This article is focused on Lola Massieu’s
paintings and her works stylistic evolution.
Born in Gran Canaria she started her
career painting traditional themes as still
life or portrait in oils fluctuating between
impressionist and expressionist
languages. This was in the forties but
soon, little by little, her works entered a
quest to summarize objects forms which
led her to informal compositions in the
sixties and seventies. Never deserting her
passion to look at new ways of painting,
after decades of experience, she achieved
a full creative freedom to lead her instincts
and yearnings for communication.05112Cuétara San Luis, Isabel de la .
Romanticism is the principal inspiration of
the painter, engraver, illustrator and
scenographer José Hernández. Elements
as ruins, passage of time, death,
melancholy, the night or existential
anguish compose his artist imaginary.
Because of the première of Don Juan
Tenorio in the 2000, directed by Eduardo
Vasco for the National Classical Theatre
Company, José Hernández designed a
scenography which translates the
language of his paintings to the theater, in
the staging of which is considered the
quintessential spanish romantic drama.
Following the methodology of the theater
semiotics, which defines ‘theater’ as the
union of text and spectacle, the following
pages revise the painted curtains used in
the different parts of the drama, a resource
that has become a constant in his stage
designs and a perfect reflection of the
union of scenography and dramatic text.07292Nieto Yusta, Olivia .
Luis Paret y Alcázar painted a set of
harbours of the Cantabric Coast in the
north of Spain. Paret created this set of
views to satisfy the commission of Carlos
III, king of Spain.
The aim of this work is to go deeply into
this painter’s live, so that we can
understand in a better way his art.
Although the studies already done by
several art historians, there are still a lot of
unknown factors about his live and work.
We should ask ourselves why he fell in the
forgetfulness after being one of the rising
painters at his time.05182Castilla Albisu, María .
We analyze the role played by the Ateneo
de Santander of the twenties, its role as a
meeting place, gallery of political opinion,
cultural and artistic renewal, promoter of
the avant-garde artistic and literary. We
study some of the ideological and cultural
debates developed, the reception of the
ultraism (Gerardo Diego, 1919),
discussions on the new paint, on
Unamuno exile (1924), the intellectual
involment of the new generation of 27, or
disputes on Dictatorship, also present in
other ateneos. Disagreements, but also
meetings: the positive relationship with the
Sociedad Menendez Pelayo and
intellectual and artistic collaboration
between ateneos of Santander and
Bilbao. The Ateneo is the protagonist of the
first renewal movements of the arts.
Interest in renewing the forms, among
writers and artists, but not ideological or
political commitments, which appear only
timidly, at the end of the Dictatorship. We
also studied the more ideologically
committed literature and its
manifestations.06132de la Hoz Regules, Jerónimo .
