sufficient, for practical circumstances, it is also necessary to compare such methods/predictions against selected sets of well-defined experimental results. We initiate this program here, having chosen the recent experiments of Kang et al. (Sep. Purif. Technol. 209 (2019) 461–469) carried out using a commercially available fiberglass filter with Lf/df,g ' 300, mean solid fraction of 0.039, and df,g = 2.5 μm, successively challenged by mobility-selected KCl(s) particles (with diameters between ca. 20 and 600 nm) at the carrier gas velocities of 15 and 10 cm/s—capture conditions dominated by the transport mechanism of Brownian diffusion and convection, with “interception” (associated with non-negligible dp/df ) becoming important above ca. dp = 100 nm. We conclude from these data that the effective interception diameter, dp,icpt, eff, of the particles studied is systematically larger than their stated mobility diameters—a situation which will deserve further attention in future studies. Encouraged by these preliminary but instructive comparisons, we expect that, for many current and future design purposes, our present class of semi-analytic/non-stochastic/multi-mechanism methods will provide a welcome complement, if not alternative, to much more computationally-intensive simulation methods for realistic fibrous media that have been described and implemented in the recent aerosol filtration literature. The consequences of including these structural features of fibrous filters in the presence of aerosol size- and shape polydispersity will be the subject of future studies, based on the generalized Population Balance Equation developed/proposed in Section 3.3.01992Rosner, Daniel E. y Arias-Zugasti, Manuel . The present study aims at describing long-term average spectrum (LTAS) parameters of 16 professional singers while singing and reading the lyrics of a typical Fado-Can¸c~ao. LTAS parameters were investigated in terms of: (1) equivalent sound level (Leq); (2) spectral differences between 3 frequency bands 0−2, 2−5, and 5−8 kHz; and (3) quantification of spectral prominence between 2 and 4 kHz, calculated as the level difference between the peak in this frequency region and a reference trendline between 1 and 5 kHz, henceforth Formant Cluster Prominence (FCP). Given that Fado-Can¸c~ao, besides Fado and traditional styles, originated also from classical singing, and that previous studies on Fado suggest the absence of a singer’s formant cluster, the averaged LTAS for all Fado-Can¸c~ao singers was further compared to the LTAS of two world-touring opera baritones singing an operatic aria and a lied. Results show that Fado-Can¸c~ao is commonly sung with a Leq of 86.4 dB and a FCP of about 10 dB, values significantly higher when compared to reading. The FCP in Fado-Can¸c~ao, although smaller than for the two classical opera singers’ examples (14.8 and 20 dB, respectively), suggests that the style preserved some of its original lyrical influence. However, because younger singers present higher energy in the 5−8 kHz region relative to the remaining frequency bands as compared to older singers, it seems that Fado-Can¸c~ao may be drifting towards non-classical vocal practices. FCP seems to be a promising straightforward method to quantify the degree of formant clustering around the region of the singer’s formant in LTAS, allowing comparisons between different singers and singing styles.0392Filipa M.B., Lã, Silva, Luciano S. y Granqvist, Svante . Biogas has emerged to avoid the intensification of global warming and promote waste valorization. However, undesirable chemicals must be removed prior to its utilization. Siloxanes stand out as biogas contaminants since they can damage process equipment’s. Therefore, in this work, COSMO-based/Aspen Plus computational methodology was applied to evaluate, as first-time, ionic liquids (ILs) as siloxanes absorbents on biogas upgrading context. Thus, molecular simulation using COSMO-RS method was used to analyze the interactions between siloxanes/ILs based on excess properties. Moreover, it was used to select the most promising ILs among a wide sample (9 0 0) of solvents for latter process simulation stage based on thermodynamics (Henry’s law constants) and kinetics (low viscosity). The results revealed that ILs with fluorinated anions are the best for the task. Then, the performance of selected ILs on siloxane capture at industrial scale was evaluated by means of Aspen Plus process simulations. Thus, the absorption efficiency in a packed column was analyzed by comparing the silicon concentration in outlet gas stream for each IL, using a rigorous RADFRAC column in Rate-base mode. Operating pressure inside the column was also studied as key operating variable. Last, simulations of the complete siloxane capture processes were carried out to treat a realistic biogas stream, including the analysis of both absorption and regeneration columns. Process simulation results revealed that thermodynamics is the key property for the selection of ILs for siloxanes capture. Moreover, most of the selected ILs can satisfy silicon outlet concentration legislation (< 5 mgSi/Nm3 ) in almost all the studied operating conditions. Last, solvent regeneration using air stripping column demonstrated the reversibility of the process in mild conditions of temperature (100 °C) and vacuum pressure (0.1 bar). In sum, ILs are proposed as promising siloxanes absorbents of siloxanes-containing streams, mainly focused on biogas upgrading.0462Santiago, Rubén, Moya, Cristian y Palomar, José . An attempt to experimentally verify this theory is presented. Study design: Glottal voice source and electrolaryngograph (ELG) signal differences between vowels were analyzed in vowel sequences, sung at four pitches with the same degree of vocal loudness by professional opera singers. Also, the relationships between such differences and the frequency distance between the first formant (F1) and its closest partial were examined. Methods: A digital Laryngograph microprocessor was used to simultaneously record audio and ELG signals. The former was inverse-filtered and voice source parameters and formant frequencies were extracted. The amplitude quotient of the derivative of the ELG signal (AQdELG) and the contact quotient were also compared. Results: A one-way repeated measures ANOVA revealed significant differences between vowels, for contact quotient at four pitches and for MFDR at three pitches. For other voice source parameters, differences were found at one or two pitches only. No consistent correlation was found between MFDR and the distance between F1 and its closest partial. Conclusions: The glottal voice source tends to vary between vowels, presumably because of non-linear source-filter interaction, but the variation does not seem to be dependent upon the frequency distance between F1 and its closest partial0402Sundberg, Johan, Filipa M.B., Lã y Gill, Brian . Methods Ten classically trained singers (5 males and 5 females) were asked to sing messa di voce exercises on eight scale tones, performed in three consecutive conditions: baseline (‘before’), flow ball phonation (‘during’), and again without the flow ball (‘after’). These conditions were repeated eight times in a row: one scale tone at a time, on an ascending whole tone scale. Audio and electroglottographic signals were recorded using a Laryngograph microprocessor. Vocal fold contacting was assessed using three time-domain metrics of the EGG waveform, using FonaDyn. The quotient of contact by integration, Qci, the normalized peak derivative, QΔ, and the index of contacting Ic, were quantified and compared between ‘before’ and ‘after’ conditions. Results Effects of flow ball exercises depended on singers’ habitual phonatory behaviours and on the position in the voice range. As computed over the entire range of the task, Qci was reduced by about 2% in five of ten singers. QΔ was 2–6% lower in six of the singers, and 3–4% higher only in the two bass-baritones. Ic decreased by almost 4% in all singers. Conclusion Overall, vocal adduction was reduced and a gentler vocal fold collision was observed for the ‘after’ conditions. Significance Flow ball exercises may contribute to the modification of phonatory behaviours of vocal pressedness.0422Filipa M.B., Lã y Ternström, Sten . During this process, an oversized mandrel is pushed through the hole in order to yield it and generate compressive residual stresses contributing to the fatigue life extension of the hole. In this paper, a parametric analysis of the mandrel geometrical data (inlet angle straight zone length and diametric interference) and their influence on the residual stresses was carried out using a finite element method (FEM). The obtained results were compared with the conclusions presented in a previous parametric FEM analysis on the influence of the swage geometry in a swaging cold-forming process of gun barrels. This process could be considered, in a simplified way, as a scale-up of the cold expansion process of small holes, and this investigation demonstrated the influence of the diameter ratio (K) on the relation between the mandrel or swage geometry and the residual stresses obtained after the cold-forming process.0332Calaf-Chica, Jose, Marín, Marta M., Rubio, Eva María, Teti, Roberto y Segreto, Tiziana . Research on the COVID-19 pandemic benefiting from open-access data and machine learning algorithms is still scarce yet can produce relevant and pragmatic information. With country-level pre-COVID-19-pandemic variables, we aimed to cluster countries in groups with shared profiles of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Unsupervised machine learning algorithms (k-means) were used to define data-driven clusters of countries; the algorithm was informed by disease prevalence estimates, metrics of air pollution, socio-economic status and health system coverage. Using the one-way ANOVA test, we compared the clusters in terms of number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, number of deaths, case fatality rate and order in which the country reported the first case. Results: The model to define the clusters was developed with 155 countries. The model with three principal component analysis parameters and five or six clusters showed the best ability to group countries in relevant sets. There was strong evidence that the model with five or six clusters could stratify countries according to the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases (p<0.001). However, the model could not stratify countries in terms of number of deaths or case fatality rate. Conclusions: A simple data-driven approach using available global information before the COVID-19 pandemic, seemed able to classify countries in terms of the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases. The model was not able to stratify countries based on COVID-19 mortality data.0342Carrillo Larco, Rodrigo M. y Castillo Cara, Manuel . As a result, companies may need to assess whether their assets have been impaired and take an impairment charge if necessary. This caused companies in general to modify the accounting treatment under the international standard IFRS 9 applicable from 2018. The objective of this article is to determine the portfolio risk that affects the calculation of these provisions, through a case study in Ecuador. The research approach used was mixed (qualitative and quantitative), since various types of data collection tools were used to process the information. The data treatment in the qualitative approach consists of the analysis of the phenomenon related to the exploration for the understanding of the IFRS 9 accounting standard. On the other hand, the quantitative approach intends to analyze the research variables and measure them numerically with the use of statistical methods using Binary Logistic Regression. To this end, a database of clients of a non-financial company was analyzed, and the composition of its portfolio segmented by day of delay, observing the component called probability of default (PD), which was determined by binary logistic regression. A model was obtained that allowed to obtain the desired probability, and consequently under the approach of IFRS 9, the calculation of the expected credit loss (ECL). The results obtained estimated a portfolio impairment of 23%, compared to the baseline scenario of 9%.0312Manya Orellana, Marlon Vicente y González Rabanal, Miryam de la Concepción . It affects a large amount of people, it can cause a wide range of serious illnesses, and it is estimated to be the reason for 12000 premature deaths in Europe every year. Barcelona is above the 75th percentile of European cities exposed to harmful road traffic noise levels, and it is one of the most affected by nightly leisure noise. Several initiatives have been recently developed to address this problem, following the European regulations on this matter. The city provides a network of sensors to collect noise data at every minute all over the territory. We use noise data from 2017 to 2021 from a significant point of Barcelona. We process this information to transform it into an appropriate input for machine learning models, handling the missing values with the Prophet algorithm. Our multivariate time series problem is the following one: predicting the hourly noise values of the following 10 hours based on the previous 48 hourly values of noise and the values of weather and seasonal variables from the last hour. We compare different modelling approaches, all of them introduced with a theoretical framework. On the one hand, we use AutoML tools, such as TPOT and Keras, to determine optimal models for our problem. On the other hand, we manually tune Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), Long Short-Term Memory networks (LSTMs) and Gated Recurrent Units (GRUs), designed to perform well on long sequences of data. A manually tuned neural network combining RNN, LSTM and GRU layers outperformed all the other approaches with an average test RMSE of 3.412 dB(A) over all prediction horizons. Neural networks, though, are often considered black boxes, because they are so complex that it is very hard for the developers to justify the decisions they make. Therefore, in this work there is a theoretical introduction about the explainability of machine learning and deep learning models, focused on SHAP (Shapley Additive explanation) values. The Deep SHAP method is used to calculate the importance of the features on the predictions of the RNN-LSTM-GRU model. The feature with the highest contribution to the output is a seasonal variable informing the hour range of the day, followed by the noise in the three most recent hours.0Doctoral Thesis3242Jordà Mascaró, Marc. Pulsations in main sequence OBAF-type starsbibliuned:95-Lmsarro-0007Context. The third Gaia data release provides photometric time series covering 34 months for about 10 million stars. For many of those stars, a characterisation in Fourier space and their variability classification are also provided. This paper focuses on intermediate- to high-mass (IHM) main sequence pulsators (M ≥ 1.3 M) of spectral types O, B, A, or F, known as βCep, slowly pulsating B (SPB), δ Sct, and γ Dor stars. These stars are often multi-periodic and display low amplitudes, making them challenging targets to analyse with sparse time series. Aims. We investigate the extent to which the sparse Gaia DR3 data can be used to detect OBAF-type pulsators and discriminate them from other types of variables. We aim to probe the empirical instability strips and compare them with theoretical predictions. The most populated variability class is that of the δ Sct variables. For these stars, we aim to confirm their empirical period-luminosity (PL) relation, and verify the relation between their oscillation amplitude and rotation. Methods. All datasets used in this analysis are part of the Gaia DR3 data release. The photometric time series were used to perform a Fourier analysis, while the global astrophysical parameters necessary for the empirical instability strips were taken from the Gaia DR3 gspphot tables, and the v sin i data were taken from the Gaia DR3 esphs tables. The δ Sct PL relation was derived using the same photometric parallax method as the one recently used to establish the PL relation for classical Cepheids using Gaia data. Results. We show that for nearby OBAF-type pulsators, the Gaia DR3 data are precise and accurate enough to pinpoint them in the Hertzsprung Russell (HR) diagram. We find empirical instability strips covering roader regions than theoretically predicted. In particular, our study reveals the presence of fast rotating gravity-mode pulsators outside the strips, as well as the co-existence of rotationally modulated variables inside the strips as reported before in the literature. We derive an extensive period–luminosity relation for δ Sct stars and provide evidence that the relation features different regimes depending on the oscillation period. We demonstrate how stellar rotation attenuates the amplitude of the dominant oscillation mode of δ Sct stars. Conclusions. The Gaia DR3 time-series photometry already allows for the detection of the dominant (non-)radial oscillation mode in about 100 000 intermediate- and high-mass dwarfs across the entire sky. This detection capability will increase as the time series becomes longer, allowing the additional delivery of frequencies and amplitudes of secondary pulsation modes.0242<a class="citation_author_name" title="Navegar por nombre de Autor de Ridder, J. The challenge is, however, to provide easy, quick and relevant access to the vast amount of information that is available. One step towards facilitating information access to online health data is opinion mining. Even though the classification of patient opinions into positive and negative has been previously tackled, most works make use of machine learning methods and bags of words. Our first contribution is an extensive evaluation of different features, including lexical, syntactic, semantic, network-based, sentiment-based and word embeddings features to represent patient-authored texts for polarity classification. The second contribution of this work is the study of polar facts (i.e. objective information with polar connotations). Traditionally, the presence of polar facts has been neglected and research in polarity classification has been bounded to opinionated texts. We demonstrate the existence and importance of polar facts for the polarity classification of health information. Material and methods We annotate a set of more than 3500 posts to online health forums of breast cancer, crohn and different allergies, respectively. Each sentence in a post is manually labeled as “experience”, “fact” or “opinion”, and as “positive”, “negative” and “neutral”. Using this data, we train different machine learning algorithms and compare traditional bags of words representations with word embeddings in combination with lexical, syntactic, semantic, network-based and emotional properties of texts to automatically classify patient-authored contents into positive, negative and neutral. Beside, we experiment with a combination of textual and semantic representations by generating concept embeddings using the UMLS Metathesaurus. Results We reach two main results: first, we find that it is possible to predict polarity of patient-authored contents with a very high accuracy (≈ 70 percent) using word embeddings, and that this considerably outperforms more traditional representations like bags of words; and second, when dealing with medical information, negative and positive facts (i.e. objective information) are nearly as frequent as negative and positive opinions and experiences (i.e. subjective information), and their importance for polarity classification is crucial.0352Carrillo de Albornoz, Jorge, Rodríguez-Vidal, Javier y Plaza, Laura . The present study aims at the development and validation of a scale to measure self-perceived menopausal voice-related limitation to work in FPVUs, henceforth the Menopausal Voice-Related Work Limitation Scale (MenoVWL). Methods Items were drawn from previous studies on impacts of sex steroid hormones on voice, available validated scales, and in-depth interviews with post-menopausal FPVUs. A preliminary version with 16 items was evaluated by a panel of 15 voice experts. The resulting revised version was filled in online, together with questions on current endocrinological reproductive status and related symptoms, history of amenorrhea, professional occupation, and demographic information. Responses concerning only professional voice users were selected and inclusive and exclusive criteria were applied for correct allocation of participants into pre- and post-menopausal stages within a restrict age range;192 responses were subject to factorial analysis for MenoVWL validation. Cronbach's alpha measured internal reliability. The scale was tested by comparing MenoVWL scores between pre- and post-menopausal FPVUs (98 and 94, respectively). Results Thirteen items were retained from the expert panel evaluation. Items presented a high Content Validity Index (.94 out of 1) and high Item Acceptance Ratio (86.25 %). Both exploratory and confirmatory factorial analysis rendered one dimension scale with an excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = .9). The results of a Mann-Whitney test showed a higher MenoVWL score for post- as compared to pre-menopausal FPVUs (Z = - 2.818; P = .005). Conclusions MenoVWL is a comprehensive and validated scale with a known factor structure. It constitutes a health care and safety outcome self-perceived measure of value to the early detection of voice-related limitations to work in FPVUs during menopause.0602Filipa M.B., Lã, Ramírez, Ana M., Ardura, Diego, Fiuza, Mauro B. y Polo, Nuria . Properties and assessmentbibliuned:95-Lmsarro-0008Context. We report the exploitation of a sample of Solar System observations based on data from the third Gaia Data Release (Gaia DR3) of nearly 157 000 asteroids. It extends the epoch astrometric solution over the time coverage planned for the Gaia DR4, which is not expected before the end of 2025. This data set covers more than one full orbital period for the vast majority of these asteroids. The orbital solutions are derived from the Gaia data alone over a relatively short arc compared to the observation history of many of these asteroids. Aims. The work aims to produce orbital elements for a large set of asteroids based on 66 months of ccurate astrometry provided by Gaia and to assess the accuracy of these orbital solutions with a omparison to the best available orbits derived from independent observations. A second validation is performed with accurate occultation timings. Methods. We processed the raw astrometric measurements of Gaia to obtain astrometric positions of moving objects with 1D sub-mas accuracy at the bright end. For each asteroid that we matched to the data, an orbit fitting was attempted in the form of the best fit of the initial conditions at the median epoch. The force model included Newtonian and relativistic accelerations to derive the observation equations, which were solved with a linear least-squares fit. Results. Orbits are provided in the form of state vectors in the International Celestial Reference Frame for 156 764 asteroids, including near-Earth objects, main-belt asteroids, and Trojans. For the asteroids with the best observations, the (formal) relative uncertainty σa/a is better than 10−10. Results are compared to orbits available from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and MPC. Their orbits are based on much longer data arcs, but from positions of lower quality. The relative differences in semi-major axes have a mean of 5 × 10−10 and a scatter of 5 × 10−9.0252David, P., Mignard, F., Hestroffer, D., <a class="citation_author_name" title="Navegar por nombre de Autor de P. We aimed to characterize the size, position, circulation, and kinetic energy (KE) of LV main vortex cores in patients with nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM) and analyze their physiological correlates. We used digital processing of color-Doppler images to study flow evolution in 61 patients with NIDCM and 61 age-matched control subjects. Vortex features showed a characteristic biphasic temporal course during diastole. Because late filling contributed significantly to flow entrainment, vortex KE reached its maximum at the time of the peak A wave, storing 26 ± 20% of total KE delivered by inflow (range: 1–74%). Patients with NIDCM showed larger and stronger vortices than control subjects (circulation: 0.008 ± 0.007 vs. 0.006 ± 0.005 m2/s, respectively, P = 0.02; KE: 7 ± 8 vs. 5 ± 5 mJ/m, P = 0.04), even when corrected for LV size. This helped confining the filling jet in the dilated ventricle. The vortex Reynolds number was also higher in the NIDCM group. By multivariate analysis, vortex KE was related to the KE generated by inflow and to chamber short-axis diameter. In 21 patients studied head to head, Doppler measurements of circulation and KE closely correlated with phase-contract magnetic resonance values (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.82 and 0.76, respectively). Thus, the biphasic nature of filling determines normal vortex physiology. Vortex formation is exaggerated in patients with NIDCM due to chamber remodeling, and enlarged vortices are helpful for ameliorating convective pressure losses and facilitating transport. These findings can be accurately studied using ultrasound. intraventricular vortex dynamics may have an important role in cardiac hemodynamics. During early filling and atrial contraction, strong jets entering the left ventricle (LV) lead to the formation of vortex rings near the tips of the mitral valve leaflets. Due to the chiral configuration formed by the LV inflow tract, main chamber, and LV outflow tract (LVOT), these vortex rings evolve into large rotational flow structures that occupy a large fraction of the ventricle. Recent clinical data in patients with diastolic dysfunction indicate that LV vortices may facilitate flow from the left atrium to the LV apex (6). Also, vortical structures may increase ejection efficiency by conserving the momentum of blood built up during filling (1). Finally, vortices may contribute to blood mixing inside the ventricle, avoiding stasis (6, 19, 30, 32, 33, 40). Because impaired diastolic function, reduced mechanical efficiency, and risk of thrombosis characteristically concur in patients with nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM), addressing the physical properties of intraventricular vortices is particularly relevant in this condition. Recent ultrasound (1, 19, 29), computational (28), and phase-contrast magnetic resonance (PC-MR) (3, 6, 11–13) studies have described intraventricular flow characteristics in small numbers of patients with normal and dilated hearts. We hypothesized that significant physiological insights can be gained by comprehensively studying the temporal dynamics and correlates of intraventricular vortex development. We also hypothesized that impaired chamber properties in patients with NIDCM may be associated with modified vortex physiology. Therefore, the present study was designed to characterize the dynamics of vortex position, size, and strength along the cardiac cycle in patients with NIDCM and age-matched healthy control subjects. The physiological relevance of vortices relative to the global LV kinetic energy (KE) balance was also analyzed in detail. We used a custom-developed method that allowed us to measure two-dimensional (2-D) flow using conventional color-Doppler ultrasound (17). Because most previous evidence in this field has been reported using PC-MR, the ultrasound-based method was compared in vivo against this technique in a subset of NIDCM patients.0412Bermejo, Javier, Benito, Yolanda, Alhama, Marta, Yotti, Raquel, Martínez-Legazpi, Pablo, Pérez del Villar, Candelas, Pérez-David, Esther, González-Mansilla, Ana, Santa Marta Pastrana, Cristina, Barrio, Alicia, Fernández-Avilés, Francisco y del Álamo, Juan C. . Based on Thissen and Steinberg multiple-choice models, the MCMO defines omitted responses as the result of the respondent not knowing the correct answer and deciding to omit rather than to guess given a latent propensity to omit. Firstly, using a Monte Carlo simulation, the accuracy of the parameters estimated from data with different sample sizes (500, 1,000, and 2,000 subjects), test lengths (20, 40, and 80 items) and percentages of omissions (5, 10, and 15%) were investigated. Later, the appropriateness of the MCMO to the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) Advanced 2015 mathematics and physics multiple-choice items was analyzed and compared with the Holman and Glas' Between-item Multi-dimensional IRT model (B-MIRT) and with the three-parameter logistic (3PL) model with omissions treated as incorrect responses. The results of the simulation study showed a good recovery of scale and position parameters. Pseudo-guessing parameters (d) were less accurate, but this inaccuracy did not seem to have an important effect on the estimation of abilities. The precision of the propensity to omit strongly depended on the ability values (the higher the ability, the worse the estimate of the propensity to omit). In the empirical study, the empirical reliability for ability estimates was high in both physics and mathematics. As in the simulation study, the estimates of the propensity to omit were less reliable and their precision varied with ability. Regarding the absolute item fit, the MCMO fitted the data better than the other models. Also, the MCMO offered significant increments in convergent validity between scores from multiple-choice and constructed-response items, with an increase of around 0.02 to 0.04 in R2 in comparison with the two other methods. Finally, the high correlation between the country means of the propensity to omit in mathematics and physics suggests that (1) the propensity to omit is somehow affected by the country of residence of the examinees, and (2) the propensity to omit is independent of the test contents0282Schames Kreitchmann, Rodrigo, Abad, Francisco José y Ponsoda, Vicente . First, by means of Conductor-like-Screening Model for Real Solvents (COSMO-RS) method, molecular simulations were conducted to select ILs with adequate thermodynamic (Henry’s law constants) and kinetic (diffusion coefficients) properties as acetylene absorbents, using N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) as benchmark industrial solvent for such solute absorption. Then, the operating units of acetylene absorption of an acetylene and argon mixture, and exhausted solvent regeneration were modeled in Aspen Plus. Simulations of absorption column using equilibrium based design model demonstrated that at least two ILs (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium cation and acetate and sulfonate anions) present competitive solvent performance in acetylene absorption respect to DMF. In contrast, process analyses with a more realistic rate-based column model revealed that the mass transfer rate clearly controls the acetylene absorption with ILs compared to DMF, due to their viscosity differences. Finally, modeling solvent regeneration stage showed clear advantages of using ILs as acetylene absorbents since efficient acetylene recovery is achieved by flash distillation (vacuum pressure and temperature increase), operation hindered in the case of DMF due to is high volatility, requiring the solvent regeneration by a distillation equipment with higher operating and investment costs. Current COSMO-based/Aspen Plus approach has been demonstrated useful to perform preliminary analyses of the potential application of ILs in new separation processes, before starting with experimental essays, highly demanding in cost and time.0342Santiago, Rubén, Bedia, J., Moreno, D., Moya, C., Riva, J. de, Larriba, M. y Palomar, José . Exploring and mapping the diffuse interstellar band at 862 nmbibliuned:95-Lmsarro-0009Context. Diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) are common interstellar absorption features in spectroscopic observations but their origins remain unclear. DIBs play an important role in the life cycle of the interstellar medium (ISM) and can also be used to trace Galactic structure. Aims. Here, we demonstrate the capacity of the Gaia-Radial Velocity Spectrometer (RVS) in Gaia DR3 to reveal the spatial distribution of the unknown molecular species responsible for the most prominent DIB at 862 nm in the RVS passband, exploring the Galactic ISM within a few kiloparsecs from the Sun. Methods. The DIBs are measured within the GSP-Spec module using a Gaussian profile fit for cool stars and a Gaussian process for hot stars. In addition to the equivalent widths and their uncertainties, Gaia DR3 provides their characteristic central wavelength, width, and quality flags. Results. We present an extensive sample of 476 117 individual DIB measurements obtained in a homogeneous way covering the entire sky. We compare spatial distributions of the DIB carrier with interstellar reddening and find evidence that DIB carriers are present in a local bubble around the Sun which contains nearly no dust. We characterised the DIB equivalent width with a local density of 0.19 ± 0.04 Å kpc−1 and a scale height of 98.60+11.10 −8.46 pc. The latter is smaller than the dust scale height, indicating that DIBs are more concentrated towards the Galactic plane. We determine the rest-frame wavelength with unprecedented precision (λ0 = 8620.86 ±0.019 Å in air) and reveal a remarkable correspondence between the DIB velocities and the CO gas velocities, suggesting that the 862 nm DIB carrier is related to macro-molecules. Conclusions. We demonstrate the unique capacity of Gaia to trace the spatial structure of the Galactic ISM using the 862 nm DIB.0312Schultheis, M., Zhao, H., <a class="citation_author_name" title="Navegar por nombre de Autor de D.
