As other spatio-temporal problems, traffic prediction deals with both temporal and spatial nonlinear relationships, with the particularity that nearby points in the Euclidean space might be allocated in different roads, adding another layer of complexity. Traffic prediction has witnessed a revolution with the appearance of deep learning, with graph neural networks being prominently responsible for a steep increase in forecasting accuracy. In this paper, we consider the use of an automatic attention mechanism in order to improve the prediction capabilities of a traffic graph convolutional network. This model is based on the composition of gated recurrent units and graph convolution networks to model space and time simultaneously. To overcome the spatial modelling limitations of the original model, our proposal replaces the graph convolutional layer with a graph attention mechanism. Our aim is to model spatial relations in an automatic, more dynamic way. In order to prove the validity and usefulness of our proposal, we have performed a thorough experimentation over two known traffic datasets used in previous research, plus a new, complex one which we have curated and published. Our results portray a clear and statistically significant advantage with the inclusion of spatial attention, surpassing the performance of a wide set of state-of-the-art models on every tested scenario.0Doctoral Thesis762Gadea Pérez, Raúl. Method: Three tests (i.e., Nesplora Aquarium, BDI, and STAI) were used to obtain a standardized measure of attention, as well as the existence and severity of depression and anxiety, respectively. Results: Significant differences (CI = 95%) were found between the control group and the group with depression, in variables related to the speed of visual processing (p = 0.008) in the absence of distractors (p = 0.041) and during the first dual execution task (p = 0.011). For scores related to sustained attention, patients with depression and those with anxiety did not differ from controls. Our results suggest attentional deficits in both clinical populations when performing a continuous performance test that involved the participation of the central executive system of working memory.0272Camacho Conde, José Antonio, Legarra, Leire, Bolinches, Vanesa M., Cano, Patricia, Guasch, Mónica, Llanos Torres, María, Serret, Vanessa, Mejía, Miguel y Climent, Gema . In the current study, a total of 54 adults (43 females, mean age=25 years, SD=10 years) completed a Trait Emotional Intelligence (TEI) scale and took part in three eye-tracking tasks, where they viewed (1) faces with different emotions (happy, angry, fearful, neutral), (2) 16-face crowds with varying ratios of happy to angry faces, and (3) 4 visual scenes (physical threat, social threat, positive social, neutral). Findings showed that higher TEI was associated with more attention to positive emotional stimuli (happy faces, positive social scenes), relative to negative and neutral stimuli. An attentional preference for positive rather than negative emotional stimuli may be one way that TEI affords protection from stressors to promote mental health.0412Leaa, Rosanna G., Qualterb, Pamela, Davisa, Sarah K., Pérez-González, Juan Carlos y Bangee, Munirah . Behavioral resultstesisuned:ED-Pg-PsiSal-EruizThis Thesis is organized in 7 chapters: the theoretical framework, the cognitive changes associated with normal and pathological aging and the contribution of video games programs to prevent the cognitive decline at different age stages, two publications of the interventions with video games in young and older adults, and the main conclusions of the current work. The number of publications related to the effects of video-game training has increased substantially in recent decades, from 15 papers per year during the 90s, to 350 papers in 2015 (Palaus, Marron, Viejo-Sobera, & Redolar-Ripoll, 2017). Video games have many advantages in terms of availability, engagement and cost (Joddrell & Astell, 2016; Burgers, Eden, Van Engelenburg, & Buningh, 2015) but their neurocognitive benefits are still subject to debate. Some authors found positive results derived from video game training (Cain, Landau, & Shimamura, 2012; Shawn Green & Bavelier, 2003; Mondéjar, Hervás, Johnson, Gutierrez, & Latorre, 2016), while others could not replicate them or find any benefit (Irons, Remington, & McLean, 2011; Kable et al. 2017; Murphy & Spencer, 2009). Due to this lack of consensus in the literature about the neurocognitive benefits of video-game training, many studies have pointed out the importance of using an appropriate methodological approach for these kinds of interventions. “The gold standard design” consists in a double blinded study with randomization of participants and an appropriate active control group that matches the experimental group, where placebo effects depending on motivation, engagement and expectations are controlled, and which measures the transfer of learning from the intervention to the neurocognitive functions under study (Boot et al., 2011; Boot & Simons, 2012; Boot et al., 2013; Simons et al., 2016; Shawn Green, Strobach, & Schubert, 2014; Dale & Shawn Green, 2017; García- Betances, Cabrera-Umpiérrez, & Arredondo, 2017; Schubert, Strobach, & Karbach, 2014; Seitz, 2018). Trying to follow these guidelines, we conducted two randomized interventions to analyze the effects of brain-game training on memory and attentional functions in young and older adults. A recent meta-analysis of action video game training studies found that healthy young and older adults benefited from training in overall and specific cognitive domains, but that young adults benefited more than older adults (Wang et al., 2017). It has been studied that brain neuroplasticity continues throughout the lifespan, but how the changes are regulated depends on age (Kolb & Muhammad, 2014; Merzenich, Van Vleet, & Nahum, 2014). Neurocognitive decline associated with normal aging mainly affects memory (working memory, episodic memory, information retrieval and consolidation), executive functions (decision making, problem solving and mental control), attentional networks (selective and divided attention and visuospatial abilities) and reaction times. Thus, it is a priority to investigate the effects of cognitive stimulation programs and optimize them. Among these programs, video games offer many advantages because they are enjoyable, adaptive and engaging for aging people (Chesham, Wyss, Müri, Mosimann, & Nef, 2017) Moreover, neurocognitive deficits associated with normal aging usually occur in pathological aging, with differences in degree, intensity, frequency and temporal distribution (de Flores, La Joie, & Chételat, 2015; Hullinger & Puglielli, 2017). It is therefore essential to study normal and pathological aging, the mechanisms that these processes share, and the stimulation programs that could help to avoid or attenuate them. We firstly conducted an intervention with healthy older adults to measure the effects of non-action adaptive mental games on the cognition of older and young participants, specifically working memory, selective attention, distraction and response inhibition. The results showed that brain games and other kinds of video games such as simulation games could positively benefit the attention and working memory of older adults, but the effects are moderate in terms of near and far transfer of learning. However, older adults showed no gains in inhibitory control after training with non-action video games. Then, we conducted a second intervention with adults aging between 18 and 35 years old. Analysis showed that young adults can transfer learning from non-action adaptive brain games to attention and visuo-spatial working memory with moderate effect sizes, and the positive results could also be obtained with other non-action video games such as simulation games. Nonetheless, playing non-action video games did not improve inhibition responses in young adults either. However, as we did not have a non- intervention control group, we cannot conclude that adaptive non-active video games had an effect. Future studies should include both an active control group and a no-contact group.0Doctoral Thesis8192Ruíz Márquez, Eloísa. <a class="citation_title" title="Click para ver : Video-game training effects on attention and memory in young and older adults. The first study analyzed the relationship between dimensions of EI and aspects of empathy, in a sample of 856 participants who completed two measures of EI, the trait meta-mood scale (TMMS) and the trait emotional intelligence questionnaire (TEIQue), and a measure of empathy, the interpersonal reactivity index (IRI). The results showed a similar pattern of significant positive relations in all the EI domains with empathic perspective-taking (PT), and significant negative relationships with empathic personal distress (PD), except for the EI domain of attention, which had a positive relationship. Stepwise multiple regression analyses showed that the dimension that best predicted empathic PT and empathic concern (EC) was the emotionality factor; whereas attention best predicted empathic fantasy; and the self-control factor best predicted PD, although negatively. Gender emerged as a predictor of three empathic aspects, fantasy, EC, and PD, with women obtaining higher scores than men in all of them. Age was the only predictor of fantasy, with a negative relationship. The second study involved 646 people who completed the same measures of EI as the participants of the first study and the mini-profile of non-verbal sensitivity (Mini-PONS). The results showed some significant relationships between EI dimensions and the channels and quadrants of the MiniPONS. Stepwise multiple regression analyses showed that very few EI dimensions predicted non-verbal sensitivity, with attention obtaining the best result. Both gender and age emerged as predictors, some in unique cases, of channels, quadrants, and of the total score of non-verbal sensitivity; age had a negative relationship, and women obtained higher scores than men.0452Fernández Abascal, Enrique G. y Martín Díaz, María Dolores . In this work we present a multistep tailored preprocessing consisting mainly of brain extraction, intensity contrast enhancement, subject based slice cropping and intensity standardization. The segmentation task is then performed by a fully convolutional neural network with attention gates which employs a customized loss function based on the dice similarity coecient and the F1 score. Experimental results on the white matter hyperintensities segmentation challenge [Kuijf et al., 2019] show that our proposed preprocessing improves segmentation, that attention gated U-Net further improves segmentation tasks compared to the original U-Net and our proposed loss function has the potential to improve lesion-wise F1 on DSC based segmentations.0Doctoral Thesis2982Duque Asens, Pablo. Less attention has been paid to the spectral and physiological properties that characterize Kulning tones, and also if there is a physiologically optimum pitch range. We analyzed tones produced by ten participants with varying experience in Kulning. They performed a phrase, pitch range G5 to C6 (784 to 1046 Hz), in three different conditions: starting (1) on pitch A5, (2) on the participant's preferred pitch, and (3) after the deepest possible inhalation, also on the participant's preferred pitch subglottal pressure (Psub) was measured as the oral pressure during /p/-occlusion. The quality of the Kulning was rated by a group of experts. The highest-rated tones all had a sound pressure level (SPL) at 0.3 m exceeding 115 dB and a pitch higher than 1010 Hz, while the SPL of the lowest rated tones was less than 108 dB at a pitch below 900 Hz. A multiple regression analysis was performed to evaluate the relationship between the ratings and Psub), SPL, level of the fundamental and the frequency at which a spectrum envelope dip occurred. Highly rated tones were started at maximum lung volumes, and on participants’ preferred pitches. They all shared a high frequency of the spectrum envelope dip and a high level of the fundamental. In decreasing order of ratings, Condition 3 showed the highest values followed by Condition 2 and Condition 1. Each singer seemed to perform best within an individual Psub and pitch range. The relevance of the results to voice pedagogy, artistic, and compositional work is discussed.0452Rosenberg, Susanne, Sundberg, Johan y Filipa M.B., Lã . una comparación entre el diseño e inicio
y fracaso escolar, analfabetismo y trabajo
This article establishes a comparison between,
on the one hand, the springboard of
a public system for childhood protection in
Morocco, particularly in Tanger. On the other,
a social services’ system developed in Spain
as a best practices experience with infants
and teenagers in social risk.
The Moroccan Government, on its 2006-
2015 Action Plan for Childhood, holds the
responsibility of designing an attention and
protection system on every medium and big
size city through childhood protection units.
Besides the existent severe situations of risk
(school failure and abandonment, illiteracy,
child work…), it is the pressure from other
countries that contributes to the implementation
of these public policies, as an strategy
for preventing irregular child migration.
Tanger, as an strategic border town, has
been chosen in particular in this article
because there are many children waiting on
its streets for the opportunity to migrate.
That’s why institutions and partnerships in
Tanger work together to develop an attention
and protection system for an extremely
vulnerable group.06552López Gallego, David and García Andrés, Eva . We examined the neural underpinnings of the processing of lexical input designed to tap into these type of social feelings. Brainwave responses from 20 participants were measured as they read sentences comprising a randomly delivered ending outcome (fortunate or unfortunate) to social agents previously profiled as prosocial or antisocial individuals. Fortunate outcomes delivered to prosocial and antisocial agents aimed to tap into empathy and envy/ annoying feelings, respectively, whereas unfortunate ones into compassion for prosocial agents and schadenfreude for antisocial ones. ERP modulations in early attention-capture (100-200 ms), semantic fit (400 ms), and late reanalysis processes (600 ms) were analyzed. According to the functional interpretation of each of these event-related electrophysiological effects, we conclude that: 1) a higher capture of attention is initially obtained in response to any type of outcome delivered to a prosocial versus an antisocial agent (frontal P2); 2) a facilitated semantic processing occurs for unfortunate outcomes delivered to antisocial agents (N400); and 3) regardless of the protagonist’s social profile, an increased later reevaluation for overall unfortunate versus fortunate outcomes takes place (Late Positive Potential). Thus, neural online measures capture a stepwise unfolding impact of social factors during language comprehension, which include a facilitated processing of misfortunes when they happen to occur to antisocial peers (i.e., schadenfreude)0322Rodríguez-Gómez, Pablo, Martín-Loeches, Manuel, Colmenares, Fernando y Romero Ferreiro, María-Verónica . While Spain is no exception, the issue of why some women in this country choose to forego motherhood has received little attention. Drawing on the Spanish Survey on Fertility and Values (2006), this study analyzes the weight in the decision of three groups of variables having proven crucial for fertility behaviour. Individual socioeconomic circumstances related to the costs of motherhood, the delay in economic independence and union formation, and attitudinal work and family orientations prove all important; which indicates Spain's resemblance to other Western societies. Still, the particularly manifest relevance of a delayed transition to adulthood brings the Spanish case especially close to the Italian one; raising further questions on the fine line separating chosen from accepted childlessness in Southern Europe.0382Seiz, Marta . Linguistic and cultural hindrances pose specific difficulties to the translator, who has to seek specific strategies to overcome them. Researchers have turned attention to this field and have for the past few decades tried to decipher the workings of humour, and find ways to transpose humour from one language to another. This paper offers an overview of the theoretical framework concerned with humour translation and a case study which is an attempt to apply the main ideas to the practice of humour translation.0Doctoral Thesis10692Fors Soriano, Gemma (2013). Difficulties and strategies for the translation of humour: a case study,Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (España). Firstly, it considers people excluded from the system and, on a second stage, attention is brought towards those agents acting as social mediators. A quantitative methodology of analysis was applied to the interactions occurred in a sample of 1,361 participants at ECO Portal’s course “Education Innovation and Professional Development. Possibilities and Limits of the ICTs”. Results show that ECO has massively promoted sMOOC-based training and has become present, not only in Europe, but also in a wider geographical spread, particularly in developing countries. Such training offering has been highly valued by participants in aspects related to the knowledge acquired and them feeling active role-players in the education process, which increases their commitment towards sharing that training in diverse social environments and, as a result, makes a significant impact on social inclusion processes.04612Marta-Lazo, Carmen, Osuna-Acedo, Sara y Gil-Quintana, Javier . discursos sobre la organización territorial

demócratas y republicanos desde 1840
hasta 1868. Se presta especial atención,
además, a los antecedentes de estas
concepciones en el liberalismo doceañista
y exaltado y a las formulaciones más
avanzadas que se elaboraron durante el
Sexenio Democrático. Se argumenta que
estos sectores defendían una
descentralización administrativa pese a
que designaran su modelo con el término
«federalismo»: las competencias que se
reservaban a provincias y municipios eran
básicamente económico-administrativas,
mientras que el Estado central se debía
hacer cargo de los asuntos políticos, y
existía una jerarquía entre las distintas

The European Union (EU), compared to China and the United States, is losing its capacity for innovation and control over data and fundamental raw materials and could even lose ground in the regulatory power it has in the digital realm. This paper pays special attention to the situation and progress toward a new European policy to achieve digital strategic autonomy. It also briefly outlines the Recovery Plan for Europe as a possible incentive for its promotion. Both descriptive and analytical methods were employed to gather the data from secondary sources and provide reliable research results. The major findings of this article are that strategic autonomy is an imperative requirement for sustaining and encouraging European integration, forcing the EU to advance faster toward developing critical digital technologies. There is also an urgent need to secure critical parts of supply chains and data protection, intellectual property, and defense against disinformation. Finally, the European Union must improve its resilience to face new crises and lead the digitalization of its economy.0622Benedicto Solsona, Miguel Ángel y Czubala Ostapiuk, Marcin Roman . normal quantum simple fluids : application to quantum hard spheresbibliuned:DptoCTFQ-FCIE-MODELICO-1035A systematic study of the direct computation of the isothermal compressibility of normal quantum
fluids is presented by analyzing the solving of the Ornstein-Zernike integral equation (OZ2) for the
pair correlations between the path-integral necklace centroids. A number of issues related to the
accuracy that can be achieved via this sort of procedure have been addressed, paying particular
attention to the finite-N effects and to the definition of significant error bars for the estimates of
isothermal compressibilities. Extensive path-integral Monte Carlo computations for the quantum
hard-sphere fluid (QHS) have been performed in the (N,V,T) ensemble under temperature and
density conditions for which dispersion effects dominate the quantum behavior. These
computations have served to obtain the centroid correlations, which have been processed further
via the numerical solving of the OZ2 equation. To do so, Baxter-Dixon-Hutchinson’s variational
procedure complemented with Baumketner-Hiwatari’s grand-canonical corrections have been
used. The virial equation of state has also been obtained and several comparisons between different
versions of the QHS equation of state have been made. The results show the reliability of the
procedure based on isothermal compressibilities discussed herein, which can then be regarded as a
useful and quick means of obtaining the equation of state for fluids under quantum conditions
involving strong repulsive interactions.Versión Pre-print05692Sesé, Luis M. . This trend is known as XAI and brings certain advantages such as increased confidence in the decision-making process, improved capacity for error analysis, verification of results and possibility of model refinement, among others. In this work we have focused on interpreting the predictions of recently developed deep learning models through different visualization techniques. The use case we introduce is the detection of breast cancer through the classification of mammographies, since the medical field is widely benefited by the contributions of XAI methods. Furthermore, the target neural networks are based on recent and poorly explored architectures. These are the Vision Transformer model, built through attention blocks, and EfficientNet, designed to improve the performance of convolutional networks.0Doctoral Thesis2812Rodríguez Sampayo, Marta. An important limitation of this research field is the lack of annotated datasets, which could be minimized with Sign Segmentation approaches by automating the costly task of manually annotating the beginning and ending of each sign. The goal of this paper is to study the performance of an architecture which combines I3D CNN extracted features with a transformer-based model called ASFormer which was created specifically for Action Segmentation task. In our approach ASFormer, instead of separating actions in motions is separating signs in a signed speech. Several ablation studies are performed, and it is shown that ASFormer is suitable for segmenting the signs, with a performance near the ones of the state-of-the-art models, confirming the promising benefits of using attention-based approaches in this field.0Doctoral Thesis2102Pérez Villegas, Luis Francisco. While alarm bells have long been recognised as a prevalent element of popular revolt in Europe from medieval times, they have received limited specific scholarly attention. This study provides an overview of the historical significance of this distinctive sound and examines its material aspects. Subsequently, the paper investigates several instances of bell-ringing during Castilian riots, as reflected in archival sources, and analyses its meaning both for townspeople and the authorities. In attempting to elucidate the reasons behind the aversion this sound provoked among the privileged classes and the authorities, the study explores the political, ritual, and sonic dimensions of the rebato.0272Mauro, Hernández . After a detailed study of the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model, the tradeoff curve between end-to-end correlations and the energy gap of the chains is obtained using machine-learning techniques, paying special attention to the scaling behavior with the chain length. We find that edge-dimerized chains, where the second and penultimate hoppings are reinforced, are very often close to the optimal configurations. Our results allow us to conjecture that, given a fixed gap, the maximal attainable correlation falls exponentially with the system size. Study of the entanglement entropy and contour of the optimal configurations suggest that the bulk entanglement pattern is minimally modified from the clean case.0272Santos, Hernán, Alvarellos, José E. y Rodríguez-Laguna, Javier . Born as an applied movement within positive psychology, positive education aims to introduce a positive approach to education to aid schools in promoting happiness, improving learning and performance, and reducing mental health problems among children and adolescents. Whereas relatively new, positive education has made notable progress and bears enormous potential. However, the movement still presents vulnerabilities and limitations that need addressing. With a focus on critical and supporting literature, this integrative review explores and brings together some of the most pressing challenges that positive education faces today. Tackling these vulnerabilities would positively contribute to the ongoing advancement of the movement.0292Cabanas, Edgar y González-Lamas, Jara .
