However, their performance is far from optimal due to the high non-linearity of the biological and changing processes involved. Therefore, more advanced control techniques are proposed in the literature (e.g., using artificial intelligence techniques). However, these new control techniques have not been compared to the traditional approaches that are actually being used in real plants. To this end, in this paper, we present a comparison of the PID control configurations currently applied to control the dissolved oxygen concentration (in the active sludge process) against a reinforcement learning agent. Our results show that it is possible to have a very competitive operating cost budget when these innovative techniques are applied.0282Hernández-del-Olmo, Félix, Gaudioso, Elena, Duro, Natividad, Dormido, Raquel y Gorrotxategi, Mikel . However, integrating these disparate data sources has historically posed a significant challenge, obstructing the unification and comprehensive analysis of collected information. In recent years, knowledge graphs have emerged as a powerful tool to address such integration issues by enabling the consolidation of heterogeneous data sources into a structured, interconnected network of knowledge. In this context, we introduce DemKG, an open-source framework designed to facilitate the construction of a knowledge graph integrating dementia research data, comprising three core components: a KG-builder that integrates diverse domain ontologies and data annotations, an extensions ontology providing necessary terms tailored for dementia research, and a versatile transformation module for incorporating study data. In contrast with other current solutions, our framework provides a stable foundation by leveraging established ontologies and community standards and simplifies study data integration while delivering solid ontology design patterns, broadening its usability. Furthermore, the modular approach of its components enhances flexibility and scalability. We showcase how DemKG might aid and improve multi-modal data investigations through a series of proof-of-concept scenarios focused on relevant Alzheimer’s disease biomarkers.0412Timón-Reina, Santiago, Rincón, Mariano, Martínez Tomás, Rafael, Kirsebom, Bjørn-Eivind y Fladby, Tormod . This model has been trained twice: the first time taking into account the gender of the students, and the second time excluding it. The accuracy of the model that includes gender is 99.2%, while that of the model that excludes gender is 91.1%. We conclude that taking into account gender in training this model can lead to overfitting, due to the under-representation of girls among the students participating in the experiences, making the model less able to identify when a student needs help. We also conclude that avoiding gender bias is a major challenge in research on educational systems for learning computational thinking skills, and that it necessarily involves effective and motivating gender-sensitive instructional design.0302Imbernón Cuadrado, L.E., Manjarrés Riesco, Á. y de la Paz López, Félix . Technology typically used to study the voice can also be applied in a singing lesson, aiming at facilitating students’ awareness of the three subsystems involved in voice production—breathing, oscillatory and resonatory—and their underlying physiological, aerodynamical and acoustical mechanisms. Given the variety of real-time visual feedback tools, this article provides a comprehensive overview of such tools and their current and future pedagogical applications in the voice studio. The rationale for using real-time visual feedback is discussed, including both the theoretical and practical applications of visualizing physiological, aerodynamical and acoustical aspects of voice production. The monitorization of breathing patterns is presented, displaying lung volume as the sum of abdominal and ribcage movements signals. In addition, estimates of subglottal pressure are visually displayed using a subglottal pressure meter to assist with the shaping of musical phrases in singing. As to what concerns vibratory patterns of the vocal folds and phonatory airflow, the use of electroglottography and inverse filters is applied to monitor the phonation types, voice breaks, pitch and intensity range of singers of different music genres. These vocal features, together with intentional voice distortions and intonation adjustments, are also displayed using spectrographs. As the voice is invisible to the eye, the use of real-time visual feedback is proposed as a key pedagogical approach in current and future singing lessons. The use of such an approach corroborates the current trend of developing evidence-based practices in voice education.0632Filipa M.B., Lã y Fiuza, Mauro B. . These highly complex software solutions must cover the high variability of use cases that might appear in traffic conditions, especially when involving scenarios with dynamic obstacles. Reinforcement learning algorithms are seen as a powerful tool in autonomous driving scenarios since the complexity of the algorithm is automatically learned by trial and error with the help of simple reward functions. This paper proposes a methodology to properly define simple reward functions and come up automatically with a complex and successful autonomous driving policy. The proposed methodology has no motion planning module so that the computational power can be limited like in the reactive robotic paradigm. Reactions are learned based on the maximization of the cumulative reward obtained during the learning process. Since the motion is based on the cumulative reward, the proposed algorithm is not bound to any embedded model of the robot and is not being affected by uncertainties of these models or estimators, making it possible to generate trajectories with the consideration of non-holonomic constrains. This paper explains the proposed methodology and discusses the setup of experiments and the results for the validation of the methodology in scenarios with dynamic obstacles. A comparison between the reinforcement learning algorithm and state-of-the-art approaches is also carried out to highlight how the methodology proposed outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms.0272Pintos Gómez de las Heras, Borja, Martínez Tomás, Rafael y Cuadra Troncoso, José Manuel . Besides, the implementation of production and consumption models based on the circular economy is becoming more and more important, where the repair and, for this purpose, the use of recyclable materials, is crucial. In this context, the analysis of a repair process is carried out by re-drilling Mg-Al-Mg multimaterial components using experimental design (DoE) based on Taguchi methodology, an analysis of variance (ANOVA) and descriptive statistics. The study concludes which are the significant factors and interactions of the process, comparing the results with previous similar studies, and establishing bases to determine the optimum thicknesses of hybrid magnesium-based component plates of drilled parts in the aeronautical industry, guaranteeing surface roughness requirements in repair and maintenance operations throughout their lifetime.0272Blanco, David, Rubio, Eva María, Sáenz de Pipaón, José Manuel y Marín, Marta M. . These systems are machines with a high capacity for communication, sensing and self-diagnosis, although they are susceptible to failures, breakdowns and a loss of reliability. The amount of data they provide as a productive system and, individually, as a machine can be treated to improve customized maintenance plans. The objective of this work, with an operational scope, is to collect and exploit the knowledge acquired in the industrial plant on failures and breakdowns based on its historical data. The acquisition of the aforementioned data is channeled through the human intellectual capital of the work groups formed for this purpose. Once this knowledge is acquired and available in a worksheet format according to the Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) methodology, it is implemented using Case-Based Reasoning algorithms in a Java application developed for this purpose to carry out the process of RCM, accessing a base of similar cases that can be adapted. This operational definition allows for the control of the maintenance function of an industrial plant in the short term, with a weekly horizon, to design a maintenance plan adjusted to the reality of the plant in its current operating context, which may differ greatly from the originally projected plan or from any other plan caused by new production requirements. This new plan designed as such will apply changes to the equipment, which make up the production system, as a consequence of the adaptation to the changing market demand. As a result, a computer application has been designed, implemented and validated that allows, through the incorporation of RCM cases already successfully carried out on the productive system of the plant, for the development of a customized maintenance plan through an assistant, which, in a conductive way, guides the plant maintenance engineer through their design process, minimizing human error and design time and leveraging existing intellectual capital.0332Rodríguez-Padial, Néstor, Marín, Marta M. y Domingo, Rosario . It is known that the mechanical properties of a film depend on the process parameters established, but little is known concerning how they affect one another, even more so due to the variety of polyethylene materials and processing techniques. This study focuses on establishing a proper correspondence of important mechanical properties like the dart impact, tensile strength at break, and elongation at break with commonly used process parameters like the blow-up ratio, take-up ratio, thickness reduction, and neck height, for a high-density polyethylene hexene copolymer and a linear low-density polyethylene butene copolymer blend film. Because this polyethylene mixture is an anisotropic material, interesting R2 values equal to or higher than 0.90 were found: a BUR with elongation at break and tensile strength at break in the MD and TD, a TUR with elongation at break in the MD and tensile strength at break in the MD and TD, and a TR with elongation at break and tensile strength at break in the MD. Also, a relationship between the dart impact and both the neck height and thickness were found.0242Francisco Cuesta, Camacho, Ana María y Rubio, Eva María . The fact it has been preserved until now can be considered as fortunate since both anthropogenic and natural factors can cause its disappearance or deterioration. This is the reason why rock art needs special conservation and protection measures. The emergence of digital technologies has made a wide range of tools and programs available to the community for a more comprehensive documentation of rock art in both 2D and 3D. This paper shows a workflow that makes use of visible and near-infrared hyperspectral technology to manage, monitor and preserve this appreciated cultural heritage.
