with goats and sheep. They hoid a special and central place in economy of
agro-pastoral ancient society in Mesopotamia, providing good resources
of meat, dairy producís, leather and dung, besides labor and draft.
However, the highest cost of cattie breeding resulted in a poor diet from
these peoples and led to the almost exclusive possession of these animáis
by the ruling classes. The valuable and commercial characteristic of
cattie was transferred to the religious sphere where its offering and sacrifico
became the best gift for the divinity. The sacrificial feasts turned out to
be, in many cases, an excellent occasion for the consumption of a special
dish which only few people could normally enjoy everyday life.05422Delgado Linacero, Cristina . This article describes the presence of the sābītum (MÍ.KURUN.NA) in the Mesopotamian legal texts. These two words were used by the Scribes in order to refer to the woman that worked as «Alewife». With the exception of the Middle Assyrian Laws, the Code of (Hammurabi), the Laws of (EXnunna) and the Edict of (AmmiSaduqa) were written in the first half of the 2nd millennium B.C. All this legal sources confirm that the sābītum managed the É.KURUN.NA «Brewpub». In this public establishment the sābītum produced and sold sībum (KURUN.NA) «beer» and basic goods. In addition, this legal texts corpus contains the violation of laws that could be committed by the sābītum as well as the corresponding punishments if she violated them. The Brewing commercial activity generated by the sabitū (MÍ.KURUN.NA.MEI) was appreciably notorious in the Paleobabilonic society, as they offered loans to their potential customers, especially by cash or in kind. However, this character lost her prestige in the society since her business premises were used as brothel.06882Pino Cano, Juan Antonio . This essay analyses the writings of Jovellanos and Martinez Marina, and argues the existence of a discourse of commercial modernity compatible with Catholicism but different from proposals derived from Jansenism. This new discourse not only allowed for a combination of citizenship and Catholicism, but also it was grounded in an understanding of the concept of «interest» and «self-love» as being both part of the human nature and an obligation derived from the Supreme Creator. In these terms, the discourse permitted the legitimization of the society as completely civilized. The results of this essay are part of a wider research project about the passions in the Catholic Monarchy during the Eighteenth Century.04662Viejo Yharrassarry, Julen .
